Through a strange series of events, I have DAI for both my 360 and PC. I have been playing on my 360, and I keep marveling at how gorgeous the game is. Then I see pictures like these, and think I need to abandon my 100+ hour playthrough and get on my PC. But, I only have 3 more dragons to go for the achievement, so I guess I'll continue on with the game, though with less joy - and I blame all of you!!! ![]()
That said, I wonder if I will be able to learn to take screenshots...people have been so generous with their knowledge on this thread, if I can't it will be my own darn fault. ![]()

I adore this. I love it when things like that happen. This was one of my favourite Skyrim screenshots - I clipped through the wall behind some glowing mushrooms, so it looked like they were a fleet of jellyfish swimming forward. Weird and creative shots like that are always my favourite. I'm yet to do anything like that in DAI, but perhaps inverting the camera would give more opportunity.
Thank you.
That Skyrim shot is also very nice, they do look like jellyfish. I also perused the rest of your albums. You have some very nice shots there. I especially like the Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas albums. Oblivion was the first game I remember taking screens of but I lost them all when my laptop tanked. Sorry for the off-topic, but how did you get Fallout looking so grimy/lovely?

Come to the Dark PC side. We have mods
.
As for learning to take screenshots, easy peasy. Learning to take good screenshots is an on-going process. The folks on this thread are very very helpful and supportive. Just a warning though, It will extend the time it takes to complete the game by weeks or months. Possibly longer.
Also, while you are heroically battling those last 3 dragons, you could be taking lovely screenshots to commemorate the moment ![]()

Pretty much what Fenphile said. I am a novice compared to what other post on this thread. Finish your game on the xbox then come over and take your time and really take your time on your next time on the PC. You will be amazed at all of the little things n the game that you missed.

Yep, as others have said, just gotta start playing with it! I love this thread because a lot of times -- and it's a little silly -- but these things can get snobby and cliquish. The really talented folks here are also really helpful, though.
And seeing some of these incredible shots is encouragement to work on my own.
The more the merrier imo. ![]()
@ruggly: Your wolf statue ... that light looks so soft. Really like that one in particular.
EDIT: Ooh, and @Rannah: Been meaning to mention awhile, but I adore the pic of your lady in this post. The mood is just ... wow.

Thanks, I kind of messed with the fog setting and ended up lucky with that one.
In regards to taking screen shots, I just do it for fun, not that good compared to others but they've been very helpful with posting tips and such.

I still have F:NV installed on my computer, but Skyrim got uninstalled some time ago. I put over 2000 hours into it, and it was taking up something like 200GB of space with the install, mods, and screenshots I had archived. I'm itching to reinstall it though.
The biggest difference to the F:NV shots is this ENB. It's my favourite by far. I use a bunch of texture packs all available at Nexus as well, but not half as much as I used to use for Skyrim. If you haven't used an ENB before, it's like SweetFX on steroids. It has a lot more control and capability than SFX, for example it includes DOF control (since most games don't come with their own handy Cinematic Tools to use!), SSAO, controls over interior and exterior lighting independent from one another, some of the more advanced binaries (each game requires a binary to make ENB work - so for the most part you can't just use an ENB with any game, it has to be made compatible first since it hooks into the game's engine) allow day/night tweaking independently as well, and Skyrim binaries separate that out even more to sunset/sunrise as well. It's incredibly powerful, but it can also be incredibly costly performance-wise. A lot of screenshotters who take the hobby super-serious regularly play with 15-20 fps, and drop even lower when downsampling. I've played through the entirety of Skyrim at ~20fps, and regularly dropped down to 13-17, and learned to adapt accordingly. I couldn't dream of downsampling though, I don't have the hardware, especially not now the ENBs have become far more sophisticated since I last played. An ENB can be performance-friendly though, depending on the settings. SSAO and DOF are heavy hitters, but can be toggled off during normal gameplay. Depending on the settings, sharpening and bloom can hit hard too, and any other atmospheric effects that are included. But people often put out a performance version if their regular version is very scary, and there are a few things you can tweak yourself to lighten the load. It's a good deal more involved to tweak yourself, and I'd recommend just installing and leaving be until you became more familiar with it. Unless you like a challenge, in which case jump right in!

A handful from today. I've started playing in 21:9 because I really suck at wide shots in this game, and I'm hoping it'll train my eye to see things that might work at that AR (or wider; I also have profiles for 3:1 set up). Since it means I'm playing with less pixels than at 16:9 I've bumped up a couple of settings, most notably vegetation now at ultra - I'm doing okay in The Hinterlands so far, so hopefully I'll be able to keep it like that.
Anyway, nothing exciting in these shots, just a little mess around closing the rift by Redcliffe Farm, etc.
I titled this "In which Solas tries on a new disguise..." - heh
Aaaand back to portrait AR because reasons *hugs it like a security blanky*

I have recently reinstalled both games, but could not force myself to get all the mods I had before (lost a lot of saves and pictures, *cry*). With DA:I, I don't even feel the urgency to play again....maybe later.
Honestly I really don't mind playing round 20 fps if the game runs relatively smoothly (don't like to watch cartoons, though). I got used to it when I played a lot MMO games back in their early days. It was not a surprise to play at lower fps due to connection issues, PC performance, etc....even had some funny moments because of this.

Thanks for the info.
I was using Grim and Somber-Malacath in Skyrim so I have some experience with ENB. However anytime I added ENB into FNV I would get weird visual artifacts like being able to see trees and vegetation thru the landscape. I had really just started trying to get my Fallout all modded up (mod-aholic here) when Inquisition came out. Your screenies made me want to get them running again. Alas, not enough time in the day.
As to whether I like a challange, I'm pretty sure I spent far more time modding Skyrim, than playing it. I'm weird that way.
On a different note: I would like to see more of the landscape shots personally. With a wider field, choosing where to take the shot from becomes a bigger part of the creative process IMO. I like both of the wider shots above.

ngh, everyone has been taking such beautiful pictures!
Rannah - that Cole portrait!! It's iconic. I love the shadowing and that I can just see his eye glinting through. The other two pictures are gorgeous as well, I particularly love that middle one ![]()
Sarielle - that place is beautiful, and you've framed that wonderfully. I've seen a lot of pictures shot straight on, from the door facing out, but this angle along with your character's posture looks really inquisitive - which is very fitting!
drake2511 - wow, what breathtaking shots. That picture of Vivienne is lovely, with all those flowers at her feet. I really like the action shot of Blackwall as well - it has a great feeling of him having moved across the frame in the heat of battle.
ruggly - I always love pictures of Leli. You've captured some nice detail in her face, and I like the heavy shadowing - well suited for her mysterious role!

Love this shot of Viv - she's the only one that looks good with her headgear. I keep helmets turned off because I can't stand them on other characters (other than Qunari). If I could find decent helmets for rogues and warriors I would keep them turned on!
Finally created my 2h warrior soon-to-be-Reaver...can't wait to start getting good shots with her!

Re: combat shots -- I really like taking them, I find them a lot easier in this game than scenic shots. It's interesting how we each of us find different things easy or more natural. I enjoyed taking scenic shots in Skyrim, but my brain won't see them properly in DA:I! I keep trying though, it's the only way to get better, right?
Melissa - your reaver looks lovely! My Ejder Adaar is going to be a reaver. I'm enjoying 2H combat so far, although I've not done much killing. Nearly 50 hours in and... well, *ahem* I've done almost nothing but take some screenshots. We're all still level 5.

And a bonus shot of an outlaw who just realised how big the qunari Herald is...
(Also, I've just changed the board theme to dark and omgoodness it's a lot better to view screenshots against.)
