Not sure if you are experiencing something similar to this.  The comments after the video stated that he had to run DAI as an admin to get it to recognize nvidia settings...

Spoiler

I am not sure why the game crash would have caused something like that unless it screed something up that origin isn't recognizing that needs to be repaired.  I am at a loss.

Running as admin vs normal makes no difference for me and I'm on NVIDIA - though I don't have any problems so it's worth a shot for someone that is.

I would try two things:

1 - Download a different version of the SweetFX injector and/or try it via RadeonPro.

2 - Re-install your graphics driver or try rolling back to the previous version. I'm currently on 350.12 with no issue.

To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of NVIDIA Inspector. I tend to stick with regular old NVIDIA CP unless I absolutely have to. Here are some screenshots of my CP settings:

Hehe, this was one of the things I came over when I was on my research-frenzy, and yes, it is like that... I already know the settings get implemented, i`ve seen the difference in the settings ive tried.

A little update.

I found this on my search and wrote there if you wanna see what I did. (Last page)

In short, my pc has a opening on top of the pc. Since my graphic card was above 80 degrees when I played I decided to open it to check for dust, and oh how I found it... Never seen anything like it... The fan was close to gone in dust. It had basically grown its own ecosystem in there. This pc is relatively new, never had one with open top before, and now I can see why i prefer it without. its inhaling all the dust on the top. I have closed it and instead opened up two other breathers for it.

So i picked it apart and cleaned it. Now the temp has dropped to 68-71 when i play and its far from as noisy, logically enough.

it SEEMS the tearing is very reduced, altho I still got this...lines - horisontal ones on my screen ingame. Not sure how to solve thos one, but might have to live with it if i cant find anyother solution.

I am happy to hear that you have your system at least playable again.  Yes dust can cause havoc.  I have a open top case also and I have to clean my system alot.  I pretty much keep a can of compressed air on my desk.

As for the remaining tearing I am at a loss.  Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable than myself will be able to help you better.

what do you guys mean by "open top case?"

I have an exhaust fan on the top of my case, as well as one in the back and bottom (the case has feet). The front is also open with a fan that intakes air. But, all openings have removable screens to help prevent dust and hair from getting in. The inside stays remarkably clean. In a year's time I only had to clean it out once and it wasn't bad at all when I finally did (meaning I saw no improvement with temps because the dust hadn't started to effect it yet). Then again, my case is ginormous - it was listed as "full tower" and is all of 22" long x 20" high x 12" wide.

I have six cats so I would hate to see what the inside would look like if I didn't have those screens! I cleaned out my work tower once and OMG I think a cat fell out of it.  :o

Have you tried reinstalling your graphics driver, or rolling back to the previous one? I actually just got a pop up saying there is a new one out. That's worth trying as well.

Also, since you mentioned heat issues, have you tried monitoring software to see what your CPU is running at? If your GPU was getting that high, your CPU could be getting pretty hot too. I've had great luck with HWiNFO64.

My case is similar to yours.  When I built it I have to intake from the front and back plus another fan for the radiator and a final fan to exhaust out the top.  That way a the hard drives, power supply and radiator get air cooled.  When I smoked tested it worked like a charm.  Unfortunately what I didn't realize is that one of my cats would decide to make the top of my case her favorite lying spot.  Her hair isn't that much of a problem it.  Its her dander that falls into the system when it is turned off that is the main issue.  Just coats everything if I don't clean it regularly.

Ah, I try to keep my cats off the desk, and the office is closed at night and when I'm not home. One in particular likes to jump on the computer and the power button is right on top so little kitty feet can easily hit it (or the reset button). One time I even came home to a corrupted BIOS (I assume because she sat on the power button and it kept cycling - I read that repeatedly hitting the power button can do that). Thank goodness my motherboard has a backup BIOS! Because of that incident I'm extra careful about kitties and the computer.

