I am indeed. I'm guessing that has something to do with it?

Prolly :)

But am not 100% sure! Think i remember someone typed something about it...

But it seems playing DAI without issues with various things seems to be hard... I myself struggle with Saves not wanting to load etc.

Forced to update game to patch 7, and i was kinda trying to avoid that! I prefer using SRWE for hotsampling - and we cant on the later patch!

I don't think so, but everything is possible. I am on Win8.1Pro , but works fine without having to copy it in the game directory.

It really depends on what you want. Do you want/can you run at a higher rez than 1080p? I can't run this game at higher resolutions at the settings I want so I went with a nice 27" AOC 1080p IPS panel. If 1080p is what you're looking for I'd be happy to recommend it.

AOC i2769Vm

Thanks so much Melissa, It looks like I'll be holding off on the new monitor.  The Carriage House Roof needs fixed *sigh*.  But I really appreciate the advice.  I guess I will just cluelessly venture into the world of down-sampling, hot-sampling, and all them other samplings :P .  Right now my monitor is definitely my weak link.

Oh thats odd :o

Are u on win8 perhaps?

I am indeed. I'm guessing that has something to do with it?

I'm on Win 8.1 and run DAI Cinematic Tools from my desktop with no issue.

I would try out the program that was linked on the previous page - it's way better than SRWE in my opinion.

Yeah, i was planning on swaping over to WBG, Brandon told me on FB rather early, i just am soooo anti swaping tools/tactics lol

My issue atm is that i can not load my saves of most of my chars - Saying i saved em on a higher version of game.

And i have not... So i dunno what happened to the game. Tried so many things.

Even patched game to 7 + modded. But Dai wont even start then... Just loading abit then stops, so dont even get to try my save files.

So ended up rolling back to patch 5 again last night - Now game start, but i still can not start any of my save files.

Tried to edit the package files version nr - But it dont help at all ...

Panic ill tell you!

So I have just started to stalk this lovely community and gotten addicted to screenshots and getting the best out of my playtime in graphic. I have been reading tons of stuff, but my non-english native language and my brainfarts is preventing me from understanding whats most likely very simple... :D

Here it goes, and; if this has been written somewhere else I appologise, I been reading tons the last week, but my eyes is starting to cross around itself...

I have installed the Cinematic tools. Fiddled around with it for a while, having trouble with getting the colours etc to change, but im sure ill figure it out, I seen a lot of post in this thread about it, will read it again and this time try to make it stick in my teflon-brain :)

My issue is: I really wanna use SweetFX. Last night I tried to install the ones you use, failed, cause I didnt understand (Ill come back to that later) and instead installed the one I found on Nexus. Altho... I dont really like the constrast used there, been looking at the screenshots from the ones on the sweetfx  page and there is some that look lovely to me. Now...here is my issue:

I am having trouble understanding things about sweetfx and how to do it. Im gonna explain how my head works: (Put on your ailien-hat and prepare for inpact)

I am looking at the Lostis - DA:I Preset L&C *Final-UPDATE!  - and in my head that is the "base" for the whole "mod"-if you will. Or...platform.

And, on THIS page i look at it as alternatives/different presets of the sweetfx... Are you following me? (*chuckle..poor folks...)

Now... As I THINK it is.. is that I first should download the one i called Platform/base. (Lostis - DA:I Preset L&C *Final-UPDATE!)

THEN my head tells me that if i download some of the other ones from the second page and choose f.eks Cookies Preset cause I like his screenies....then I will have to download that and change out some of the files from the "base"-sweetfx.

(the more i write the worse it gets in my head, oh my...)

Anyway, this is how I think it is. But any Readme-files has only made me more confused to be perfectly honest. If I am correct, what files do i need to switch out?

I have no plan to play around with notepad and change things, this is to far beyond my skills as im quite sure you understand. I just wanna get it in place and play...

Now, many say they have problems with getting it to work. So far, the only thing I did with it when I tried to install it last night was to pack it out at the right place and leave it there, not really knowing what to do with the preset files... I have already removed the Nexus-one since I dont want it.

What I am looking for is a Guide for The Less Smart-ones.

It is strange that this baffles me so much cause all the fixing I have done lately with mods and make everything to work..but this - no.

info: I got win 7 home premium 64, and a nvidia graphic card.

Cause of this I didnt wanna try to follow the guide that was posted further up cause that was for win8 and radeon and stuff.

(I had win 8 already installed with this new pc, but I used a pitchfork and removed it with force and violation and gently installed win 7 - thats how much i "love" win 8...)

SO...I wish you good luck at trying to wrap your head around this, and in advance I will thank anyone who tries to help me. You poor souls...

