So if Bioware gave you a chance to shape the next DA game (4) with 3 Objectives...

1 Story

2 Locations

3 Characters

What would you do?

You can of course choose to ignore this thread but I thought it might be interesting to see what you would come up with. :)

1 I have no input whatsoever on story. I'm happy to let the devs take me wherever they will as far as that's concerned.

My primary story goal for Thedas was met with DAI regarding the mage/templar issue. I wanted that (somewhat) resolved after having an entire game and a novel that talked about it in a big way. What happens after DAI is anyone's guess, but I was satisfied with the resolution we got in this game.

I wouldn't mind another Blight.

2 I'd really like to see Tevinter. Fenris and Dorian are my two favorite characters in the entire DA series and they, in addition to the tiny glimpse we got in the comics, have really made me want to go there and see it for myself. The architecture and style I expect to be as extravagant as Orlais, but with a different flare that will be unique to a culture that not only borrowed heavily from the elves and has also existed for thousands of years.

Unfortunately, I don't really have an interest in the Tevinter/Qunari conflict which I suspect would be a key feature in any sort of Tevinter story we're expected to play through.

3 I don't have any input on characters either. I was/am extremely fond of certain characters from DAO and DA2 and I stupidly worried that I might not like anyone in DAI. I've learned my lesson and am happy to leave all aspects of character creation to the devs and not think about it until I actually play the game.

1 Story: Follow up on whatever Solas is working on and the mystery about everyone disappearing towards the west (warden, Hawke)

2 Locations: Tevinter + Anderfels

3 Characters: cameo's in the form of the warden companion of DA:I, Dorian (if going to Tevinter). Further hopefully a dwarven companion and LI option

Story - No idea. Out of all of the current plot threads we have going I'd like Solas to be followed up on, as well as the dwarves and their ancient history (primeval thaig), talking darkspawn and the Grey Wardens at Weisshaupt.

Location - Anywhere is fine really, although I'd like somewhere a bit more contained like DA:O than DA:I.

Characters - Again, I trust Bioware. As long as Sera isn't a recurring character. Also need more dwarves.

Not related to the above, but I'd like the next one to be slightly less open-world/free roaming. I think that there has to be a balance between free world and story, and sometimes games go too far the one way and the other one suffers. Skyrim for example, is one of the best open world games on the market in terms of freedom and content, but the storyline suffers. DA:I was too open world for me, and by the time I got near the end game I had no motivation to actually finish the story because I had spent so much time doing crappy side quests that I had gotten bored.

It's too soon for another blight, well a proper blight. But say someone went and poked the darkspawn first and they came poking back, in greater numbers than normal, that wouldn't be a bad side threat to what ever major event is happening.

Location wise, everyone things we're heading North, off to the tropics. And maybe that'd be cool, maybe see Par Vollen even if it is just its coast line in the distance. But really, anywhere that's interesting, and pretty much anywhere can be made to be interesting.

As for characters: Bianca as our loveable (non-romancable) Rogue, a male Mage from Starkhaven (who use to be tranquil but that's only revealed through his personal quest) (straight romance, but he flirts awfully with everyone), Female Tiventer Knight, (gay romance), a non romancable (or maybe bi like Bull) qunari saarebas, Elf warrior (bi romance) (elf warriors seem rather slim amoung past DA companions as there has only been one i can think of). Female human rogue, straight romance. No dwarf romance as one must keep tradition alive.
I'd cut down the number of companions, as I think DA:I had too many. With less companions it'd allow the writers to flesh the ones they do have out better and more importantly I feel, flesh out the villains. DA4 needs a good villain, some one who annoys and teases you, some one that makes you want to grab them by the scruff of their neck and kick their teeth in. Someone with genuine threat.

If I could shape DA4, I'd give all power to the writers.. Not marketing, not fans, not EA, not even the rest of the development team..lol..no one. I just want to see what they do on their own.

What's a dumbledore? And why would it have a job?
That really just seems like a poorly ill thought out story.