I never turn my PC off for any length of time though.

open top case is...well, i googled open top case pc cabinet, and lol - first thing that came up was the exact same cabinet that I use.

Here is a pic of it. You cant see it from top, but if you look at the grills on the side there, it has that type of grill on the whole top of the cabinet. And then I mean, the WHOLE top -.-

My boyfriend has a similar cabinet, not the same, but also open top. He`s came with a removable screen - mine didnt ofc... After he saw my pc, his eyes turned big, he turned around and started to dismantle his own pc. He`s was even worse, cause he has his pc on the floor, and omg - he uses it like a footrest when he is watching youtube (We are kinda Yogscast-fans, gotta love Sips   )

Anywho, he`s was even worse, so he had to do like me: Take the whole fan off to get it clean. It was bad, we had to improvise, so some of our tools was q-tips, vacuumcleaners, paper and a tine dash of water to get the dust out of every crack, lol ^^

He put his screen on again, and I improvised by using a piece of cardboard. To make up for it I removed the middle plastic plate in the middle of the front, altho it has already airflow from under it and both sides. It hasnt gotten any warmer inside, so its fine.

I`m gonna improvise and make my own little grill for the open whole at the front when I get around to it. No matter what, its the top thats worse. Everything in the air not even fall down but is getting sucked in from the fan. bad design id say.

And to make it worse I got this dogbreeds: Rottweiler, labrador and a little fluffy hairball called mittlespitz. Those breeds make the most FANTASTIC dustbunnies: the fluffy mittlespitz-hair make the dustbunny nice and big and soft and airborn -  then you add stiff rottweiler/labrador-hair into that and you got the most amazing hardcore ball of hell that gatheres up everywhere in every corner :P

On top of that I also got a black shorthaired cat that adds it into the mix.

Wow, im so good at getting sidetracked! I humbly appologise! :D

Back on topic:Melissa:

Yes, I did that yesterday as one of my projects. It indeed came another update for my nvidia yesterday. Before I installed it i rolled back, but no luck.

Yesterday I also tested some more sweetfx. Tried the 2.0-verson wich worked magically, but its only 2 presets out for that one so far, and I did not like any of them. Gotta wait until someone put out one 2.0 i like ^^

So now I have installed k`putts config. As it is with every 1.5-versons I try it makes my loadingscreen go all weird like I explained earlier, unfortunately its also become very visible ingame, but its playable. Everything is playable if you just wanna play hard enough :)

In between I am testing new things still, I am utterly baffled over all this.

Checked my fps yesterday too, its jumping between 45-60 fps. Tested different graphic settings, didnt do much.

I have used "user.cfg" file  to get in: WorldRender.MotionBlurEnable 0

I`ve also done this: ""Forcing VSync and Triple Buffering off using the above commands in your "user.cfg" file and forcing them back on via your GPU driver control panel can eliminate stuttering and screen tearing during cutscenes, without affecting input lag.""

increased fps a bit and helped on the tine bit of tearing that was left. Thats now gone.

This is tips from THIS page.

I downloaded the HWiNFO64 but my skills didnt live up to finding where the temp was....ahem. I took a screenie, maybe you can guide me :P

If you're ever in the market for a new case, I would highly recommend the one I use:

Thermaltake Chaser MK-1

It has so much air flow and cleanable screens that drastically lower the level of dust/hair that gets in.

The only other thing I can think of in regards to DA:I would be to try and run a repair install via Origin. That can sometimes fix lots of problems. However, I'm not sure if that will revert all the tweaking you've done (which may be a good thing anyways). Repairing the install shouldn't effect any save games.

About HWiNFO, this is what mine looks like, so I'm really at a loss there:

RzeE6Lv.png

I think mine is an older version. If you downloaded the most recent version, I think you would need to look for the sensor section.

*edit* I just downloaded the most recent version, and you can get to the sensors but clicking on "sensors." Or, when you first open the program, you can check off "sensors only" so it doesn't bring up all the other stuff. This is what I did so that I don't have to see all the other windows.

