One of my favorite bits is her relationship with Varric. Despite how much **** they give each other, she does respect him as seen when she complains about how the Chantry has a gotten to the point where a good person like Varric would not step foot in one.

Varric and Cassandra are interesting together. They both rebuff some friendly overtures from the other and they do give each other a lot of crap, so I'm not 100% sure what to think of their relationship -- but in the end, I hope they do get some genuine if occasionally prickly cameraderie going. I agree that what she says about him in that conversation is a good sign that they've reached a better understanding.

If Cassandra was a real person, yes, that would make sense; however, keeping in mind Miranda Raison is a native English speaker, from England, who was told to make up an accent for a VA job, I don't think that explanation holds water.

Her accent sounds like it does because that's the way Raison made it sound, not because Cassandra spent a lot of time in Orlais.

True but one can at least view it as that for in game purposes though accents can be weird given that some American east coast accents are accents that died out in England.

Full agreement as well. Cassandra is probably my favourite Bioware NPC ever now. If you play a believer, she also presents a great role model for an Inquisitor who is hopeful but troubled by the whole Herald-thing: her integrity, willingness to question and in fact insistence on examining herself and her faith instead of claiming to know the Maker's will are all but vital to keep the Herald herself and the Inquisition from falling into self-righteousness and corruption as so many other noble causes and organizations have.

Sure, she can have a short fuse, but she's fair. Give her time and she'll show her willingness to open her mind by listening to and building a good rapport with Solas and Cole, which can get her started on considering entirely new questions like how mortal wars affect the Fade.

Cassandra is awesome.

Which is why I find her statement at the Temple of Mythal odd, where she says she can't understand how someone can "pour such devotion into this nonsense" when looking at the impressive art of the temple. At this point in the story she usually comes across as someone who is well aware of how certain aspects of her own faith must appear to a nonbeliever. It's the only time when one of her statements didn't appear to fit.

Wonderfully put, OP. I wasn't expecting to be a fan of hers before the game came out, what with her staunch devotion to the Chantry and hot temper. However there were so many little occasions over the course of the game where she won me over, she's now probably my favourite character.

When were were plunged into the future at Redcliffe and saw the future Cassandra, I was utterly distraught. None of the other characters have affected me so much during that sequence, but Cassandra. It really struck me how much faith she had in the Inquisition, and in the Inquisitor. It just felt like a really poignant moment.

Her strength and resolve are incredible, but I'd never expected the softer and more idealistic side of her. When she talks about the future she wants for the Chantry, it really makes me want to make her Divine, because it feels both achievable and benevolent. That line about wanting to help people, wanting to 'right past wrongs, but not avenge them', she's so much more wise than I gave her credit for. Her developing relationship with Solas and Cole is wonderful too. Those are two people that you'd expect her to despise, and yet she's always respectful, tries to see their perspective over time. She even tries to make things right with Varric.

Plus there's her hilarious scenes with Varric's book and the card game, giving her an utterly adorable side to love too. She's just such a wonderfully complex character. I'm actually looking forward to playing a male character to see her romance.

I agree. She had a strong friendship with my Andrastian Inquisitor, and I'm looking forward to being her friend next as a believer in the Creators. She's one of my favorite characters, series wide.

I love using Cassandra. She and Sera have the best banter and like each other a lot. Plus if you break up with Cassandra, Sera will ask her if she wants to talk and drink with her.

Cass is awesome, as most of dai characters are.

And i'm grateful for her friendship path.

I am also a friend of Cassandra's.

At the beginning of the game, I wasn't to impressed with the character yet. She seemed like that typical noble holy warrior kinda person (and if anyone may cater to that particular cliche, it's my PC :)). I found her too stern, too rigid and I went on to romance Josephine (another awesome character by the way).

I really had an epiphany with Cassandra when I startled her while she was reading Varric's crappy book. This is a brilliant scene by the way, the animation when she jumps and the VO are just perfect. Anyway, it gave a bit of a much needed humorous note to my dealings with her and showed that she was by no means perfect and that she knew it. She may not like it but she accepts it (as shown when you have Varric give her the second chapter). It made her a much more nuanced character than I first thought.

Then, in the scene that seals her friendship, she completely won me over. Her speech about her, wanting to just be a decent person but not being sure whether or not that is actually the right thing to do was just brilliant and goes to show how she is a strong upstanding and idealistic person who is also flawed, vulnerable and insecure in some ways.

A really deep, developing and well written character in all regards. I am not sure which BW writer is responsible for Cassandra but kudos to them for a job well done.

I am not all the way through the game yet and I am curious as to what may still happen to/with her.

Gaider usually also credits Hepler as well, who started writing her. ::shrugs:: I'd honestly be interested to know who came up with what.

Ah thanks, should have known. He is a great writer. BW can count themselves fortunate to have him for DA.

It's not about faith. It's about art. She doesn't get it.

I'll agree I thought the romance she had with my Eleven non-Andrastian mage was one of the better relationships in any Bioware game. She was steadfast in her faith but accepting of my lack of faith. She could have been an insanely flat character as a religious fanatic but they really did a great job given her a lot of depth and texture.

Cassandra is a solid, reliable character.  She wasn't a dull, moody, bore like Blackwall, and she wasn't there for comic relief like Iron Bull.  She was just rock steady.  She also had a really human side as evidenced by her addiction to Varric's romance serials and the way she behaves from a romance standpoint.

I was skeptical about Cassandra because I remembered her from Dragon Age 2 and her interrogation of Varric, but she proved to be my favorite companion - so much so that I didn't push for her to become the Divine, because I didn't want to lose her for future expansions and adventures.

Cassandra would have made a good Marine.

Cassandra is (IMHO) the most complex character BW has ever done. I echo the sentiments of the friendship path w/ her and the female Quiz. In fact, on my first playthrough she shot my female Inquisitor down in a very powerful scene. (I hadn't locked Sera down at the time). It was powerful because it was so awkward, sad and I felt for Cass afterwards. She came across as being quite broken up about not being able to peruse the relationship. I'm frankly amazed that BW added that scene at all, but it was good.

Where do you think the quote in my sig comes from?  ;)

With high approval, Cassandra says -- after her fight with Varric -- that the Herald is everything she could have hoped for. I just wish I could have told her the feeling is mutual. Cassandra is a truly exceptional character. Sadly, she also doubles as a reminder that you will never find people like her in the real world.  :(

I've met people like Cassandra in the real world. Sadly, they're so abrasive at times they end up driving most people off. As cool as she is in a video game, most people IRL don't want to be around a quick-tempered hyper-competent person who will quickly tell them off when they're not performing up to snuff.

I think you will. It's just that they are usually not confronted with stakes, as high or embroiled in such epic tales as in a DA story, obviously.

People can say what they like about this game, but you cannot deny this game probably has the most diverse and realistic characters to date in any bioware game in my opinion. I'm not saying they're the most popular, but best written yes.
Cassandra is my favorite, she's got the most depth. She's got so many layers. She has the bff side, she has the mom side, funny, flirty, romantic, serious, passionate, idealistic. So much depth, I like characters you learn more about as your story progresses.

She was good, but I liked her more for her abilities. On more than one occasion, Cassandra was the only party member still standing with full health and full guard.