When I was just getting into the series, I childishly and foolishly imagined a story (seriously, it's like a six year old story) where the sixth Archdemon awakened but he was smart. He stayed underground until he could find the seventh and last Archdemon but kept him in reserve. I also remember having a Lightspawn character, one of the Architect's Disciples, in there somewhere who wore runes and enchantments that limited his spread of the Blight so he could help people.

I was still caught up on Wardens and crap at the time.

1 Story

I'd love if the story went more in DA2's direction than DAO's and DAI's. I don't want generic story of hero who has to kill this certain evil was it big dragon or evil magister.

2 Locations

I'm not sure if open world like DAI's is needed, but maybe world would be less restricted than DAO's and especially less than DA2's. I'd hope that the location would be in Nevarra, Rivain or Antiva.

3 Characters

I think we need more dwarf and qunari companions and less humans, hopefully as LI's as well. I'd love having Tal-Vashoth qunari companion, maybe even escaped Sareebas. Party banter like always is huge thing so I hope that would be entertaining, but not annoying like in DA2 with Fenris & Anders & Merrill.

Main character of the story needs to be someone whose race (and naturally also gender) you can pick. No anymore these human only games thanks. Also I'd love if the other races would be taken accord as much as human and not everything in game would be default human (like Morrigan explaining Dalish elf elven lore shouldn't not happen).

Firstly, we've had Cole already, so a daemon companion has been done, we don't really need to see it again,
And Second, it's Choice Spirit.

Story: I would like something similar to DAO or DA2 where the protagonist has to work their way to the top somehow rather than granted fame because of a freak accident. I also want the main quest to be much longer and intricately tied into side quests rather than just plopping random irrelevant side quests in the world.

Location: As far as a home base goes, I don't need my protagonist living in some huge mansion or fortress. The camp in DAO was very intimate, and I liked that. I would like to go north because I think the past 3 games have pretty much exhausted the south. I want to see sprawling cities with wealthy sections and slum quarters (something like Bowerstone from Fable II or the Imperial City from Oblivion comes to mind). And 1-3 big exploration areas that are important to the main quest.

Companions: I'm a bigger fan of the way companions were introduced in Origins than DAI. They helped because they genuinely wanted to, or because helping saved their hides. In DAI it just seemed like everyone was hired on, and I felt a real lack of connection to them as a result. I think fewer companions will be better if it means their backgrounds and quests will be fleshed out more. As far as specific companions go, I'd like to see a completely new set of companions including a female qunari, female/male dwarf (romance-able), and an evil companion.

1. Story

I'd prefer something a bit more limited in scope than DAI. Not because I don't like big, grand tales, but because I feel that DAI needed to be that big to wrap up most of the established conflicts ion the south. Now that we're probably moving north, we should have a more streamlined experience in order to introduce us to what's going on up there. The scale of DA:O would be good, though I would even enjoy something along the lines of DA2 as long as they can execute such a structure more coherently next time.

2. Location

The Anderfels and/or Tevinter seems like the next logical location. I would personally prefer the Anderfels due to the apparent urgency of the situation there and the lack of substantial information on that coutry would allow the writers to go a lot of places.

3. Characters

Though I have my own personal wishlist of companion types I'd like to see, my main desire would be that the companions would join more organically (I don't know if that's the best word to use, but whatever). I agree that in DAI it felt that the companions felt like they were being hired to work for you (literally what happened with Bull), and therefore, unlike in previous games, your personal relationship with them was not in the forefront. It was still there, but it could be ignored.

Story- Definitely set in the midst of Tevinter and the conflict with them and the qunari. Would include a Rivaini port, Seheron and Antivan city that can be visited as hubs (like the first/second Mass Effect).

Characters:

Protagonist- you would be able to select from multiple backgrounds similar to Origins. Your voice is set on your background.

01. Altus (Human Mages)- born to a life of privilege, focuses on political intrigue. Has a better reaction in Tevinter but poor reaction in Seheron/elsewhere. Has a British accent.

