Would you be able to post the workaround?

I saw that someone posted this on Tumblr:

http://ar-lath-ma-vh...how-to-use-mods

I gave it a shot and it will allow you to play with your mods. However, with this you won't be playing on the new patch. You will be playing on the patch you originally merged those mods to. None of the new content will be available and I would imagine it will not work for the Black Emporium. I tried re-creating a merged patch via Mod Manager and the new official patch and the game will not even run.

Yes, that was the first attempt to solve the problem. The developer Zhentar has released a new Mod Manager that is compatible with Patch 7 and, as a bonus, just writes the merged files directly to your Update folder. HOWEVER the oldest mods don't work with it anymore - the mod MUST be in .daimod format for the new Mod Manager to recognize it, so if you have any of the oldest mods, they are currently incompatible with the new Mod Manager.

If you have mods that not in .daimod format, you can try this workaround here in the struck through portion (which was the workaround before the new Mod Manager was released).

Anyway, give it a shot, and I'll try to answer any questions you have.

Good grief, most of my mods aren't in .daimod format - all of the pajama and finery retextures aren't. *sigh*

Guess I'll have to see if there are pajama retextures out there tomorrow.

Just tried it, and no good. Same problem persists.

If you use the second workaround and follow the steps outlined that are struck through, you can use non-.daimod mods. That's how I got the mods to work with Patch 7 the first time around. The new Mod Manager is just to make it easier to mod. It's possible to do ModManager .49alpha and Patch 7, it's just a few more steps.

Guys...I tested this and it works. Did 3840 x 2160 no problems at all, and the utility is much quicker and friendlier than SRWE. You just have to enter the desired resolution and hit ok twice.

You can use this utility with the patches =D

I started using it last night

Oh, thanks for testing that, Melissa! Testing it was on my list of 'to-do' but I never got around to it! This is on Patch 7 as well, yes?

I never did get SRWE working in my game, but I decided to try WBG just for funsies and IT WORKED!  I still really have no idea what I am doing and will likely cause my monitor to explode in my face (That cant really happen, right?).  It has slowed my game play down to a crawl (Last night I made about 40 feet and one minor scuffle with some Venatori,  I'm never gonna finish at this rate)

Anyway, no great shakes as far as composition goes, but here is the proof in the pudding

3000x4000px4lLskCE.jpg *

So now I have two questions. (more like two thousand but I will control myself)

1. Do I have this right? WBG doesn't display the higher resolutions downsampled to your screen size, so for example, I line up the shot in my regular resolution, then alt tab out and change the resolution in WBG, hit apply twice (for some reason), the screen now shows a small part of the final screenshot.  Hit prt sc and then alt tab back out and restore my native resolution. Am I doing this the hard way?  That is my usual method when trying new things.

and B. Would anyone be willing to share your favorite aspect ratio/resolutions?  I got up to 3600x2025 before I chickened out. I can't play at that resolution mind you.

Alternately, could you point me in the direction of a good source of same.

Pretty sure that was only quasi-coherent but thanks for reading.

Oh dang, one more question. (sorry).  How the heck do I link to my screenies on Flikr?  I clicked the share icon, copied the bbcode url and pasted same into the image pop-up window, but it just displays the broken image icon.  What am I doing wrong?

A: Pretty much all I do as well. The only thing is that when I want to take a shot, it is faster to pause the game (apart from cutscenes). You need to click to apply twice as first time it changes the size, and second time re-renders the picture (most of the time, but sometimes it does at once).

B: I have several preferred ARs, depending on what I want to do. My native is 16:9, but I like to use 4:3, 16:10, 2.39:1 (for wide pictures), or 1:1.

You can do almost every custom AR, the only thing I noticed is that height values are more sensitive, and the higher you set it, the more the possibility of freeze/crash. For example, I can set 3840*2016 without problem, but 3840*3840 will likely crash my PC.

