Why don't we just make a big sign that says "DON'T" and hit everyone with it?

Ahhh, the Aveline solution.

Actually, Aveline could have drank from the well - she'd have just told Mythal to mind her p's and q's.

Solas does not want to be a slave to Mythal, nor does he want anyone else to be one but, he also does not want the well destroyed because it is one of the few bits of Elvenhan left.

Yes SLAVE. Remember, Solas will tell you (at least if romanced) that the Vallaslin are the markings of a slave, slaves who marked themselves proudly. Now, also remeber that all of the  defenders and Abelas in the Temple of Mythal had Vallaslin of Mythal. Slaves to Mythal and proud to be her slaves.

My Dalish Quizzy drank form the well, he had Mythal's Vallaslin anyway, and favored her of all his gods so, like the ancient elves is proud to serve her. He\s also not one to ask another to do something eh wouldn't do and, since there is a price to be payed for drinking, he chose to pay that price himself and, it isn't entirely a bad price to him.

My instinct was to refuse to drink it. For all I knew, Mythral could be the Old God of the 6th Blight and I'd end up like the Grey Wardens.
Even after I knew Flemuth was Mythral I think it was even more appropriate for Morrigan to drink it. They had such a strained relationship, watching just talk in front of that shirne (Morrigan didn't have God baby in my game) gave them a chance to work out there issues.

Maybe it wouldn't have any effect on him because of the whole Dread Wolf thing, which would have given the game away. Or maybe it would have been this weird situation where he's bound to Mythal then absorbs Mythal so he's bound to himself and the paradox allows him to divide by zero or something.

I believe absorbing Mythal was his last resort. He was still hoping to get the orb back but that fell through.

Cullen advocates this at one point.  He even says that because Varric holds the rights, he could have the Inquisition make them directly, rather than import the signs from Kirkwall...

Now I am even more confused.

If Mythal was murdered then her spirit may be a vengeful one or whatever, which makes sense because 'bound' usually means something negative...

Yet Flemeth (of Highever lol) has carried her around for ages.

Flemeth is Solas' dear old friend so if Solas doesn't want himself or anyone else for that matter, to be bound by drinking from the well...

The end would mean that Flemeth gave Mythal to Solas, which can't be because the person has to be willing.

Or simply that the orb is destroyed so he decided to take drastic measures, or they both knew and both were willing, which would make more sense.

I am probably missing something really obvious  ^_^

Remember the quote from Guild Wars 2...

"History never lies but Historians do."

Most likely everything we know about the history of Thedas may not be the actual history of the past events. It is even mentioned the actual history of the chantry has been altered through time by people who wanted to use the history as a way to gain power.

Yeah, there is a massive difference between being bound to someone ("this person can override my own free will and make me do things I don't want to do") and being bonded with someone ("this person is my partner, but we retain full autonomy of ourselves"). You are basically conflating slavery with being in a relationship which...no. There are very much not the same thing.

No, I'm not doing that :) - it's just that bind (verb) and bond (as a verb), are synonyms. In my my mother tongue depending on context their meaning will be determined and it can range. Funny thing though, archaic meaning of 'bond' as a verb is actually being bound in slavery. But, you're right and I'll correct myself -

so, Solas is a being of free will, the one who knows what actually happened in the ancient times and he already knows what happens if one drinks from the Well. He can't tell that straight, 'cause he's been giving half-truths and partial information through the entire journey with the Inquisitor, but he'll protest if the Inquisitor chooses to drink (can't stop it, 'cause he can't reveal his true nature nor the fact that he's been lying the whole time).

I really should've taken Vivienne with me and let HER drink. She and Flemeth would've gotten along swimmingly.

"Why?"

"I don't want to explain."

"So, why no?"

"Just no."

"But why?"

"I don't want to explain."

shove a companion into the well against their will!

missed opportunities!