02. Tevinter Slave (Elven Warrior/Rogue)- born into slavery/servitude, struggles with being a minority in a culture that persecutes them for being mundane and an elf. Has a British accent (same as Altus). Treated poorly in Tevinter but neutral elsewhere.

03. Antivan Sailor/Rivaini Raider (Human Warrior/Rogue): You lived your life on the high seas as the son/daughter of an esteemed captain. A rivalry gone bad ensures your ship/crew are destroyed and now you must make life as a mercenary. Treated well in Rivain/Antiva and neutral elsewhere. Can choose between a British (same VO as Altus/Slave) or Spanish accent.

04. Kal-Shirok Ambassador (Dwarven Warrior/Rogue): You serve your people either as a soldier (warrior) or scout (rogue) in the dwarven militia. You are tasked with a surface deal and eventually as an ambassador of your people. Treated well in Tevinter/neutral elsewhere. Has an American accent.

05. Ben Hassrath Agent (Qunari of any class): An agent of the Qun who must gather Intel on the surrounding areas. Treated well in Rivain and Seheron by fellow Qunari/hated by Tal Vashoth, hated in Tevinter, tentative in Antiva. Has an American accent (same VO as dwarf).

Characters:

Party Members:

Rivaini Raider- Human Male Warrior: brutal and unforgiving but loyal to his allies. Romanceable to human and elven women.

Antivan Nobleman- Human Male Rogue: a decorated naval captain, suave and charming but very conservative, a one person man. Romanceable to all races/genders.

Dalish First/Apprentice- Elven Male Mage: Once first to his class but was apprehended by slavers and lived several years as a Soporati. Part of an underground railroad movement for Tevinter slaves. Romanceable for males only, any race.

Tal Vashoth Fog Warrior/Mercenary: Qunari Male Warrior: A fog warrior from Seheron. He has no time or patience for fletting sentimentality, very cerebral/spiritual. Only romanceable by female qunari.

Kal Shirok General: Dwarven Female Warrior: A proud, haughty general from the Kal Shirok militia. She's very private and impersonal at first but becomes more open as you befriend her, but still remains guarded. Romanceable to males of any race.

Ben Hassrath Agent: Female Qunari Rogue: a friendly, affable agent of the Ben Hassrath. Similar to Iron Bull in terms of friendliness and openness to others but not loose. Finds herself disagreeing with the Qun many times. Available to any race/gender.

Hedge Mage/Apprentice Seer: Human Female Mage: A spiritual woman in touch with the Fade, has prophetic dreams and visions. Seems to be from another time in terms of demeanor. Female only romance.

Ex Bard: Female Elven Rogue: An ex bard raised in Orlais now working as a professional thief and treasure hunter. Tends to be selfish. Romanceable for any race/gender.

NPCs:
Calpurnia (depends on import)
Dorian
Maevaris Tilani
Iron Bull
Fenris
Tallis

I would like to see follow up with Solas's story which I think is pretty much guaranteed to happen.

As for locations I'd like to see at least a little bit of Tevinter. I don't think it's going to be the center of the next story but who knows.

Honestly I hope DA4 doesn't have a warden protagonist. I like being the Inquisitor I hope that carries onto DA 4 but likely not going to happen.

Story: Eliminate the messiah/hero trope that has been Bioware's rpg formula for far too long.

Characters: Present characters of varied faiths and beliefs. Less Southern Andrastian Chant Girls, please.

Location: Not in the damned south; we get it, you love the White Chantry and you love the south; TELL ANOTHER DAMNED STORY IN ANOTHER DAMNED LOCATION.

1: Solas conquers the golden city using the power stolen from flemeth....now a GOD it takes the inquisitior/hawke and/or the hero of Ferelden to take him down. Yes THREE possible protagonists of your choice. ( involving rescue missions for hawke/whoever was left in the fade in "here lies the abyss if necessary)

2 Ferelden, Orlais, Tevinter, the fade, the golden city

3 EVERYONE WHO IT'S STILL ALIVE (of all of them get equal content....no ME3 BS)
