For people who loved origins, how does it compare to Origins?

For people who felt DA2 had a weak story, how does DA:I compare to it?

If faded after DA2 and ME3 endings, is your faith in Bioware restored?

Also, is the game longer or shorter than DA:O not including fetch type filler quests.

I would say inquisition is a decent 6/10 game. If you go in expecting something decent to kill time then it serves its purpose. Hopefully this helps as i found this article reflecting my view quite accurately.

Currently only a few hours in but really enjoying it thus far, certainly ticks all of the boxes as far as I'm concerned.
I'm not interested in comparing and I could not comment on length because I've not finished it yet!
But yeah, barring some initial technical issues, I'm very impressed overall so far.

I'm liking it alot but it misses the story/companion/battle depth that Origins had.

I think the game is a bit shorter than Origins if you exclude the shard/landmark/astrarium quests.

Personally, I wasn't much of a fan of DA2's story and "world" (more like a town than a world) and the ME3 ending didn't bother me that much.

In any case, BioWare did a splendid job of putting Dragon Age back on track, even if it's not like Origins.

Much better then the first 2! Especially the companions who I didn't really like from the other games (except 1 or 2)

Took me 135 hours to beat, but that was including all the extra "fetch quests" that I found.

I think it depends a bit on the character you play. IMO playing as a human was better in DA:O, but playing as an Elf is better in DA:I. Not sure about Dwarves yet. Soundtrack and graphics are superb, gameplay is okay, characters are excellent as usual. Towards the end, the game became a bit tedious, though, because there was just so much to do and I "had to" do everything before advancing the story. :D

Overall I'd give DA:I a 87/100.

Ambitious but deeply flawed. It succeeds in the objective of being vast and beautiful to look at, but it comes at the cost of depth of story and gameplay mechanics; not a good trade off in my estimation. I'd give it 7/10 - good, but no masterpiece. Origins remains the best game in the series by a fair margin.

It's a very good game, just not the masterpiece it could have been.

Great characters, huge maps, looks fantastic balanced with fiddly controls (on PS4) terrible inventory system, and too many fetch quests.

The game seems to have taken a step sideways rather than a step forward. A shame.

I gave it 8/10 on metacritic but I wanted to give it 7.5/10

I hope my criticisms are taken in the right spirit. I love what BW do, and I hope they keep doing it - keep pushing forward guys.

Too big, too much filler, removal of healing results in some weird combat balance, and the combat interface was awful. Still a fine game overall that will eat up many hours of your life that you won't regret.

its a very good game 8/10 in no way a masterpiece
the short story, the crazy amount of fetch quests and a weak villian are definitely my biggest gripes with it

DAO > DAI > DA2; enjoyed all of them.

Was quite pleased that the story wrapped up some threads from DA2, as well as incorporating many things from both prior games. As I have enjoyed DA2. ME3, and SWTOR; no problems besides personal ones with changes to Player designs and the increased use of profanity.

My first campaign was 250+ hrs; currently at 470+ hrs total. The only limitations for me are ones of personal taste (eg; not a fan of DW; am rather poor at playing melee mechanics).

Overall, I liked and enjoyed Inquisition a great deal. Granted the games footprint is a little too large for its own good and much of the ancillary quest content is repetitive and dull, but Inquisition boasts a beautiful world, serviceable central story and outstanding cast of characters. Certainly an improvement on the woeful DA2, though nothing like as compelling as Origins.

Companions aren't as good as in DA2; otherwise, it's on par with Origins.

Not the same as Origins, mind you. Combat and controls are completely different. But the entertainment I got out of it was comparable.

I'm enjoying it, started a 2nd playthrough as soon as I finished the first.  Bioware should have made some of the areas smaller, they seemed to be big for the sake of being big.  They should have put some of that space into better cave, dungeons, mines, towers, etc.

The areas should have had larger level ranges as well, the fact that you could explore an entire area and do everything the first time through made it easy to get side tracked from the main story and become over leveled.  They could have thrown in some multi stage quests with their own storylines to give you something to do in all the unused space, and to make the quests more than common fetch quests.

But I loved the crafting, exploring, race selection (playing a Dalish elf this time, totally different conversations).

Still enjoyed Origins more, but DA:I leagues better than DA2, which is probably the only Bioware game I didn't at least enjoy playing.

DAO > DA 2 > DA 3, time consumer as well as uninteresting compared to even DA2 which I have at least reach the ending before I uninstall.

It's starting to wear on me ever so slightly after about 180 hours total. But... not a problem. Need to make a city elf to bring into a third playthrough, anyway.

Best game they've made since Origins, for me. Absolutely. I think it's terrific.

Origins remains the best game in the series by a fair margin.

You can like a game more than the other for nostalgic reasons or personal preferences, but claiming that DAO does anything objectively better than DAI is rather funny. I'll leave it at that.

---

Considering that people are comparing release DAI to games that have already received patches, expansions, and DLC, I'd say this question goes to show how premature people are in judging the game on the long term.

There won't be a proper "verdict" until the game is firmly established. I'm expecting gameplay patches and story DLCs before I make a final verdict, as should most people.

My personal opinion is that it is that the game does most things great at the moment but is missing a few key features that can only make the game better. I'm expecting those issues to be mostly rectified in the months to come.

You will find the community divided on a consensus about the game. I found it hit all the checkboxes that people were "demanding" Dragon Age go towards after Dragon Age 2, but there are people are upset at that direction.  I did get tired of a couple of the side quests because searching for all the shards wasn't too much fun for me, but after skipping them the game became fun again.  There are some zones feel like they have a better flow then others, the funny thing is none of the zones left me with nearly as much negativity as lets say The Fade or The Deep Roads from Dragon Age: Origins, but I definitely had "I want to be done here" feeling near the end of exploring a couple.  I think the biggest complaint that I have seen about the game and see to be more then personal taste is the PC KB/M controls, but after spending time learning and customizing them I don't find them to be a problem.

