The final verdict on DAI is that it's worse than DA2... It's no my verdict, it's the general opinion on this forum. It's quite ironic after so many years of expectations and hoping.

My verdict is that it's a good game that could have been a lot better if certain features from the previous games were not ditched. But yes.. simplification and idiocracy is always the way to go nowdays. It sells well..

DA2 is so bad I don't recognize it even exists. It's the Star Wars prequels of DA.

DA:I is far, far better than DA2. Other than that, I agree with you.

My verdict is that DAI is a great game hampered by bugs, horrible programming and weird PC controlls.

DAI is very good, and it's totally worth it.

For your first playthrough, though, you have to make a decision: do you have to see everything, do every little quest(risking you'd get bored, because the game is HUGE) - or skip some of the content, but enjoy yourself every step of the way?

If you choose the latter, I'd do this: keep doing the main quests and the quests for your companions as soon as you meet level/power requirements. It's easy enough, it keeps you interested, and the main path is really, really worth it.

Oh, and do watch that scene after the ending credits.

You have this huge open-world and that's good but sadly, it's not where they can shine. I think that the open-world is killing the game for me, I just love it everytime I get some linear mission but when I have to explore that world ? So annoying...

But outside of that, I love it for the gameplay alone. The new Tactical View is awesome, I played the first one on PC and it's way easier to do some Tactical Combat on the Xbox One. Then, you have all that amazing stuff. Great characters, good story ( I liked it, what hurts is that power thing ) and a good thing that we finally get to see Orlais.

It was bad.. but the writing wasn't. After the outrage of the ME3 ending, Bioware played it safe with the decisions in this game and that's why the story and character interactions are so bland. No one dies... no one questions you, there is no rivalry, everyone kisses your a** all the time.

Pretty much yeah. Get the largest possible demographic by superficially catering to "everyone".

It is a criminally bland game, but offends no one. Takes no chances, makes no waves. It is 100% safe.

Agree with that. At some point it was just annoying that every second npc told me how awesome/great/powerful I am  and how happy people are that I will save them/their fanily/the world.I actually counted it at the beginning how many times people adored my Inqusitor but stopped aftter a while because perceived in every second conversation (including non-companion npcs) someone tried to kiss my a**.

I think that this " Let's satisfy everybody" approach is the worst the design decision a gaming company can make... It doesn't f***g work and sadly DAI falls victim to it.  While I hated the ME3 endings, I respected them for having the balls to actually do it that way. They knew what they'll gonna get if they go down that path and they went for it.

Funny... I actually tried to save everybody in Haven when Cory attacked, but most of them left the Inquisition regardless...So whether they are dead or alive doesn't matter because they leave either way.  Minaeve and Adan left.

Great questions.

My opinions are based on my experiences with origins, DA2, & Awakening et.al.

I have played & loved almost all of Biowares' games, but only a few EA games (Sims, Monopoly).

I like Bioware for it's thoughtful, in depth story offerings.

That said:

DAI graphics are better than the previous games.....which they should be in 2014

However, character hands and feet do not stay above desks & stairs or floors or even "solid" ground sometimes
The previous in-depth character menu for control in combat has been scrapped for some top view chess game looking system.

Must have been EA's input (Monopoly).

The maps are bigger, but they are not "open" inho.

Party banter is good when it works.

Romance is awful compared to origins. Geared for the kindergarten set perhaps?

Loot drops bloat my inventory with junk like silver nug foot charms and low level weapons & armour.

Skyhold upgrades should have had more impact.

There is still rubble in most of the towers and holes in roofs and walls after upgrade completion.

Val Royeaux is available yet my fem quizzy cannot buy clothes or shoes???????

She's stuck in a leisure suit or a uniform for an imperial court masquerade ball.

Why can't my fem walk like vivienne? She walks like a lumberjack with constipation.

Hoping for a patch to fix sound issues,

Would like dlc to clean/repair skyhold, and offer shops in Val Royeaux to change hairstyles & clothes.

