Nah, it's not nearly that high. More like 45.
It's 40 at default.

I couldn't disagree more with that. I thought the human noble background in DA:O was the best of the lot, because it was the background most tied in with the main plot and two of the game's antagonists. (Howe & Loghain)
One could argue that Dalish was the best background because he/she actually came into contact with Darkspawn and the taint, the real bad of the game.
Everyone's got an opinion though. I know most people, because they are human in real life, want to play humans in game. I am simply bored by it. I know the human nob story and how it will play out before the first line of dialogue is spoken.

The Dalish enounters darkspawn and the Blight earlier, but doesn't have any extra motivation to combat it compared to other Wardens. The human noble Warden however is more invested in the future of Ferelden than the other Wardens, since (except for the City Elf) he or she is the only one of the bunch that is actually a citizen of that nation. Also the future of the kingdom directly impacts the future of his/her family, whose downfall Howe & Loghain were responsible for.
I always have a backstory for my rpg characters.
I think in DAI it depends on the type of noble backstory you want. Even given Bioware's description, I found a way to make one of noble's have a rough life.
"My female mage is one of the most depressed characters I have ever played. She did have that pampered life in the Ostwick circle. She loved her circle, enchanters and friends. Even had a crush on one of the templars.
Then life took a turn for the worse and never got better. First, her Templar father died. That shook her faith in Andraste and the maker. After months of hearing rumors of rebellion, one horrible night, the templars started killing mages in her circle. Her templar crush lost his life saving her and her mage lover. She saw a fellow mage kill her mentor, someone who was like a mother.
She ran with others and hid from the carnage. Her and her mage lover were to be married that year. He had no destructive magic skills only restorative/healing. He was the kindest, gentlest man she ever knew. One horrible day when they were out scrounging for food, a group of rebel mages attacked them. She killed the rebels but he was mortally wounded. He later died in her arms. His last words were "promise me you will live." So she has spent the last part of the year in deep despair - hating both templars and mages. Hating the chantry for failing all, for being liars (she no longer believes in the maker or bride of the maker). The only reason she had not committed suicide was because she promised her lover she would live. But it is not much of a life. Hungry and cold all the time. Lonely because she is afraid to love again - to have any meaningful relationship with anyone again.
She is asked to go to conclave with a few others in the hope that her nobility will sway the rebels or templars that have not lost their minds. Then things get really bad. dun dun dun. The game begins and it becomes a chance for her to spiral into madness or slowly crawl out of the abyss of pain and sorrow she has been in"
See, you can create a sad, downtrodden noble. It made for a fun playthrough for me. I was surprised how much of the game allowed me to express her anger and emotional instability. It was so bad I wondered why the advisors even asked her to be their leader. lol.

I honestly don't know who you're trying to convince. I've already said I disagree, and stated my reasons. These are just opinions. You'll find people who think either Dwarf story is the best. "Best" is mostly subjective concept.
IMPO: Human nobs suck. They are boring, esp female. I will not play as one. Too predictable -- again my subjective opinion, as is your own.
And I disagreed with your opinion that the Dalish was the best background because of an earlier encounter with Darkspawn. You know, opinions.
No need to get defensive.

LOL! I said one could make the case that the Dalish was the best. Same thing as when I said others will prefer the dwarves backgrounds, and make their case. I never said it was my own opinion. I do believe you're the one being defensive.
The only opinion I've really voiced is that human nobs are boring. I accept that others feel differently. It doesn't matter that people will believe differently. That's fine. I'm not trying to change people who think that way. It's just a game. I would argue that it would be nice if Bioware offered a different human perspective since they've done the human nob x 3 now. Again, I understand others will feel differently. Whatevs, that's fine.
