What? They're rebooting the reboot? The reboot was crap though, surely since reboots are crap this is only going to make it twice as bad. And found footage? Screw that, I'm going to stick with the old films. And Jason X was ok. I still don't see why they couldn't just continue from a point before he's captured in the beginning of Jason X.
If the game is multiplayer though, kills my interest.
This post is going to be all over the place and is going to be unsourced because everything is something that I read all over the net at different periods of time over the years and I have no idea where to even begin to go to find sources for it. I'm just giving you a heads up, because I don't really see a way to connect all of my thoughts in this post together in a natural way.
At one point there was talk about making a film called 'The Revenge of Tommy Jarvis' where Jason and Tommy Jarvis would duke it out one last time, but it never went through because it was decided that only the Hardcore fans would know who Tommy was.
I wholeheartedly agree with you, they need to go back to the 1980's style Jason and just continue off of Freddy vs. Jason (the final entry on the timeline before Jason X takes place).
The creator of the franchise, Sean Cunningham, said something about a Freddy vs. Jason 2 being plausible and thinks that it'll happen in a couple of years in an attempt to make both franchises relevant again. I don't know though. I think a Freddy vs. Jason 2 would only be worth watching if they had Robert Englund play Freddy, I refuse to watch the remake/reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street because he isn't Freddy in it.
If Jason X hadn't bombed they had plans for another one. The plan for Jason X2 was to have Uber Jason killing teens on Earth 2 before the government sent him back in time to fight the 1980's version. The Government's thought was that if Uber Jason killed 1980's Jason then Uber Jason couldn't exist (they dropped the ball here, should have sent him back to the time of dinosaurs and opened the door for a Jurassic Park crossover). The two would have fought each other, however, 1980's Jason ends up killing Uber Jason against all odds, the film would have ended with the Military capturing the severely weakened Jason, chaining him up and putting him in the position that he was in at the start of Jason X.
Regardless, I hope they do something special since this is the 13th entry in the franchise.

I've also got some rejected Freddy vs. Jason scripts saved in my favorites on my computer that I can send you the links to, if you are interested (no downloading of anything required). They are all pretty terrible to tell you the truth, the writers either don't understand Jason or Freddy.