Flickr link: grab the BBCode, and just paste it in your comment directly (not into the pop-up window - I suppose, as this option never worked for me on BSN...strange)

Sorry I wrote in a hurry, hope it is not a complete garbage....:)

Not sure why it would slow your game playing down to a crawl, as the tool would be used to hotsample, just like with SRWE (SRWE didn't downsample to your screen size either). Unless you mean that you're taking screenshots every two feet, which in that case, yes it will slow your progress down to a crawl.

I'll be going along like usual, find a scene I want and do my tweaking. Then I'll set up the aspect ratio I want that fits on my monitor, line up the shot, then blow up the screen size using the same aspect ratio to get the final shot. You do have to hit apply twice, but really it's way easier to use than SRWE - less glitchy and quicker. I can also get higher resolutions than I could with SRWE before my GPU says NOPE. Essentially the tool works exactly like SRWE, except that you manually type in the resolution you want (I keep a cheat sheet handy) and you have to hit apply twice.

My "go to" aspect ratios (other than 16:9) are 3:4 (good for portraits), 21:9, and 1:1. I will use a smaller resolution that will fit on my monitor to line up the shot (such as 638 x 850 3:4), then I'll blow it up using the same aspect ratio to actually take the screenshot (such as 3600 x 4800 3:4).

I'm just so super-d-duper happy that I no longer need to use custom resolutions on my monitor and deal with actually having to use downsampling or moving windows in SRWE or constantly swapping resolution in the in-game menu.

Just DL'd the latest patch and JOH content.  I'll hopefully be getting my patches set back up, my character tweaked, and be back posting screens soon.

I have been replaying FF13 and for being released in 2009 the graphics have help up pretty well.  Without a cinematic tool and minor post processing mods the game shoots nice.

Great pics everyone.

Also, Thanks for the Flickr help.  I kept trying and trying but I was pasting into the image pop-up and It just wouldn't work.

See, you can teach an old dog new tricks ;)

Melissa, the tip about using a smaller resolution at the same aspect ratio is pure gold!  That will save me quite a bit of guess work.  Thanks :) .  As for why WBG slowed me down (even more than I was-I never have finished this game), whenever I get a new tool/toy to play with I have to try all the buttons.  "will it do this?,  how 'bout this?  Occasionally I remember that my team is fighting something and cue up a few abilities before going back to fly-camming around looking for cool angles. B)

Also, I LOVE the Ponytail on Theo.  Beautiful.

Ah, I haven't been able to get all the way through that one. For some reason the story never kept me as engaged as with FF7, 8, 9 10 and 10-2.

I tend to fight on auto-pilot. I will pick someone I don't necessarily need to screenshot and select them. Then I'll let my IQ and the other two go at it while I pause every 2 sec to see if I have any good shots. I even fight dragons this way. I guess that's why I'm forced to play the game on "Normal" rather than any harder difficulties.

maybe someone can help me here.

I only run two mods and I haven't been able to get them to work. One mod to get rid of the sideburn on some hairstyles and another that reskins the pjs.

One was literally called "No Sideburns" and I think the PJ reskin has been taken off of nexus

They are both called package.mft in their folders i think.  Will these work with the new mod manager?  If not, Does anyone know of replacements that will?  Thanks in advance for any help.

@uncleanspirit: the mods in folders with the package.mft file are distributable format mods.  Mod Manager 0.52 will merge those ok.  I just tried with the No Sideburns and the Ornate PJs, both of which are working in my game.

So, make sure you are using mod manager version 0.52, as 0.51 was not merging distributable mods.

A clean Patch 7 should be in your Update folder, the mod manager will create the Patch_ModManagerMerge folder for you.

Do you know what the name of the pj mod was?  I have tried most of them available on the nexus.

Also, you might have to remove any old merge folders from your update folder and repair your game.

Hope that helps

@FenPhile: Thanks so much!  I was using 0.51.  Dl'd 0.52  repaired DAI and now I got rid of the sideburns and PJs.  I cant remember the name of the PJ mod I use but its ID'd as Ada-elf_light.

Now that I got my mods and can head to the black emporium, I can start playing again!

BTW: I browsed through your flickr DAI and Skyrim albums.  You have some nice screens in there.
