Hello again everyone!

First off, I'm such an amateur at this and I really want to learn from you guys! (A not-so-secret admirer here  )

I've been playing around with the CT and have some questions regarding the "Bloom" function. It seems to affect all light sources in an image. I'm wondering if I could choose which part it affects? I usually find my images too dreamy and not crisp enough because of it.

After fumbling around for 15mins or so, I managed to only brighten up the staff and Spirit Blade, leaving the torch mostly untouched. I don't know how I did it.

*snip*

But in this case everything is Bloomed, even the sun ray on the floor, and I have no idea how to adjust the effects to my liking,

*snip*

(Bloom Scale is the only effect applied to the above images.)

If anyone would be kind enough to give me just a little bit of insight on this, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

As far as I know in DAI Tools, you can not localize Bloom. It applies to the whole picture.

Ok, so these images were taken using custom resolutions with NVIDIA control panel. No SRWE used. I'm in the process of updating my game and will report back on if they still work afterwards:

*snip*

They should work, but honestly, who knows after all this mess? . This method greatly relies on what your monitor is capable of - for example, mine can not handle 3840x2160.

That's disappointing - after updating, changing resolutions via NVIDIA control panel no longer works. The only way I found to take high res shots is to create custom resolutions and then use the in-game options to switch to them. It's very annoyingly painful to do, but technically it does the job. The huge caveat here is that you won't be able to get high res shots in cutscenes without playing those cutscenes at that res - which also means no changing aspect ratios unless you want to reload and play it again on that specific resolution.

And it only works in fullscreen mode.

Some high-rez shots on Patch 6 - my process was this:

  • Create custom resolutions via NVIDIA control panel
  • Fire up DA:I and put into fullscreen mode
  • Pause Game
  • Engage flycam and frame shot roughly to what you would like, as well as Cinematic Tools settings
  • While game is still paused, open up in-game Display settings and change to any of your custom resolutions
  • Finish tweaking shot
  • Take Screenshot
  • Open up in-game Display settings again and change back to 1080p

This is very painful, but it got the job done. Cutscenes are another matter entirely, as they would play on my system at ~5fps @ 2160p. If you are on AMD, I have no idea how this process would translate. If anybody can think of anything better, please please post that method here!

With the last patch the game won't just rerender automatically until you move the DAI window but when you do so the size remains limited by your workspace resolution.

Here is my method if I want ultra high res screenshots (which relies on multiple monitors, in my case 1440p & 2*1080p)

1. I can set up the layout like this (sometimes I don't use DSR at all or only 2 monitors) :

layout.jpg

The layout can be different if I want panoramic or something else and it is still possible to make change while playing (modify the resolution/layout etc)

Another example :

layout2.jpg

12800x7200... *cough* :bandit:

2. Run the game in windowed mode and use SRWE to adjust the resolution, when it is ok I just move the game window, wait for the render & tada

Anyway I don't take my screenshots in 5120x7200 or more with the resolution scale command (except if I want to transform my computer in mister freeze) so I often leave my main monitor in native resolution for a better clarity, so far works fine for me.

So maybe it's just because I'm having a morning brain freeze, but I thought everybody has been saying that the game won't re-render anymore?

What I have is a 1080p monitor that can support custom resolutions up to 2160p. So what you're saying is that if I engage the 2160p resolution on the fly, SRWE will then work to re-render the game window to that? Or am I not following...

It will re-render when you move the game windows, after you resized. Otherwise it'll still appear pixelated/stretched.

This is why you need a large workspace resolution, because at the moment you move a window that exceed your workspace resolution, your OS will resize it to match the workspace resolution (yup, this is bad for us) ;)

So what you're saying is that if I engage the 2160p resolution on the fly, SRWE will then work to re-render the game window to that?

Yes, you can try. Launch the game in windowed mode, with your monitor in 2160p (or change the resolution on the fly) then resize the game window and move it :)

Gotcha, I was able to get it to work, however the largest I could get it to take was 3836 x 2133 (rather than 3840 x 2160). I'm assuming that's because of the borders on the window? Is there any way to get it to the nice even size?

Also, is there any way to be able to do this and not be forced to play with an oogly windowed border?

Yes. I think there is an option in SRWE to remove the border, didn't try though.

In "windows styles", "WS_BORDER" maybe. If you remove the border I'm not sure you can move the window after that

That's the problem - once I remove the border I can't move the window anymore, and I can't figure out how to get the border back.

Playing the game with borders would tweak my gourd. If I could figure out how to get the border back then that would be cool.

Just found it

In "general" : remove borders to suppress them

If you want them back, in "Window Styles", tick WS_BORDER & WS_DLGFRAME

Thanks, that does work. However, I can't for the life of me figure out how to get a shot without it losing some pixels due to the frame. Even if I hit "remove borders" and "fake full screen," the shot still loses the same amount of pixels. At least now I can get the border back!

Thank you all for the advices for a workaround. I think I rather stay at Patch 5 as long as possible (currently no intention to buy JOH) as my monitor is quite shitty (I never was able to raise custom res nowhere near to 3840*2160)

But despite of this I have couple of shots (mainly from the Temple of Mythal):

Still on Patch 6 and getting high-rez shots is getting a bit easier. You just have to take your time:

I also stumbled across a way to get SRWE to work while in fullscreen mode...  :o

It may be a spammy post, but I need to ask - these are made on PC? Or on a console? I wanna try and make some too, sadly my resolution is low :(

The essence of making these custom screenshots is the free camera mod (DAI Cinematic Tools), so unfortunately no consoles..
