I'm not amazingly happy with it in The Hinterlands, though. I'll definitely be creating different configs for each map. I went heavily realistic last time when I was using SFX, but I'm not entirely certain that's what I'll do this time. A cross of realism and atmospherics that brings out the best of each location, I think. It'll just take some time to work out what tones feel best everywhere.
In the meantime, a couple from The Hinterlands before I scrap it and start again:
I'd be okay with this config, except it relies on having the ambient light shader on all the time, which is costly (whereas I switch it on situationally with the Haven config), and I want to get those overblown skies under control (although they look good in certain situations). Idk, I might keep playing with it for a bit. I don't hate these shots.
I've got ReShade how I like it in Haven now:

Oh ! It's wonderful !!I Really really really love your preset. Omg, this light and colours ! And the Commander, his eyes.... Do you use a mod ?

Thank you, I'm glad you like it!
I use the HD Eye Textures mod (non-lore version). I haven't tried any of the other eye mods, I don't know how they compare, but I'm happy enough with this one.

I used the lore-version before but I realized this mod made my game crash (got white screen at "The dawn will come") so I'm seeking another eye mod. ![]()

This is my first time using mods, and I haven't got very far yet so I don't know if it's a problem for everyone, or if you were just unlucky, but I'll be sure to take note when I get to that point in case I get the white screen thing. I know I have to take a bunch of stuff out if I go to the BE, and I know you can't have any mods at certain points during The Descent, but other than that it's all new to me!
I hope you find the eyes you like ![]()
Does anyone know how to combat this?
This would have been such a lovely portrait had it not been for the hair. AO seems to react very badly with the blonde hair in the game, even with a retex mod. Cole's is especially affected. Short of disabling AO entirely when taking a portrait (which would have a negative effect on the rest of the shot), does anyone have any idea how to combat it, even if it's just to stop the worst excesses? I've tried lower/higher shadow map numbers, and it's fine if the camera is decently far away, but as soon as I zoom in like this (whether moving the camera physically closer or using smaller fov numbers) this happens. It isn't made any better by hotsampling.
I've seen some pictures of Cole where he doesn't have this problem, so I can only assume that either they didn't have AO on, or they have a magical fix for it.
I'm enjoying the atmosphere and scenery in the Frostback Basin. They clearly put a lot of work into this area. It seems more resource intensive on my laptop though, and I get the odd crash when taking screenshots. My ReShade config has ambient light enabled all the time though, which is quite resource intensive.
I'm not posting everything here, you can of course see everything on tumblr or flickr.
This pic of Scout Harding is nice.

*snip*
I haven't made it into any of the DLC yet. I have them, I just keep getting sidetracked when I play. Anay, hee is a pic of the summer bazaar that I took today.

Thank you so much. It was my first attempt with her. I hope I will take some new screenshots of her. ![]()
For those with Trespasser, could somebody get me a picture of Saarath? He's the big Qunari.
I've started using a controller with the game. I hate hate hate hate hate it for combat. I pause a lot, and it's so fiddly and awkward to do so with the gamepad. Targeting is more difficult, and without going into tac-cam (which I don't tend to do very often) it's far more difficult to see what's going on around the battlefield, who the various enemies are, to plan who to go after first, etc. I do not like it one bit. I've given it a fair chance to get used to, I've been using it for two or three days now.
However, using the controller is a dream for taking screenshots. I never would have expected it to make this much of a difference. I don't have to change the speed numbers in the gui, because the sticks can control the speed at which the camera moves instead. The only thing I don't control with the gamepad is roll, since it sets off attacks or unpauses the action (unless I'm using freeze time, which I don't tend to do very often, I prefer in-game pause ctrl/LB). I'm being more creative with my angles, I'm pulling out into wider shots, I'm trying new things... all because the controller makes it easier.
So now I'm in that horrible, horrible place where I am sacrificing combat for screenshots, and that makes me grumpy, because I've always enjoyed challenging myself with the combat in BW games, and dropping it to easier difficulties so I can just button mash with the controller makes me a sad bunny. I wonder if you can set it to kb&m in game but still use the controller for Cinematic Tools, since I can still use the kb for CinTools while the controller is active in game. I HOPE SO!
