I voted in, like, four of those and I still don't have my cheque
.
Of course, I would be happy for BioWare to pay me in nuggalope plushies, if they had any. *hint hint*

If a death metal band receives album of the year prizes...
1 - It is supernaturally good
2 - It is not death metal anymore
It is not hard to sell when you are not yourself anymore. There arw ancient tales about losing your identity in order to get money, power and other things. Anyone can play Inquisition. It is beautiful. The more dumb you are the less likely it is to find failures in this game. So there you go people loving it.
About critics, they consider the game (almost all of them) the main story and the interesting quests. They assume people are not hardcore fans, completionist. So yeah, considering the 10% main content we have, game is godlike. Reviewers can't adress a specific public, and since this is exactly what Inquisition did, forsake the fans in favor of the masses, it is perfect to be critically acclaimed.
Thus the comparison above... If death metal musicians decided to go pop they could make enjoyable pop music with complex compositions to make huge success. They would never be Justin Bieber, as DAI will never be Skyrim or GTA, but they will still sell a lot more. According to my friend, Kiss (rock, kind of pop band of old) made a point about it in the past, talking about how easy it is to be pop, with a music, "I was made for loving you babe..." something like that, never checked it, but makes sense.
So yeah, if you play thiks game in a specific way, the same way the reviewers play, it is amazing. If you forget the other 100 hours of useless content and boring grind and materials/chematics farming. I still think people are in denial, as much as I admit great stories, great actor, blah blah blah, people still talk as if I (and others) accused Inquisition because of this no. It is the worst game in the universe because I can't play it like I did before. Because I do a completionist run in any Bioware game without feeling I am going waaaaaaaaaay off the main story, in DAO in fact it was all main quest for me, until Inquisition came I did not even realize I was doing side quests in DAO, it did not feel this way. Inquisition slaps your face with how much SIDE the side wuests feel and make completionist saves a pain in the whole existence. So if you blught a game to have fun, Inquisition is all godlike and stuff, great, this is what reviewers review. But when you buy a Bioware RPG you want what you always had, a game that you have fun playing, and that you want to finish a thousand times to test new builds, new decisions, new endings...
So now we have this GOTY, that I managed to do ONE completionist save (never happened before with a Bioware game), I planned four, and I am still trying to fill myself with energy so that I can take the whole frustration this game is for a second time. And I'm trying to picture how will I whistand 4 times...
While in DAO I sit and play for hours with happiness. Also played KOTO2. And as I stated in post in this forum, even Divinity 2 is enjoyable now that I could finish DAI. Game is so crappy it made the worst craps less crappy.
Yeah, we have a GOTY that my girlfriend who never played RPGs before loves but none of my friends that played NWN and DAO bought because they couldn't stand the awfulness.
Oh we have a GOTY! It is a wonderful GOTY indeed. Too bad GOTYs are not enjoyable. I wouldn't bear the pain of playing ANY of the ones in the GOTY lists.
So what can I do with all these GOTY prizes? Can I make it so that maps become smaller? That each material come in stacks of one hundred? That shops sell all schematics? Do they allow me to distribute my stat points? Give a second specialization? Do they let me click with keyboard and mouse?
GOTY is just it GOTY. The last thing I want when I buy a game is a GOTY. I don't want a good game. I want the game to be what it was. If I buy Street Fighter V in 2016, I want hadouken, shoryuken and tatsumaki senpuukyaku, I don't care about it being the best or the worst fighting game in history, I want it to be a Street Fighter. So as I said before identity x power. There is nothing hard in getting power while loing the identity.
I don't know about anyone else, but the amount of butthurt the numerous GOTY awards Inquisition has received combined with the amount of units Inquisitions has sold is generating in people is delicious. All those doom and gloom signals people have been shouting since DA2 haven't materialised.
The good news is we've passed the 1st stage of loss and are now onto the 2nd...
I wonder how long it will take for them to accept that AAA RPGs are accommodating the casual crowd now, and boycotting doesn't work when the companies are targeting an audience many times the size...
EDIT: I've long since gone to the Indie crowd for my hardcore kicks so it doesn't really bother me.

While I understand being disappointed that you didn't enjoy the game, why is it a bad thing for BioWare to make games that bring in new players like your girlfriend? And how did you friends know the game was awful if they didn't buy it? (Did they try it out at your place? I hope it was that, and not pirating the game.)
Anyway, I've been a BioWare player since BG1 and love Inquisition, so they haven't alienated ALL their old fans. (I hated the Neverwinter Nights original campaign, though, so I wouldn't give up all hope that they'll make other games you like in the future.)

Cool. Now Laidlaw can tell himself he's Todd Howard and get to work on the next Elder Scrolls game. It seems to be what he wants.

DAI would absolutely be crushed by a big-name title like an Arkham game but where is this love for TW coming from? Neither TW1 nor TW2 got major any critical acclaim, which is a travesty in TW2s case given how good it was.
because TW3 is being hyped so much its like suddenly every gaming website (who mostly just didn't care for TW1+2) are including it for the biggest games this year (and of course possible GOTY candidate)

It lost to gamespot's GOTY to shadows of Mordor, good to know gamespot is still the best gaming site.
lol sry but Shadow of Mordor while a good game is not GOTY material how is it better than DA:I again?
100 awards wooooo... now where be my singler player DLC Biowhere?

Yes, and the lesson of the last year is clearly that the 'most anticipated game' is not necessarily going to be the best game.
Just look at the hype and subsequent upset over Watch Dogs and Destiny. Both broke sales records.
Just look at how Shadow of Mordor pleasantly surprised people even though it is quite a basic game in its scope (the Nemesis system was excellent).
The Witcher 3 and Batman may well be terrific games, I hope so.
But when their names are quoted as a given that they will wipe the floor is not a guarantee, far from it.

The Arkham series sales actually went down with the last installment and the best selling Batman games are actually the Lego Batman series. Which blow Arkham and DA:I out of the water.
So....yeah. Maybe not an apt comparison.

They're called opinions. SoM does many things better than Inquisition, Inquisition also does many things better than SoM. GOTY awards are only opinions, none are more or less valid than others.
Another fan since the Baldur's Gate days here!
Very happy about the awards, as this is my new favourite game! ![]()
People need to accept that just because they personally do not like the game, does not mean Bioware is turning against thier older fans. There are plenty of us that love this game just as much as the old ones.
It's good to see that the "it's my opinion so it must be fact" mentality is still alive in this thread.
You stay classy, BSN.

Cyonan, you sneaky bastard! Now I have to come up with a whole new snarky remark for this thread.
Hmm...
Well, my avatar is a sneaky space thief =P
Lord have mercy I wasn't ready for this image LOL
