I don't think you can clearly explain your reasoning because it is all over the place.

Let's break this down:

You called Krem a woman, even though you said that you called your friends by their preferred gender. Reproductive organs do not define a persons gender, as I said before, there are women who don't have vagina's or wombs. They are still women.

Krem lives in a society where gender reassignment surgery or magic doesn't exist, so it is not possible for Krem to do what you want him to do for you to define him as a man.

Even if he was able to do that, he would still have an XX chromosome - which you said would make him still a woman.

You claim that it is psychotic to believe that genitals don't define a persons gender, yet there are many people with multiple genitalia or who are born without the genitals that you claim define their gender. Your definition of gender excludes those people - whats logical about that?

You quote a law from California which is not relevant for a number a reasons

  1. California is not the world, in Ireland you can get your gender changed on documents without going through surgery.
  2. Laws do not necessarily keep up with modern scientific thinking, it's still illegal to be gay in some counties.
  3. Many transsexuals protest laws that require them to have surgery before they can officially change their gender.

You seem to be confused on many scientific principles and on the most current research on gender.

I would also add that California laws are not recognized in Thedas.

at first, i thought it unusual that krem wouldn't want to fully transition if it were possible with magic, but considering it's thedas, where magic is widely feared and krem is from tevinter, where blood magic is used liberally, i don't blame him at all for not wanting to go the magic route.  as long as he's happy with his current lifestyle, what does it matter?  everyone is different.

You know, it strikes me as odd that we are even debating this. You (Lord Raijin) are talking about the interpretation of transsexuals in a video game created by a team of talented and imaginative people and how Krem is not really transsexual because he still has woman parts and people in the real world may have different opinions. I'm curious as to why that is such a big deal in a story where people can SET THINGS ON FIRE WITH THEIR MINDS. It's a bit absurd to get mired in something that is so inconsequential to the game and to you personally- as you said you are not a transsexual and can thus have no true personal feelings of misrepresentation on the subject. Don't you think?

Also, the game does not represent all transsexuals, just Krem.

OP, you do realize that you DON'T speak for all transgender people, right? DG (and fellow writers) in that tumblr you posted was being praised and thanked for the portrayal of Krem. So before you run at the mouth (or keyboard as it were,) try to consider that you are actually insulting the real person who said they identified with Krem in that very posting.

It's okay there is a meme pic of what you feel like, OP.

Spoiler

LOL I had to actually go away from the computer for the laughter over this.

You called Krem a woman, even though you said that you called your friends by their preferred gender.

He didn't say he calls his friends by their preferred gender actually, but by 'the proper gender'. Which, according to him is related to whether the said friends have "boobs and vaginas".

He has yet to clarify what exactly he means by the "proper gender" in this context.

But frankly, this is such concentrated ignorance and/or trolling, it's probably best left alone as a waste of everyone's time. He's convinced his limited knowledge of "biology 101" gives him all the answers, and it doesn't seem to occur to him even biology extends beyond the "101", never mind all the other factors.

Sounds like an awful lot of judgmental stuff about a likable character.

BioWare doesn't have to create characters to your exacting specifications in their fictional world.

It's been quite the interesting display of narrow mindedness and ignorance. Highly entertaining and frustrating all at the same time.

Krem is awesome. Who cares, either way?

I mean, I know I could probably do with getting a life but... this sort of sh*t just takes it above and beyond it.

Well this is at least new.

Discussion about true and not-so-true transgenders in a videogame that has so many flaws, anyone?

Many flaws? yes!

I pre-ordered this Biodegradabaleware game because:

1. Dragon Age Lore

2. Number 3 game in Dragon Age Lore

3. A Dragon Age game "..made by PC gamers for PC gamers..."

4. A Dragon Age game about civil war, mage and templar conflict, Demons entering Thedas at will.

I did not buy this game for a transgender  characters' personal problems. Hell, I never used Krem except to get Bull.

This comes as a twist.

Ahh.. personal problems?

He is the most easy going, laid back, no-baggage character going.  That's why he has my utmost respect.

Well you missed in parts 3 and 4. EAware couldn't fail the first two just by the accident, so things could be worse...

(to C0uncil0rTev0s) Well, there is page 4, post 83 if you are curious...

To sum it up: we presented arguments why judging gender by physical appearance and voice alone is not the wisest before we ventured into the area of law and then finally I came to the conclusion that I had forgot finishing playing Alpha Sapphire.

If my eyes sees boobs and hears a womens voice... I will present that person with the proper pronouns.

This statement relies heavily on your definition of "proper".

I doubt you would be able to defend the one you are using

I too play video games to escape from reality (I have a highly stressful RL), However Bioware and their writers are trying to westernized dragon age series by bringing real life issues into the game, and that I was forced to called Krem a guy when I had no other option to voice my disapproval. I was forced to accept it as it is, and go on. I thought my choice and decisions matters? Isn't that what they've been bragging about all this time?

I play video games to expand my imagination... no matter how bizarre or how offensive it is.

I'm curious as to what end you would really prefer this though. If Krem is to be a convincing character, he would have to be deeply insulted and probably not care to speak to you again, or at least not in a positive tone, should you choose to deny his gender and express your disapproval, and of course gaining Bull's Great Disapproval, and possibly call the Inquisitor an a-hole for saying it (and of course he'd be right). Would you then complain that you can't kick the entire Chargers out of Skyhold because of this?

I can sort of understand the wish to let pettiness reign in-game, but I can't say that the arguments for it are particularly compelling.

Seems like a pretty small anthill to me.

Genitals is what gives us our own unique identification. Either you're a man or a woman. If you have boobs and a vagina... you're a woman... if you have a penis then biologically speaking you're a man. It's biology 101.  Surgeries and hormonal replacements can help you to disturbed this pattern, and lead you to the proper road.

Yep, Maevaris Tilani. And she is a male to female transsexual. I don't think she used magic for sex changing either.

http://dragonage.wik...Maevaris_Tilani

I don't believe we have any idea what magic (if any) she's tried in order to modify her own body.

Yes Maevaris Tilani. She is a Magister, so you'd think if anyone would try and use Blood Magic to change their body it would be her, but she hasn't.

Edit: Ninja'd

omg! she's a cutie!

PUT HER IN THE NEXT GAME PLEASE BIOWARE

Your sex/gender is determined by the size of your reproductive cells

actually we are all girls we start out as eggs xx until a sperm changes that if it does.

sex is biological because your DNA will be xx or xy most of the time

gender is societal

anyway.

Mae is super cutie.

10/10 need her in the next game