PS: I been stalking a lot of this forums for a long time, including the modding forum ect. I cannot reply there, anyone know why? Is it cause I havent been active with posts before, or...? I made a account and are following groups... I love what our modders do and wanted to thank them and write my testingresults on their hard work, but I cant seem to do it. I am indeed a newbie on this forums, but oh how I love this community with its nice people and resepct for eachother... I admire that so much. You dont find that everywhere!

The links you posted are all to SweetFX presets different users posted. All of them will require the "base," which is SweetFX. They are simply providing you with their specific tweaks to attain the look they outline. Pick the one you like the most, and follow the instructions that user provides for installation. I personally prefer the one that Lostis did. But you can't use Lostis and Cookies at the same time, because they are all personalized tweaks of the same thing. I recommend picking one, using it, and tweaking it even more to your own taste. I did this with Lostis.

I can't really help you on the process of installation as I use RadeonPro and Windows 8.1 (I actually prefer this way - not sure what people have against Windows 8.1 but I really like it, even over Win 7 - it's so easy to use). With Windows 7 I believe you just have to have the SFX injector and SweetFX_Settings.txt located in your game's executable folder.

From what I've read, only mods in daimod format will work. So any old mods that are not in this format will need to be manually converted, or you will have to wait til they are updated by the author. I've also read that any game changing mods may/may not work. Lastly, I saw folks say that Shantia's textures with the painted on brows will not work. I'm not sure if any of these are your issues.

There was also an update made to the mod manager (the 2nd one in the same day) that fixed problems folks were having with mods and JoH DLC. Did you happen to download the 2nd one he posted?

My mods all work perfectly so far. I'm only using texture replacements (skyhold outfits, high-rez Cullen face, Josie outfit, etc including Shantia's brows and textures WITHOUT the painted brows). I'm also using the multiple romance mod and all seems ok.

Minor point of clarification: The old format of mods (the so-called distributable mod) will work with the newest Mod Manager (v0.52) again. That was added back in when so many people had mods they couldn't convert but really wanted.

Do I understand correctly that the one Lostis made is also a preset, and the "base" they all use is the SweetFX 1.5 wich is the shader? So all the presets are made out of the shader, yes?

I presume thats why it say on the top:  "Shader used: SweetFX 1.5" ... ahem.

I will try to grasp my head more around this, hoping someone will popp in with some help on installation :)

Thank you for the responce !

I was able to find updated versions of all my mods except for one - the black leather pants. I'm glad now that I can go back to using that one because the grey leather on armor was a drag!

Yes, all of the ones you see posted that use SweetFX 1.5 are just user-made presets (personally tweaked SweetFX_Settings.txt). However, you need to be careful because some recommend the use of specific versions of SweetFX 1.5. I believe Lostis is one of those, however he provides a download link to the correct one. You should be fine if you download the SweetFX version he links to and use his SweetFX_Settings.txt. So there are two separate downloads you should be clicking on from his preset page.

FINALLY i got it to work... I now have a good base for good screenshots ^_-

In the end it was amazingly easy; download, put into correct folder - done. Working.

My choise ended on Lostis` and even tho I downloaded the sweetfx configurator I stopped trying to mess with things. Since my language isnt English its  a bit over my head ^^ Maybe later.

Thank you for all your help and patience :)

EDIT: Forgot to add: my screen is flickerling like crazy when this sweetfx is running. Didnt do that with the one i downloaded from nexus. Weird.

The black loadingscreen is one big flicker and the loadingscreen with text on seems to have the text splitting up and having swadows of its text all over the screen. Cant explain it better, it is strange.

I cant see any of this ingame, so it dont bother me, but...anyone else have this?

I'll to help you as best I can.  If I am understanding you correctly you want to use different sweetfx presets, install them and see what you like the best.  You can do this many ways but this might be the easiest...

1) download the Sweetfx configurator here http://sweetfx.thelazy.net/

2) create a folder named "SweetFx configurator" and extract the contents into it

3) find the presets you would like to try from the sweet fx database here https://sfx.thelazy....games/game/777/ and place them SweetFX Configurator\SweetFX\SweetFX\Presets folder

4) read the readmes and make sure all the additional .dlls are in the correct locations in dragon age inquisition folder here ...\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition

5) open the SweetFX configurator and click add a new game  Point it to here "...\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\DragonAgeInquisition.exe"

6) Load the selected preset you want and click launch game

7) once the game has loaded click the scroll lock key once to click sweetfx off and then again to turn them back on and see if you notice a change

Hope that helps...