I definitely had "I want to be done here" feeling near the end of exploring a couple.

I felt this a little when I was doing zones that I had completely skipped and ended up being overleveled for most of the relevant content on my first playthrough.

My solution was to ration most zones over time on subsequent play-throughs rather than do them individually and independently.

That way you can experience all zones and complete their plots, then return later to tie up loose ends if you want.

The path that I find most logical in terms of story progression and most fun in terms of gameplay goes like this:

Spoiler

Of course that's just my approach and something else entirely can work for you. That's what's so great about the DAI zone levels. There are dozens of ways to complete the game. I just find the "exhaust every zone in one go" to be the one most likely to leave you exhausted as well.

The Fade was one of my favorite parts of the game, this time around. I was amazed. It was so sad, and so engaging. Compared to DAO, where... once I got it on the PC, the first mod I installed was the Skip mod. And, as a result, I haven't played through the fade since sometime in 2011.

Thinking on it though, I really think there's something off about the leveling pacing and/or the difficulty. I very deliberately tried not to over level for main quests in my second playthrough, but if you do even a little bit of extra stuff, it's so easy to shoot past the level requirements and trivialize the challenges and loot you find.

I don't precisely know what they did in DAO or DA2, and if and how things scaled with you, but  those two games were reasonably challenging all the way through, particularly Origins. I did my first DAI run as a bow rogue on normal, and my second as a rift mage on hard. Neither was particularly difficult (the only things that made me sweat with the mage were fighting dragons at level). But in retrospect, I am a little disappointed at comparative the lack of difficulty. We'll try nightmare next, I suppose.

Top three games of the year.

For people who loved origins, how does it compare to Origins?

I enjoyed them equally, for the most part.

For people who felt DA2 had a weak story, how does DA:I compare to it?

Worse. DA2 had a good concept and awful execution, Inquisition's didn't please me in either aspect.

Also, is the game longer or shorter than DA:O not including fetch type filler quests.

Not sure. I feel it's a tiny bit longer, but I don't quite recall DA:O's length.

I like the game.

Not as good as DAO but if they do a few patches to improve the game with some good DLC’s to improve the story i see no reason why it could not be as good as DAO.

For people who felt DA2 had a weak story, how does DA:I compare to it?
DA2 did not have a weak story it had a very weak story so DAI has a much better story.

As i said DA2 had no story and i was fine with the ME3 story but my faith is the same as before so make that what you will.

The story is shorter than in DAO without the filler quests but you can play the game how you want so it is up to you how the play develops in the game.

I'm loving it, not as good as Origins perhaps but still I've put so many hours into this so I obviously love it.  One of my favourite games in recent memory.

I like it a lot despite not being what I was expecting... at all. Not finished but it's a very good experience so far. Best Bioware game since ME2 and one of the best modern open world game since RDR and SR2.

Loving the exploration and the scope of the experience. The story and the cast is solid. I'm living the fantasy and getting sucked in by the experience.

I just don't know what to make out of the combat. Honestly I had problems with the previous games too in that regard but DA:I is the most confusing experience of the series. It seems like an obstacle that gets in the way of the fun stuff more than a challenge or a stylistic experience that sets the mood and express the progress of your charachter.

I tried playing with the tactical camera and kb/m but I wasn't comfortable with the setting even if I love tactical games: it felt to me like what I was getting in return wasn't really worth the effort of toying with the angles.

So I switched to the gamepad and actiony/real time gameplay. The experience improved but still... I don't know... something feels off. I mean... I'm having a good time but it's not smooth. The party seems more a distraction then a resource and the whole experience feels messy and chaotic.

Maybe it's just me but I think that it's the whole third person action- crpg party based combat hybrid that do not work so well...

All in all it's a very good and ambitious game: a solid foundation for Bioware's future projects. I just hope they can fix combat and find a better balance.

PS: it's not possible to compare DA:O and DA:I. They are very different gaming experiencess... I would say even different genres.

Do you like it? Hate it?

i do like it. it has some serious issues, but all in all it's a decent game. not GotY material (i hate UI/controls/tac-cam implementation, minor things that distract me from playing it), yet it's still engaging.

7/10

For people who loved origins, how does it compare to Origins?

it's different. it's a story oriented experience more than it is a game

For people who felt DA2 had a weak story, how does DA:I compare to it?

i like DA2 story, the problem is i was unable to affect it. here... there is greater freedom of choice; another thing is that world recognizes PC's actions, but the PC isn't as free willed as he/she was in DA:O

If faded after DA2 and ME3 endings, is your faith in Bioware restored?

not faded. and i've never liked ME franchise much. the story is what matters, not the ending... what is most disappointing about this game for me is

1. unchallenging combat - it's not improved upon previous titles/feedback

2. lack of meaningful evil/cruel choices - that limits replayability for me, i don't care about being pragmatic, i want to be a drooling sociopath at least in one of my PTs, there should be punishment, sure, but at least give me the option. i don't want to play your character, i want to create my own - and i don't mean "character creator"

3. forced choices - why cannot i fight certain NPC? the fight should be almost impossible to win, but it should be possible to engage it; it's a semi-open world, why the story forbids me from exploring certain areas?

Also, is the game longer or shorter than DA:O not including fetch type filler quests

it's... different. i think it's similar lenght
