Even if the attack is predictable, it's still bogus. In an animation of almost any kind when you see the smoke? Too bad, you're probably dead. Even if it's a regular attack and you cancel it, it's still not fast enough. And if two teammates are ever down at once, well, good luck reviving them both without someone else getting telekilled, or without him coming up under you just as you finish a revive and taking both of you down. And once terrors get involved in the chain knockdowns, it's basically like fighting geth, but worse.

 

Sure, you could bring a lego/templar to help mitigate, but does that mean you're just going to always play one of those two classes just in case you get demons? You could also bring an evade ability/cc break on all your characters, but again, that would mean you're changing how you play just because there's a chance you might get demons. It would also mean you're potentially replacing another skill that could be useful in more situations. The damage on the attack needs to be reduced and the panic duration needs to be reduced. It's silly that one attack (provided you survive the initial hit) basically means you're going be CC'd 3 times in very quick succesion.

Demon commander is pretty easy, but needs team coordination.

Pugs lack team coordination.  

 

There is a bunch of effective ways to kill DC, easiest being just have a templar/legionnaire take the hits with shield wall and payback strike.  Inevitably in a pug game though someone is going to stand by the tank who keeps getting the DC attacks (seems like a smart idea, right?), go down, and then everyone else acts like a chicken with its head cut off.

No, I do not.

I have never actually SEEN an archer one shot my Hunter on perilous let alone the lesser difficulties and I solo perilous daily. If you're getting one-shot then that's a bug and should be fixed. Shadows and Stalkers are easily avoided but you have to pay attention. I can definitely understand a desire for a nerf on Shadow's uber backstab at least from a melee perspective.

I would argue that Wraiths, not archers, need a nerf on Perilous. Or at least a debugging. The fact they can spawn BEHIND you is no end of annoying.

Furthermore, saying there are abilities that counter said one-shot is counter intuitive to good game design. One should not be REQUIRED to take an ability out of fear of ONE MOB. Not even a group or class of mobs. One actual unique mob.

That's ridiculous reasoning. There's literally no excuse for one-shot mechanics. It's lazy design. There are countless other alternatives to making any given encounter or mob more difficult without resorting to one-shot cheese.

I agree that DC needs a nerf.

Nothing, I repeat NOTHING, in ANY game should EVER one shot kill a player. Death from heights or dangerous terrain, ok, I get that. Death from being tagged by a difficult to maneuver and/or dodge mechanic is righteously stupid. That's not the sort of difficulty people crave.


I guess you weren't much of a fan of ME3 Banshees and Phantoms.

I don't know about everyone else, but I use Shield Wall, Payback Strike, Fade Step/Cloak, Evade, Stealth all in everyday use, not just for the DC.

That's not what I'm saying.

I'm saying, if you're SOLE rebuttal to DC is "lrn2play use stealth" then your argument, and in turn the design, is flawed.

The attack is completely predictable. 

 

It is very, very lag sensitive. I have much better time avoiding DC when hosting.

 

Also:

1. Spirit resistance pieces of gear greatly help.

2. Spirit tonic is good.

3. If you know you can get hit, OHK can be partially mitigated by standing on some small elevation or stairs. You might even avoid the panic sometimes for at least long enough to run away by hopping or using an ability.

I once fade stepped immediately after seeing the puff of smoke and was downed by him once the animation was finished despite him popping up where I was before I blinked away.

Normal shot won't OHKO
Problem is 7 archers and half will pull a full draw

If you do this though could you also post your armor and weapons including your promotion level

If I had 30 Con, which I don't, it wouldn't count anyway since you're saying it OHK's Legionaires with FULL guard on top of FULL HP. A Hunter with 30 Con doesn't stand a chance. I doubt a Hunter with 80 con would stand a chance.

Lots of people giving tips. Which is good. But it merely mitigates the fact that DC is a bad design and no fun to play against.

 

Once I learned his skillset I began wondering what bullcrap they want to feed us in the next Mass Effect. Orbital dropped Geth Ultra, Master of Lag? AoE(!!!) Sync-killing out of the Nowhere? Equipped which stun/stasis fields (which deal damage over time)?

 

I'm not really a masochist.

Banshees will be kept as an enemy and now have the justicar's biotic bubble that will prime and slow you and then can be detonated with their warp ball/biotic shield purge.

They'd need to buff her teleport if she is to contend with the DC.

I will agree that the Demon Commander does need to be redesigned, BUT...

 

...any shield warrior that knows how to fight him can solo the guy as long as his team takes care of the adds. If you do a 180 to shield block his rising attack it will generate enough guard for you to tank at least two of his strikes while you deal counter hits. it's more challenging with out a shield warrior. I couldn't tell you what to do if you just had a Katari or a Reaver...or no warrior at all. Still, I have been in the no warrior situation and was still able to beat him. It was a pain, though, and still think he needs to spam his rising attack far less.

I like to kite him with my hunter, ive gotten to know the timing pretty well so I can kill him after about 3 ground teleporty smack things. Now if only the rest of the team could actually kill stuff....