How I love the helpfulness fron you guys

I didnt find that sensor-thing at all cause I didnt tick on any of those alternatives, lol :P And from with guidance this is what I found:

XLCGZop.jpg

I can see that mine is higher than yours. This pic was taken when I had the game running. When I shut DA:I down all temps dropped quite fast down 3-4 degrees.

I have no clue about what normal tempratures is on CPU, but since its higher than yours...^^ I await your judgement *bow*

As for trying to repair the game: I am a mod-freak and test and play with a lot of different mods. This resolve in me at times remove the whole patchfolder, and yesterday I removed the whole installer-file so I got fresh updates on all the extra software thats needed (had to test, right...? )

So that one`s covered :)

And yes..ive also tried to run the game without mods wich didnt remove the weird lines. Had to try that too! ^^ At this point I am not quite sure what else to try tbh, weird thing is, when I have the game running (with sweetfx) and I tab the game down and go to desktop or internet, the lines often showes there too. Strangeness :)

Even if my issues may not be solved, ive still learned a lot from this! Knowledge is powah...! - or so they say ;)

If your core temps are ~41 with the game running then you're doing good. My core temps get up into the high 50's at load when I'm pushing the system. What you see in my screenshot are my idle temps. 29 is a very good idle temp, but my CPU is also liquid-cooled and my case is huge with lots of air flow. If you're idling in the mid 30's then that's just fine.

Normal temps for a GPU at idle would be 30 - 40, depending on the GPU. From what I've read (and remember with my older systems), AMD cards run hotter. Normal GPU temps at load can run anywhere from 60 - 75ish, again depending on the GPU.

If you are seeing the lines on your desktop outside of the game, them I would think it's safe to say it's not the game. I also don't think it would be SweetFX, since that is an overlay to the game. As uncleanspirit asked, have you tried another monitor to test?

Yes, I grabbed my boyfriends monitor while he took a nap *grin* Same result.

Just a fyi, the lines only show up on desktop when I have the game running, and usually just the first seconds after I tabbed down - but sometimes it stick around a while while I am doing things. (Not after I close DA:I ofc, then it is gone)  And it doesnt always show up either, im a tabber of doom and use Wiki while I play.

I removed sweetfx again last night cause the lines seems to just get worse. When I turn it off with scroll lock the lines is reduced to mininal.

When I have sweetfx on and enter a dark cave i cant see anything. its lines and shadows from other places on the screen all over, so every time i entered a dark cave I had to turn it off. Thinking that it really worked against its purpose i removed it.

As I have tried 2.0 sweetfx with no problems I just gotta wait until that is getting more presets.

I have just tried to start up Diablo 3, DA2, DA Origins, Skyrim and neverwinter online. Walked around a bit but no lines present. That tells me this gotta come from the game somehow, altho it is indeed baffling why the lines at times follow me out of the game.

What is the most baffling is that I had a perfect playexperience with zero issues, graphics were beautiful with no glitches, and after that crash it all went to hell.

I have just reinstalled graphic drivers, reinstalled the game and set all options back to what it was prior to the crash. Same result.

I have seen all around that Win 7 has issues with this game in general. An example:

Directly from the driver release notes:

Windows Vista/Windows 7 64-bit Issues
Single GPU Issues

  • Dragon Age Inquisition runs poorly (stutters) on NVIDIA hardware. [1588023

Still doesnt explain why it fell apart. I did nothing new (other than crash - runtime error it said, i didnt see the rest) i hadnt changed anything, hadnt installed anything new with drivers or anything.

I have ran out of things to try, so I guess I will just have to play it like it is with lines. For some odd reason the character creation has gotten bad graphic too. I saw this earlier today, just logged in to look at some mod-hair, and the faces was blurry and ...strange. Like the top part of the eye had pixles, and I mean pixles. Lovely squares...