I only downloaded the links from Lostis page, since the fx and the injector was included in one file. Then I just dowloaded his preset and has used that since.

I always keep all my drivers updated via a program I use (and has gotten addicted to) that informs me when any software in using is outdated and a new update is available. Also, my nvidia also popps up with info when a update is available, so hard to miss :)

I use the Nvidia gforce GTX 760 (and very happy with it :)

Hmmm, that's the SFX version I'm using as well. However, I use RadeonPro to inject it. I actually prefer to use RadeonPro over just dropping it into the game's executable folder, mainly for customization purposes. In addition, RadeonPro makes an audible *click* sound when you get a screenshot, so you know what you're getting.

I've never had the flickering issue and I use NVIDIA as well (780 TI), but I'm on Windows 8.1. The only thing I can suggest is try a different version of SweetFX and/or try to via RadeonPro.

Another thought - do you know what fps you are getting on the loading screen? Could the weird flicker be your monitor? Are you playing with vsync enabled?

This might help you with your flicker.

Do you use nvidia inspector?  (If not you can get it here)

Display Settings (in-game):
Vertical Sync: Off

This is for Skyrim but follow part 1 of this guide http://faroffmods.co...r-off-enb-v1-0/ but instead of using the settings he shows for skyrim try setting these:

Vertical Sync Tear Control: Adaptive
Vertical Sync: 1/2 Refresh Rate

*chuckle* I tried to turn Vsync off, and it made me seasick :D  The screen became a ocean of waves, so i quickly turned that on again. There has never been any games I can turn Vsync on, my monitor (or pc... or whatnot) cant handle taht, and it always become waves.

As for my fps when im on loadingscreen...hmm...Will you belive me if I say I am reaaally good with pc`s? hehe. Is there a way I can monitor my fps when I play? I know i`ve seen that somewhere, but I just cant remember where.

I downloaded that Nvidia inspector, nice tool! Altho very overwhelming. Half of it I dont even know what is. Can I see fps there, with a different name to it? Oh lovely how nOOb I feel now :)

As for my monitor, it CAN be that who causes problems, its starting to get old, and I have a slight flickering in other games too, altho mostly noticable at black background/loading screens. Doesnt bother me ingame.

I will read this posts more closely and test other things you told me a bit later, this is what I had time for now. Dinnertime! (My boyfriend made dinner, Maker save us!  )

I generally keep vsync set as "use 3D application" and it works out pretty well. If I turn vsync off, I tend to see horrible tearing (and in the case of Skyrim, physics break and things go flying which is really funny in itself). In the case of DA:I, I suppose it would depend on what kind of fps you are getting in-game. If you have a 60Hz monitor, then setting vsync to half refresh-rate would result in the display locking at 30fps (I believe that's how it works), something which I wouldn't want to do with my system. My 60Hz monitor is "overclocked" to 75Hz, so I have vsync set to match the refresh rate. With DA:I, I typically get anywhere from 40 - 60fps, depending on where I'm at. I wouldn't want to be stuck at 30fps.

If you're seeing flickering in other games, it could be your monitor. Do you know what sort of refresh rate your monitor has? I know my eyes can easily see flickering with lower refresh rates on black screens.

In terms of fps-monitoring tools, there are several. SweetFX actually has one built in, but since I don't use SweetFX the way you do I can't help you there (I'm thinking it's not easily toggled on/off). I'm not sure if the other tools (MSI Afterburner is the one that comes to mind) will work in conjunction with SweetFX (I'm thinking they don't, but I could be wrong - I know the Afterburner OSD won't work with RadeonPro). RadeonPro also has a great built-in fps display that is easily toggled on/off so you can get rid of it when you want to take screenshots. Have I mentioned I really like RadeonPro?

This is generally correct but not completely right.  Let me explain as best I understand it.  Monitor refresh rates do not affect frames per second. Frames per second is how many distinct images the  GPU outputs will output per second.  Where the refresh rate is the number of times a screen is capable of displaying per second.

If you have a 60Hz monitor, and the GPU is outputting 120 fps, you only actually display 60 frames. Likewise, if you have a 120Hz monitor and a GPU outputting 75 frames, you will output 75 unique frames.  Refresh Rate will affect Vsync however, as Vsync will cap the maximum number of frames to the monitors refresh rate, so enabling Vsync on a 120Hz monitor would cap at 120 frames per second.

