I know BSN gets a little picky sometimes, but for DAI to exceed 100 GOTY (Game Of The Year) awards for 2014

is pretty impressive making it the big winning game of 2014 and by a significant margin over Shadow of Mordor and the others.

Some may say other games weren't as much competition this year,

but GOTY is GOTY. Only Mass Effect 2 came close in 6 years.

So for a few minutes at least (before grumbling resumes) nicely done BioWare.

http://gotypicks.blogspot.co.uk

As a comparison (for the stat nerds myself included),

here are the top 3 of the last few years, including where BioWare games placed in the GOTY totals.

2014

  • (1) Dragon Age Inquisition
  • (2) Shadow of Mordor
  • (3) Mario Kart 8

2013

  • (1) The Last of Us
  • (2) Grand Theft Auto V
  • (3) Bioshock Infinite

2012

  • (1) The Walking Dead
  • (2) Journey
  • (3) Far Cry 3
  • - - - -
  • (5) Mass Effect 3

2011

  • (1) Skyrim
  • (2) Portal 2
  • (3) Batman: Arkham City
  • - - - -
  • (X) DA2 - zero GOTY awards

2010

  • (1) Red Dead Redemption
  • (2) Mass Effect 2 * just pipped by RDR, 5% in it
  • (3) Super Mario Galaxy 2

2009

  • (1) Uncharted 2
  • (2) Batman: Arkham Asylum
  • (3) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
  • (4) Dragon Age: Origins

Over a 100... Kinda gives an indication how much most of those individually are worth.... Either its game of the year or its not... now its like 90% of the time game off the year in 150 diff Goty competetions .. so is it or isnt it game of the year... no one knows xD

Before i forget... Not bashing the game here.. just think the goty thing is so diluded by now.. we need a single goty competition not 100's

Sadly one of the dumb**** gaming magazines in my country I've been following for five years didn't think it deserved even a mention in their lists of great games. Le sigh... respect opinions, Ahalvern.

I still don't understand how EA could have paid for the 20 Reader's Choice awards Inquisition has received so far

I also voted for it to become a GOTY on a Czech site.

Where is my check for voting for DAI in two different categories, AND for it's soundtrack in the OST category?

EAWare, deliver, or I will retract my vote...!

*waves a very loosely clenched fist*

I'd put it up as my GOTY too.

Speaking of which I still haven't received my money from EA as I am obviously paid off for the above opinion because apparently it's impossible to legitimately like the game.

So I accept either cash or cheque.

You can't convince me that DAI is a good game because it have a lot of GOTY, just as you can't convince me that Justin Bieber is a good singer because he have a lot of fans.

There was a multiplayer holiday commendation chest for you, does that not cover it?

No one cares if you believe it or not.

It's also a just plain weird analogy.  Critical acclaim versus popular acclaim.  That's like saying Breaking Bad is crap because Keeping Up With the Kardashians is crap.

It's the problem with entertainment as art (and vise versa).

A *thing* can be critically acclaimed (i.e. by people who know what the're talking about and whose job it is to know) and a commercial failure (even if only initially) - like the Shawshank Redemption.

A *thing* can be critically savaged but earn stupid amounts of money/ratings/sales - the last transformers movie, every reality tv show ever made (except Survivor and the Amazing Race), Justin Bieber.  The list could go on and on.

Of course, some things get both critical and financial floggings and some get both critical and financial success...like Dragon Age Inquisition.  Not liking a critically acclaimed, financially success *thing* doesn't make you stupid, tasteless or a bad person...it just means your tastes run counter to a lot of others.

Accusing people who do like those things of being trolls, fanboys/girls, paid for etc etc makes you a stupid, tasteless bad person.

what did you expect? there were no big games this year

it would be interesting to see how many awards DA:I would have won if TW3 and Batman Arkham Knight were released as planned at first

btw its also my GOTY no doubt but Bioware also had no real competition just look at all the big titles that were released with DA:O and Mass Effect 2+3 (3 couldn't have won with all the backlash for the ending anyway)

Considering the high chance of CTDs during cutscenes and the wartable, it does not deserve any award.

If we applied that rule, Bethesda wouldn't get any either.

DAI would absolutely be crushed by a big-name title like an Arkham game but where is this love for TW coming from? Neither TW1 nor TW2 got major any critical acclaim, which is a travesty in TW2s case given how good it was.

Niiiiice. Definitely not surprised. It did not have much competition and was incomparably ambitious. This resulted in a lot of flaws, but also a fresh, spectacular, and memorable journey that ultimately overshadow its weaknesses.

Not that I hate DAI or anything.  But GOTY awards doesn't really say much besides "these guys paid to have an opinion had an opinion"

The 20 Reader's Choice awards are about "people being paid to have an opinion having an opinion"?

Yes. You didn't get your check? I mean I ticked the "get paid in sexual favours" box, but that's because I live in a really liberal country.