My pc has gotten posessed, my conclution is, cause nothing of this make any sense what so ever!

Gotta thank you for the "diagnostic" of my pc`s temp, tho, at least thats normal ^^

EDIT: Forgot to say: when I remove sweetfx my loadingscreen is normal and black and nice. Same with the non-black loadingscreens with text, and also when I am logging in before I click "continue game"  ect. No lines, no nothing - not until I am ingame playing. Weeeeeird.

I`ve tried several times, they dont show up on screenshots, not even when I had sweetfx active and the black loadingscreen were a messy shadow/lines-hell...

Does that tell you anything...?

That is strange because it is my understanding that when you take a screenshot it is actually showing what your gpu is rendering and not what is on your monitor.  So by them appearing correct that tells me that it is an issue with your monitor and not card/software.  What is strange about it is that this behavior continued both on yours and your boyfriends monitor.  I'm curious when you changed monitors did you also change out the video cable?

I'm also not 100% sure if I am correct on this.  Someone might be able to help you better.

A update (and a good one acctually omg!! ^^ )

MelissaGT: You posted pics of your settings in nvidia control panel. Before I followed a FEW of your settings. Yesterday in my deperation I decided to follow it by the hair and set it up presicely like yours. And hey, look at that, the lines got much more recuded!! I have played maybe 4-5 hours with this settings now, and the lines are there BUT -  I gotta look for them to see them. Its no longer what I look at every second I play.

Its one spot in Skyhold that the lines always went nuts: right at the entrance of the throneroom, comming from outside. There is a light on each side there, and at that point, looking into the room, the lines went nuts.

Now its reduced a LOT.

Only times the lines become more dominating is when I have been standing still for long and/or tab out for a longer time. When I move they go back to minimal again.

It is strange anyway tho - as you said uncleanspirit, since it cant be shown on screenshot. That has also wondered me big time. And no, i didnt change that cable...

A note also is that my boyfriend also play DA:I at times and his is fine.

Melissa: A question. Do you use Vsync ingame? And what is your settings ingame concerning Post-process, and multisample antialising?

I also see you got triple buffering off - out of curiousity, what is your reason? I dont know much about that setting, only basics.

Hmmm, I would try using your b/f's monitor and cable and see what happens. It could be an issue with the cable itself.

My in-game settings are set with everything on max, including Fade-Touched textures and 4x MSAA. I use the in-game vsync and never really did anything with triple buffering in the NVIDIA CP. I will try it out and report back to see if I notice a difference.

Thank you Melissa :)

I can try the cable also, yes. Seems strange tho, since all my other games is fine. But I will try it :)

I been testing a lot with settings with fps up. Oddly enough nothing really had much inpact, my pc is strong enough. What dropped the fps most was - oddly enough - shader (the bottom setting) when i put that on highest quality.

Skyrim had a leg up in that Bethesda gave the modders a toolkit built by the developers themselves to make mods and didn't object to any of the content made as long as the modders didn't freely distribute items available only via DLC.

DAI has none of those advantages. So, yeah, it's a heck of a lot harder to mod with it. The fact there are mods at all is, quite frankly, a human-born miracle.

Alright, I got dai mod manager, dai cinematic tools & sweetfx up and running. Some hair mods still won't show up, but at least I'm happy with the long hair mod for now... idk what I think about sweetfx though, most presents are overly agressively contrasted/saturated, and the one I chose "Better Colors Preset" (https://sfx.thelazy....es/preset/2717/) is barely noticeable and does not feature that tasteful "vignette" featured in the author's screenshots.

It's really a trial and error thing and a matter of personal preference. I jump between four different presets with one of the ones you mentioned being one of them.  I posted this earlier but see the link in the spoiler as a quick way to look between my "favorite"  four:

Vignette can be added from DAI cinematic tools or if you are up to it you can be modified in the sweet fx file,  Make sure you set the function to be active and modify these settings to what you like:
