I am a 2HW and the best I have so far at LV 17 is Superior Battlemaster Coat. 257 Armor rating. I got it randomly not farming. What is the best armor, as it looks like my Champion is wearing a long trench coat, not armor?

Well technically the Superior Battlemaster "series" of Armor, Mail, and Coat are the best. Mail is the only clear "armor" of the lot. With mail legs and arms added it looks okay. Templar and Legion of the Dead armors, human and dwarf exclusive respectively, are more or less just as good albeit with no attachment slots for arms and legs (more base materials in secondary slots to compensate though). They both look like armor of the nature you probably want. If armor rating is less of a concern than appearance there is also Grey Warden Warrior armor in tier 2. Decent armor rating, nice appearance. In the same line of though for elves there is the Dalish Warrior Armor; decent but not as good as the tier 3 armors.

Where are the schematics at? Hissing wastes? I am currently running around Emprise Du Lion getting chests. Sadly though no Masterwork Schems. Just a bunch of plain Tier 3 daggers and longsword handles. I want 2 H Weapons and accessories and Heavy Armor. Ain't happening tho.

The superior and regular battlemaster armor schematic -can- be found at the hissing wastes vendor but even though it says "armor" it still looks like a glorified trenchcoat.
As Paladin Ryan said before, the mail versions are pretty much the only ones that actually look like armor instead of coats. And unfortunately, most of them are random drops from Tier 3 chests.

Best armor for 2H:
- Superior Battlemaster Armor http://dragonage3.wi...Armor Schematic
combined with:
- Battlemaster Armor Arms http://dragonage3.wi... Arms Schematic
- Battlemaster Armor Legs http://dragonage3.wi... Legs Schematic
All obtainable at the Canyon Market - Hissing Wastes. The Armor needs Short List Perk.
But it has only chain mail parts in it, with lots of leather and cloth. Stats-wise it is the armor to go with, optical I choose the Legion of the Dead Armor which requires a dwarf warrior.