In my suggestion above I was suggesting to see if taking vsync control away from the game and letting it be handled by the GPU and see if it handles it any better at half the refresh rate.  You are correct for the moment her display would only display 30 frames per second if she has a 60hz monitor.  If that got rid of the tearing I would than suggest to set vertical sync to Force On.  Which would set her adaptive Vsync to her monitors refresh rate.

hey guys, sorry for slow reply, i`ve been away a few days. First of all, thank you for your replies :)

So i`ve tried both your tips - and a few others:

Vertical Sync Tear Control: Adaptive
Vertical Sync: use 3D application

This one basically made no difference, if anything the tearing got worse ingame (not just blackscreens)

Vertical Sync Tear Control: Adaptive
Vertical Sync: 1/2 Refresh Rate

This option made it much better. The tearing was very minimal on black screens (altho there was still this weird "reflection" of the words on the screen, cant explain it,. maybe I should have taken a screenshot ^^) I still saw some "rolling" and it didnt feel as smooth as usual.

I then put on Vertical Sync: force on. (tried with force off too, just cause Im not sure what that did, and had to try ^^ )
That also ended with flickering.

What I did next was to remove the whole sweetfx to check if there acctually was any flickering without it. It was not. Everything was smooth and no reflections either in loadingscreens or ingame.
This is a bit puzzling. Maybe I should try to get another type fx, I have no idea. At any rate, the sweetfx is obviously the one to blame, and not my monitor in this case.
Gotta admidt, tho... I really dont feel like living without sweetfx after the lovely graphic boost...

I will run without any sweetfx until you have seen this and maybe responded before I do anything, maybe you got some tips on something else I can try.

As a note: I had a huge gamecrash today, game closed, runetime error blabla. (basically 5 minutes after I got home, sat down and wanted to relax with a bit gaming, lol)  Of course, as always, all my settings resetted, including graphic, (and all my keybindings... curses...) so I went in and fixed a few things, I try to follow the first part of this post, cause that has really helped me with framerate. I belive that wasnt wise, tho, since I used sweetfx. (Here my noob`ing come in again ofc  ) anywho, after I set the graphics to what I used before the crash the flickering came ingame too, like crazy, and I came on here to check for new posts.
Restarting the game didnt work, just so thats said.
Altho, with or without crash - the game was flickering, and I gotta do something...

Before I forget it; my monitor is 60Hz.

Waiting for your response :)

Ty in advance!

EDIT: Now after I played around with nvidia inspector I can see huge tearing on the screen, just a bit ingame but HUGE when its cutscenes. Was just talking with Dorian and I was close at getting dizzy. What do I gotta do to.. i dont know... disable the settings I played around with on the inspector? Only thing I has changed was finding DA;I, then: Vertical Sync Tear Control: Adaptive,  and vertical sync: (tried force off, on, 3d and 1/2 rate, non changed it)

I checked settings ingame, its as it has always been.

This wasnt here before... any idea? What should I put it on to get it back at...ehhh... vanilla?....

Of the sweet fx post processing effects the bloom setting and the HDR setting can hurt performance the most i think.  The Lotiss preset you are using has both of them enabled.  I switch between 4 presets:

Lotiss Final: Bloom and HDR enabled.

My own custom preset: Bloom and HDR enabled.

Better Colours:  Neither Bloom or HDR is enabled.

Vli's Fantastic: Only bloom is enabled

Here is a comparison between them on  my machine:

Try resetting everything back to the way it was.  Here is a screen of what some of my settings are in inspector they are pretty standard.

Spoiler

If that doesn't help remove the application from inspector.  Sorry I haven't been able to help you much. The only other thing I can think of is that its a heat or hardware issue.  An overheating video card can cause tearing and artifacts on the screen.

Edit: clarity.

oh my, what has happened... Did as you said and reset the inspector. After that gamecrash I have insane screen-tearing. I didnt notice it before when I did the checking earlier, wasnt really looking for it and didnt move around much. But after I started playing and move around its basically insane. Its not flickering, its tearing, insane rolling when I move camera, and its very much present even when not moving. I am quite baffled. It hasnt been like this before, and I cant understand what its comming from, why it has suddenly appeared after that gamecrash I had. I dont think the crash has anything to do with it, I have repaired game, checked all settings, it is as it should be.

Tried to install sweetfx again, but then we add both tearing and flickering, its just to much, so i removed it :P

I have been googling and testing for the last hours and I am at a loss. Not much you can do from your front i belive, unless you got some tips or links.

Thing is, following "guides" for settings ect shouldnt be nessesarry since the game was running smooth before.

This was an update, I will continue raging and trying to solve this weirdness...

Thank you for your screenshots ect, they will be useful if I ever get this fixed and I can use sweetfx again ^_-

UPDATE: I have tried to switch monitors with my boyfriend, result was the same.

Logged into another game - no tearing.

...at a loss
