Vivienne's Gift of friendship?

I had a peculiar conversation with Vivienne today.

She was apparently showing Skyhold to some friends. These asked if they were able to meet the Inquisitor. Vivienne approved and she called on the Inquisitor, and everyone exchanged pleasantries.

Vivienne asked to be excused and turned towards the Inquisitor:

Vivienne:
"But enough of this talk. I have something for you. I commisioned this ring from the formari - the greatest enchanters in all Thedas - for you."

The Inquisitor:
"This is a generous gift. Thank you, Vivienne." (Viivienne slightly approves)

Vivienne:
"Once it was customary for the circles to craft enchantments for their staunchest friends and allies. And you have been both."

Now I am puzzled. I did not receive any ring from her. My Inventory did not show this. What happened here?

Does anyone have a clue?

Never got the scene but I'm guessing it doesn't show up on purpose. It's a sentimental value thing. Selling it would be a dick move and keeping it would be a waste of space, when you get something better.

Sorry to disappoint you, but my Inquisitor is not an elf. She is human.

Hmm... Then I probably already had a similar ring, and the inventory didn't register it?

On the other hand such an approval from Vivienne should be the better part of it all, right? Who cares about a ring when Vivienne approve of you? That is a serious matter. :D

I can't say to be honest.

Things that should make her approve of me:
1. I did her personal quest "Favors for the First Enchanter".
2. I did say I will be 'a servant of faith' when made Inquisitor.

Things that should make her disapprove of me:

1. I allowed Cole to stay.
2. I allied with the mages.

3. I did NOT support Gaspard but Celine.

I still haven't done 'Here Lies The Abyss'. So, her approval must come from something else.

I remember she mentioned how nicely I have chosen the Orlais decor for Skyhold, and I replied that she inspired me. Maybe that softened her?

Aahh, I know: She is crazy about my Chanel No. 6

I think Vivienne is a tricky person. But I kind of like her now. I couldn't stand her in my first two playthrough. This time I bring her along all the time. As Knight Enchanter she REALLY kicks some serious butt.

Lol, I've done plenty things for her, but not that particular quest,(though I also remember her asking me that too). Maybe this is it.

Crap. This thread just made me realize taking an enchanted ring from Viv might not be the best idea.

Vivienne is a conniving ******. What she actually does there - she's trying to butter you over to make her Divine. Even her two guests were invited to further her goal - go and talk with Josephine about that, she's onto them. I admire her attempts at manipulating me, but I'm not buying it. Sorry, Viv, I dislike being used, so you can plot all you want, it ain't gonna happen   :P

The only decent ring I can remember was Morrigan's gift - it had decent perks, actually allowed her to track you if you were in trouble and was later mentioned quite alot if you kept it in Witch Hunt DLC.

This is a cool scene.

As for the ring, I assume it falls under the same header as the dragon hilted sword of the Inquisition that your advisors present to you upon your promotion to the office which then disappears right after the cutscene.

Edit:  Aramintai, I suggest the Lady of Pain for Divin- *flayed alive*

You must admit Vivienne is a major source for amusement?
To hear her snobbish egoistic snake biting comment during the field work is worth a lot?

I frequently roll on the floor when she's in the party, thinking: Where did this demon emerge from?

It's a ceromonial sword. You still it use it to chop off peoples head.

The ring is just Viv playing The Game. But come on, taking an enchanted ring from Viv...yeah, you do that then in a hundred years your a Vivwraith chasing midgets in the forest.

The scene happens after the wyvern heart scene, and Vi introduces you to the duke's sister and son.

And no ring showed up in my inventory so I believe it's bugged.

As much as I love Viv, it's hard to see anything she does coming without a caveat. I think she honestly does mean well; what I interpret as, is a woman who knows what she wants, especially if it involves things she's passionate about. She perhaps sees these opportunities as a win-win situation;

Spoiler

In short, she's genuine, but uncompromising; she'll never willingly do something that hinders or harms her chances at achieving her goals.

That's clearly not an elf. You can tell by the body. Elves look like they've been deprived of food for 6 months.

It's amazing to me how one-dimensional people think Vivienne is.  I can't tell if it's because they are letting their dislike of her personality cloud their judgment or if they just can't imagine that she actually has other layers beyond just "The Game".

I've had that scene and it is very, very clear to me that Vivienne is being genuine when she presents this gift to you.  She views you as a true ally and friend.  All masterful players of The Game need allies.  Will she use our friendship to further her position in life?  Absolutely.  Does that mean that the friendship is somehow lessened?  Absolutely not.

The people who think that this is a disingenuous gesture are probably those who think that she never cared for Bastien too.  I can understand people finding her character to be off-putting.  It's disappointing to see that so many people fail to see how complex and beautifully written her character is.

I never got the ring.

Vivienne  lied to me too.

I also had the same thing going on with the Sutherland Company , they were talking about giving me something , they went "Here you go , Inquisitor" Everyone was happy.

And I got nothing.

The gift is a lie.