I understand that these games are made for profit, but damn... either live up to the hype or tone down the marketing.

Origins was the best for story, banter, companions, romance, combat control, & crafting, but the maps were small.

DA2 had a great look and the rest, but the maps were awful.

I was just hoping for a better mix of old & new.

There are things about it that I like very much, but I'm withholding final judgment until it's patched, as constantly having to reboot is undoubtedly affecting my response to the game.

I'm enjoying (most of) the characters very much, but would really like subtler dialogue choices, particularly regarding the mage-templar conflict. It's an interesting dilemma, that would be much more interesting with more nuanced options. I'd also like for there to be fewer surprises when my character opens her mouth, i.e. for the dialogue choices to give me a clearer notion of content and tone.

I really miss healing spells and find mage combat generally disappointing. I hate the auto-refilling of healing potions. I like the guard mechanic, but dislike putzing with positioning both for looting and combat. I do not find that  the absence of auto-attack makes combat more engaging.

I hope that next time out they will make resource nodes, chests, letters, etc. a little more eye-catching so that it's not necessary to lead the player around by their nose, constantly pressing the search key and having EVERYTHING marked on the mini-map. Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised that the folks who told Game Informer that they didn't see a purpose for a storage chest don't "get" exploration, either, but I hope to see things done differently next time out. Indeed, I'm willing to cut them some slack for DAI. It's not surprising that there would be some stumbling developing a slightly different kind of game using a new engine.  That said, the world is beautiful and well populated with points of interest. The surf off the Storm Coast is spectacular.

Hairstyles and clothing are lacking, especially for female characters. Skyhold would also be MUCH more enjoyable if my character could sit down on her sofa to read codex entries.

In summary, it's been hit and miss. I greatly like much of the content, the mechanics not so much.

I actually felt embarrassed for Varric. The guy keeps spouting chantry crap and actually believes pc is a spare jeebus. What the heck happened to you Varric, you used to be cool?

Definitely my GOTY.

The bugs, the weird PC controls and other problems pointed by the community were not enough to take away my fun.

I enjoyed it very very much.

I'm waiting for improvements and expanding the story.

Multiplayer is a nice addition to the game.

Do you like it? Hate it?

For people who loved origins, how does it compare to Origins?

For people who felt DA2 had a weak story, how does DA:I compare to it?

If faded after DA2 and ME3 endings, is your faith in Bioware restored?

Also, is the game longer or shorter than DA:O not including fetch type filler quests.

I like it.

I don't agree DA:O, DA2 and DA:I are rightly compared as if they were competing. Each is told by a different storyteller. Each has its own excellences and issues. I liked all three, but each was different. Each is good standing for itself and each contributes robustly to what can now be seen as a campaign.

With DA:I Bioware restored a bit of my trust in them as storytellers. My analysis of the plot of the Mass Effect franchise convinced me that ME:3 was truncated. The plot did not end naturally. The later DLC ... well, I need to replay that series now to adequately factor it. But DA:I has restored some of that trust which may, after all, have been a case of pedestalry (I may have had Bioware on a Pedestal unsuited to mortals).

I have hundreds of hours played already. I wish they had some DLC ready, but better that they take their time and do it rightly.

There are issues. The device disconnected DX11 error is chronic (I run PC). The tactical map is too cumbersome to use unless I really cannot get around it. The lack of healing magic is a hindrance but, okay, I am still enjoying the play. But it is so vast that I am also approaching in a very relaxed manner, as if long-distance running rathr than sprinting. Both modes have their uses, but we don't generally sprint 26 miles.

I loved Origins, this is DAI, a different game in the same universe, no way not to like it

DA2's story was different, more focused on personal things...and had some strong points. DAI is epic save the world again. Both are different, I like it

ME3's ending will always make me cringe and feel pain about bioware, because all I see is the wasted opportunity to create an awesome story for a promising franchise, I don't think any game will ever put that right. ME could have been awesome, they dropped it with ME2 already ... so not restored fully ... yet ...

I consider it longer, but my interpretation of "fetch-quest" also might be different than some others

Could be better, could be worse © Hawke

DAO still is my favourite. I think story is weaker than DA2 (i like da2 storytelling more than dao). I don't care much for Inquisitor, like i did for my Hawkes and Wardens, probably because dialogues, cutscenes and choices are buried under the fetch stuff. Unfortunately. I couldn't complete second playthrough. My first playthrough was fully complete at 125 hours. I have at least 10 playthroughs of every previous Bioware games (including older ones), so this is kinda symptomatic for me.
Overall I liked the game and enjoyed it. The main story feels shorter than DAO and DA2.
My fate was destroyed after me3 ending and I doubt it will be ever restored. I still care though, thats why i'm here. I probably will preoder and buy next game.
My personal GOTY is Divinity Original Sin and Lichdom Battlemage. Playing Skyrim with mods right now :)

I thought DA2 was bad but I've come to conclusion that DAI beats it. It's not because it would actually be worse than DA2 was (in most part), but because in all it's grandiose bluster it leaves me with a shallow and forgettable feeling. The MMO hack'n slash button mashing combined with Skyrim type herb/stone collecting with pointless fetch quests being my biggest gripe.

It's a massive improvement over DA2. The customization is good, gameplay is better but more work needs to be put into side quests and the world next time. Apart from the customization and gameplay, the game felt like Skyrim with its empty world which isn't a good thing. It's no good having open regions if they aren't populated with quality content. At least each region was unique which is more than can be said for the bland world of Skyrim...

I love this game, its my number two all time favourite after origins. Origins was my favourite for so many years.

I loved with origins how the modders added things I really felt lacked  and that added to my enjoyment, being able to download new hairstyles and armours and hugs for Alistair.

Inquisition is wonderful, has lovely characters, a great optimistic theme (I love being a hero and so amazing) and a happy ending with a bit of a 'cliffhanger' to keep me a bit intrigued but not annoyed as my hero still gets her happy ever after with Cullen, that last scene on the balcony....wonderful ...

I would nearly say that the romance with Cullen is better than the Alistair romance, for me Cullen is more manly, sweet and definitely hot. The scenes were really well done and I got the dance scene, the hug scenes and lots of important 'moment' scenes, this is what I love in a well written romance. You need those 'moments'

Alistair was cute but not totally manly as he was prone to complaining and crying a lot. I still loved his funniness and his romance though.

I was very 'faded' after ME3 and DA2. So yes to some extent I feel that Bioware really pushed the boat out with this game. In fact I think they did a fabulous job! It was a huge undertaking and done very very well. I know many have been affected by day one bugs and wouldn't agree but I remember Skyrim's release. Omg it was full of bugs and glitches. The modders there fixed a lot in the first few months. They continue to add to and improve that game.

I'm really hoping Bioware consider releasing some type of toolset or modding system for this game as it would be perfect then, the modders do stuff we all want. I love getting new hairs and clothes and other great stuff like storage and little shops.

For me this game takes a lot longer to play through than origins, I could be wrong. But I wouldn't have a problem with a more story driven linear game like origins. It does keep the game very immersive. However I also enjoyed the big sunny pretty places in Inquisition. I loved the keep and making it more beautiful by updating the furnishings and gardens.

I think perhaps in an ideal world, such a massive game as Inquisition should have a huge range of 'stuff' to find, schematics, weapon designs and useful things for the home.

I think the motivation in exploration games for me is what loot will I get to either sell or wear. I think there is a shortage of great shops too. Usually modders would fill the shortfall as they have in Skyrim we haven't got that for this game so ideally Bioware should have had a lot of great stuff.

However despite that I still love this game and am still playing it since release. Thank you Bioware Staff

I love the game. It's not perfect and it needs some more optimization and bug-killing. I think another lesson they could take from this to make the next game better is that an open world is great but they don't need to cram it with so many filler quests. I could have stood a beefier main story for this one. That said the characters in this game, and how deep they are, make this one the best of the series for me.
