the last crash blew my motherboard, it still works but network card and other on board things are busted. Not only am i out $50 from buying this game but it ruined a $3000 computer that is no longer in warranty. To say the least I am outraged

Ruined a MOBO? My best geuss was that it was a driver issue that was briking GPUs. How did it blow the MOBO?

3000 dollar computer? Jesus man, you planning on hacking NASA or something?

Anyway, I do agree that bioware should atleast shown sign of life, it's frustrating that buying the legal game punishes you with crashing

So I just got done running the game in windowed mode while monitoring system temps.

Seemed to be fine. All my temps are running well within the norm.

I watched GPU activity while I played, and I noticed a nice spike every time I went into a conversation. (Still within the norm, but noticeable increase in activity)

This is usually where the game locks on me, black screen, and force a hard reboot. (Screams driver issue).

Sometimes I will get further through a conversation, sometimes less. Every once in a while I can get through it, but lockup on the next big cutscene or conversation..

The whole time system temps are norm for me. Lots of activity, but no more than any other high end game. (Dragon Age, Crysis, Midieval2, ect)

Tried multiple versions of video drivers (including most current)

Tried multiple versions of audio drivers (again, including current)

All chipset drivers are up to date.

I even threw in a new hard drive and installed a fresh copy of windows 7.

Multiple Mass Effect 2 installs (using both my disks and roomate's disks)

Still same issue. I'm about to just give up.

Hopefully a patch will come out soon to address this issue.

Until then, looks like I'm stuck staring at a box on my shelf..

If anyone manages to fix this nightmare issue, please post it!

Oh, and maybe we should post more of our system specs to find some kind of common denominator?

Mine doesn't even BSOD or black screen, it HARD BOOTS itself! Not happy about that. Can easily screw your windows install. I play pretty much every new game that comes out. ME2 is the ONLY one doing this! Have to try the ATI fix.

I too am having issues.

Win7 64

AMD X64 4400+

8800GTS

2GB

I was running the game fine for several hours when I first played it. Now I'm about 12 hours into the game and it crashes in 1 of 3 similar ways about every 10-15 mins.

The process is:

The problem occurs at random. About 30% of the time it's during major display changes like conversation, cut scenes, or bringing up an interface like a hack screen or upgrades panel. The sound loops fast and video hangs -> screen goes black briefly -> video comes back and remains frozen and sound continues normally.

After this, the 3 outcomes are:

1. BSOD, hard boot

2. Crash to desktop, with no errors apart from the usual Win7 one about unexpected blah blah.

3. Ctrl+Alt+Del to pull up Admin pane, then Task Manager to force explorer on top, then end the process.

I'm running latest drivers and all that. Only known issues with my computer and other games are some minor sound ones that have existed since I built the thing but I just don't care about. They've never effected anything before.

It seems the crashing just happends randomly (time wise) considering the amount of people telling all sorts of time when they crash. Mine was really early

I think we can safely say the crashing has NOTHING to do with anyones CPU, GPU, RAM, OS or make and model of car. The problem is ME2.

Then how would you explain other games crashing out? The problem has moved on to DirectX for me.

Hi Every one!
I have the same problem, i got vertical gray bars when I pley the game, take like 2 or 3 min and the computer hangs and I have to press the Reset button.

I have the same issue with Batman the new one and boderlands, and now Mass Effect 2
Well I think is the Unreal Engine that have a issue with my Ati Raedon 4850 512 RAM cuz all the games that I named are running on that engine.

I dont think its a video card problem cuz all my other games like Call
of Duty modern warfare 2 run perfect never crash

Bioware HELP!

Hey,

Just thought I would add my two cents in here, I am getting pretty much the same problem as everyone else here is (screen locks up and sound goes all distorted forcing a hard reset about every 30 minutes) my specs are:

Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Nvidia 8800GT

6GB RAM

Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz

I also had this problem with mass effect 1 which leads me to believe that its not my system but the engine the games are on.

Any help with this from Bioware would be appreciated please!

It might be a coincidence but i read something about heat issues, after installing ME2 i could play for several hours no problem but then all of a sudden my pc stopt working and could not even reboot.
Looked like a heat issue and i read here about the videocards so i decided to put my other card in.
No problems with pc anymore no start up problems, to make sure i then put my "broken"card back in and all worked fine again, so my guess was that my videcard wasnt broken at all.

But just this morning started playing again, case open and fan blowing in to make sure, and bam heavy crash and all weird colors, defenatly looked like my videcard is fried.

I am goint to try my other videocard again see if that works, i might even play the game again but if this happens again in am not touching ME2 anymore.

sry bad english ;)

E 6600 dual
2 gig ddr
win xp
nvidia 9800 gtx (broken i think)

p.s If i have to buy a videocard, is a nvidia gtx275 a step up from my old 9800 gtx?

I know my cpu should be upraded to have the best effect but if i need a new card is a gtx275 a good option?
