I READ ALL THE THINGS BECAUSE I HAVE A COMPULSIVE DESIRE TO CORRECT PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET

I tried on my current run, lasted till Skyhold. Then I gave up. There's just too much.

Some of the codex entries I read were hilarious though, like the Blood Lotus one (I think...)

Good god, as far as I'm concerned what is there if there isn't lore?

This is the first game where I've studiously read every single last shred of everything they've given me. I even spend time going through my codex to check I haven't missed anything. I won't read every single thing on my 2nd playthrough, but I'll still read the notes and anything relating directly to lore.

It adds so much to the game and the themes that are present throughout the series so far. The transmission of history and the way power affects what histories get told and embraced and which ones are shunned, which in turn goes right to the heart of thinking about the subjectivity of 'truth' -- those are crucial themes to the series and there is just so damned much in the lore notes and codex entries about that.
