I thought it would be a nice idea to have a thread for those extra special screenshots you've taken that push the art of screenarchery to its absolute best.

This isn't for shots you took during normal cutscenes that we've all seen a million times before, pictures of that one time Hawke glitched through the floor, or shots of your characters in the CC, etc. There are endless threads on the forums for showcasing your Inquisitor or your Warden or your favourite romance and battle scenes. This thread is for something more special. You've definitely removed the HUD, you're thinking about light and composition. You very definitely have not done any post-processing in Photoshop or similar to the screenshot - what we see is what you saw on your screen in your game. This is what you aspire to, whether you manage it or not (I know I certainly don't).

This is the best of your best. This is where video games become art.

To preserve everyone's sanity, please don't post more than 4-5 shots in any one post (unless they are part of a narrative set that have to be shown together). Don't put them in spoiler tags - we want to see them proudly on the page*. Be selective.

It goes without saying, there may be spoilers. Continue at your own risk.

There is a very good thread here that has some tips for taking better screenshots in DAI. Some of them may be transferrable to DA2 and DAO, but not all.

*Because of this, the page will take some time to load as it is image-heavy. If you are on slower connections, consider opening the thread and leaving it to load while you browse elsewhere.

How are you guys able to turn off the onscreen info? I'd share some great shots if I knew how. My shots are all caps from cutscenes.

There's a link in the first post to a thread that has a good amount of tips on how to get good quality shots. Here it is again.

In the meantime, there are two ways to hide the HUD (heads up display):

1) open the console (using the ` key or whatever is above your tab key on your keyboard) > type "UI.DrawEnable 0" and hit enter (without quote marks; repeat the same steps but using 1 instead of 0 to turn the HUD back on). You can't use the console if you use a controller.

2) download and run DAI Cinematic Tools. This is the best option. You can hide the HUD quickly and easily by pressing DEL. You also gain complete control over the camera, meaning you can unlock it from your character and fly it around wherever you want using numpad keys. You can also use this tool if you use a controller instead of m&kb. As well as camera control, you also get access to various visual tools available in the frostbite engine (tonemapping, dof, character lighting, colour control, fog), and can change shadow map resolution and LOD distance on the fly. There is a ReadMe included in the download.

Like I said in the first post, ideally this thread isn't for shots of cutscenes since we've all seen those a million times over in our own games. Hopefully with these tools you'll be able to take some beautiful shots of the rest of the world BW created :)

I wish bioware would have done something like Bethesda did with console commands because I am a huge screen archer for Skyrim. I've probably got over 300,000 pics on my computer that I took in game. I did not know about that cinematic tool and will certainly give that a try. There has been so many times I wished I could free roam the camera because the game is just so beautiful.

Will that tool allow you to pause the scene to take an action shot? like how the commant "tfc 1" freezes the scene in Skyrim to allow for great action shots.

Sadly there is no way (to my knowledge) to pause cutscenes in DA:I. The only way to "pause" is when the scene stops with a conversation wheel.

These shots were made before discovering SweetFX and the Cinematic Tool, so it could be better. Also, my graphics aren't up to date.

That dragon shield is great for shots like that. I got some similar ones of Cass (pre-SRWE, I think it was my first or second outing with DAI CinTools too):

Emprise is a beautiful area. The lighting is superb. No lyrium here (apart from the hint of it across the bridge in picture 2), but I love the contrast of the red against the cold blues in Emprise.

Nice pics here!  Looking thru my screenshot folder I can see that I tend to favor portraits and shots that tell a story or set a mood.  l7lkDCw.png Still figuring out how to position the camera with DAI Cinematic Tools.

A nice tight closeup of Coryphy-thingy

I'm not sure what it is about this three-shot of Varric Cass and the Inquisitor that I like, but I do

m6VEmrx.png This last one I really wish that I had dropped the camera down a bit but I like the atmosphere.jWZuoTp.png I'm still learning how to get the shot I want.  I just finished my first dragon fight and only realized at the end as she was dying that I hadn't gotten any shots of the fight.  D'oh!

Very nice shots, guys. I like your portrait shots, Melissa.

It's taken me 3 days to kill the 3 dragons in Emprise, because I've spent most of that time paused messing with srwe and dai cinematic tools ^^

After spending so long in Emprise by the time I got to the last dragon (which is my favourite so far - so beautiful and classically dragon-like) I started to mess a bit more drastically with the colour controls. I like what I ended up with. It reminds me of fantasy book covers.
