I've seen queries online about whether the Commander's helmet was scrapped or not. I've also seen some folks mention that he wears it only during the prologue, but I've played through the game three times and it never appears.
Does anyone know if this cool looking helm was restricted to prerelease trailers or whether it glitched for Inquisition?
Maybe helmets has to be on? I've always had them off and never seen it.

Helmets are disabled for cut scenes one way or another, they create visual problem.

Sure, but they always appear in some. Vivienne will always wear her hat when you meet her the first time. Solas always wears a really goofy hat at the Orlesian ball, Cole usually wears his hat in most cutscenes.

Those are all very face-open hats. I suspect they miscalculated with Cullen's.
It's does not seem to appear in-game, which I'm glad for. His overall outfit also looks less golden-shiny than in those early shots. Happy about that.
Whether set to have helmet on or not, the lion helm is not there.
Orlais took back their mascot helmet and told Cullen to go get a dog one for Ferelden.
The lion helm was cut for some reason. Either resources or because they realized it offered absolutely no neck protection. Who knows?
Thanks to all who've spoken up! I was curious and would have liked to have seen him wear the thing just as in the prerelease footage. Changes are always made for a variety of reasons, but in the absence of clarification it seems we will have to manage with our varying degrees of speculation.
I doubt it's in-game. As I recall, the first time it appeared was in one of the early trailers, before Cullen was confirmed as being in Inquisition. Then we saw it again when he was revealed. I think that was its last appearance, but I could be wrong.
Yeah, I guess they were just trying to 'hide' that it was Cullen? Sort of seems like sitting out in the open, covering your eyes with your hands to 'hide' during hide-and-seek, doesn't it? I think it did make an appearance or two after he was confirmed, though, because he's wearing it in 'The Enemy of Thedas' trailer half the time. If I recall correctly, that was the first time we heard him speak in a trailer, though I can't remember when he was officially confirmed as being in the game.
That's not the only thing they seem to have done to Cullen's wardrobe for 'fun/speculation' purposes though. In one of the twitchstreams, he was wearing a--I don't know the word for it, so I apologise for that--'templar skirt thing' that matched his 'cloak/sash-thing' with the sword of mercy in crimson/god and I haven't heard anything about that or figured out how to get it to pop up in my game yet either.

They should've used a full-closed helmet then. Or a bucket. Take your pick.

I nearly had a stroke when I saw that hat on Solas. IT FRICKIN CLIPS THROUGH HIS NOSE ARGHGHGHHG!!!! Complaints about animation/model quality aside, nope OP never seen Cullen's helmet. It may be modded into the game at some point if you really want it.
Hopefully they bring back that helmet for the Inquisitor in one of the DLC. That thing was boss.
It kind of looked like Alexander the Great's helm.
