I just love that his refusal is accompanied by what is easily one of the most direct, unambiguous lines of dialogue in the whole game.

"No. Do not ask me again."

Even without watching the post-credits scene, it should be fairly obvious why Solas would refuse to drink from the Well- he is all about personal freedom. Take him out with Iron Bull (especially Bull's personal quest). He loathes the Qun and how it restricts free thought and free will. He hates the idea of the Inquisitor tricking the masses into believing her to be the actual Herald of Andraste. Being bound to anyone else is anathema to him, and it even upsets him when an Inquisitor who he is close to (friend or romance) drinks from the Well, because he doesn't want them to be bound, either.

"So, you won't drink from the Well.  And you don't want ME to drink from the Well. And you don't want Morrigan to have the power of the Well.  And you don't want to destroy the Well.  Helpful stuff, Solas.  Thanks."

Now I am even more confused.

If Mythal was murdered then her spirit may be a vengeful one or whatever, which makes sense because 'bound' usually means something negative...

Yet Flemeth (of Highever lol) has carried her around for ages.

Flemeth is Solas' dear old friend so if Solas doesn't want himself or anyone else for that matter, to be bound by drinking from the well...

The end would mean that Flemeth gave Mythal to Solas, which can't be because the person has to be willing.

Or simply that the orb is destroyed so he decided to take drastic measures, or they both knew and both were willing, which would make more sense.

I am probably missing something really obvious  ^_^

Companion opinions are all over the place with the Well of Sorrows. Solas spends the whole time arguing that Morrigan shouldn't drink, but then gets pissed if you drink. I brought Cassandra with me and asked her what she thought, and she said it was better for Morrigan to drink since they can't afford to lose you - and then disapproves when you let Morrigan drink.

For Ferelden's sake, people, work with me here!

To be fair Flemeth always talk in riddles too. Her laugh in DAO was awesome, although the way she questioned herself, crafty.

I doubt the companions in Inquisition would know anything useful anyway. If they did it would be ridiculous.

Yeah I just take it as Solas trying to use reverse psychology on Morrigan then being mad when you interfere.

That's the only way I can justify that.

(The claiming he begged you not to on the other hand is just him being delusional).

The choice was probably the hardest one in the game for me without Solas' harassment.  I ended up picking myself because Morrigan just seemed to want the Well a little too much for my liking, plus she had a child to take care of.

I know this is bit away from the topic but if he's so against the idea of being bound to someone (I understand why he would not want to be bound to Mythal, even though he defends 'Old Gods' and is against their killing in the Grey Warden's plan, but that's really the whole another topic, a serious one), then why is his greatest fear to die alone (The Fade and his epitaph)? I just think this is too strong to say it's the anathema for him. He's already bound to his ideals and ideas, he lies alot, constantly (take him with Sera he'll say that Elves are his people, he'll even state that Tevinter was built on the bones of 'his people', but then he'll blatantly say to your Inquisitor that he's not defined by his race (Elven) nor that he belongs to them. He's telling the truth but only to make his lie more believable - the little truths are the cover he uses to hide his true nature... It's not about being bound, it's about much higher agenda he has, the plan that has gone awry. Epitaphs in the Fade are actually very good essence of Inquisitor's companions, truly good short descriptions, and even though Solas is a loner and a wayward son, he is afraid of the idea of dying alone, meaning that being bound to someone or everyone or everything is not anathema for him. I just think he acts 'cause he thinks he must, it's his curse 'cause of something he considers his own hubris perhaps? Something that he is compelled to correct and that's why he thinks he needs to be alone - but after everything, loneliness is his greatest fear.

(this is spoiler section so I won't bother tagging)

Ummm...Because he is Fen'Harel and last thing he wants is to serve Mythal or any other elven God that he tricked in past perhaps? Because it seems good reason enough for me.

Yeah, there is a massive difference between being bound to someone ("this person can override my own free will and make me do things I don't want to do") and being bonded with someone ("this person is my partner, but we retain full autonomy of ourselves"). You are basically conflating slavery with being in a relationship which...no. There are very much not the same thing.

I remember when Morrigan asked me who I thought would be better fit to drink from the Well and immediately thought of Solas, y'know the guy who is all about knowledge and such.  I asked him and his response caused me to pause for only a split second before my brain fed me the information that "Yeah, don't want to be bound to something or someone either."  So, I didn't blame the guy.  I still believe that's the main reason, too.  He's on a mission and he has plans to play out.  Being under Mythal's whim wouldn;'t be acceptable.

I was torn because I didn't trust Morrigan to have so much power all to herself and having my Inq being a servant to whatever or whoever Mythal was.  Finding out that Mythal was Flemmeth was sweet as I know that Morrigan will be kept in check from doing anything she ignorantly deems must be done to suit her.

Neither does Varric. He responds with (paraphrasing) "This is all weird ****. I have no idea. Whatever you do, I trust you."

Why don't we just make a big sign that says "DON'T" and hit everyone with it?

So if Solas Absorbed Mithal, does that mean he has control over the Inquisitor? (or my inquisitor, since I took the well)
