I want to make some equipment for the rest of the game, but I've decided that save scumming simply isn't *fun* and I'd rather do _anything_ else to gain stuff that might take me 30-120 minutes. This isn't an MMO, there's no reason to make people suffer like this.

So, my question is, is there any way to gain a desired schematic that isn't sold, even by cheating somehow?

I actually found that farming schematics in the Grey Warden stronghold in EDL was superior to other places because I didn't have to zone out to reset the chests. I guess its because the stronghold is part of the whole world map vs an isolated instance (though world map zones are basically just big instances bit there IS a difference apparently). Basically after checking all the chests I go to the main stairway near the entrance quick save and quick load and bam all the chests are reset. That technique doesn't work in the instanced areas like Still Keep or the Suledin place.

he he there is that option too. It's particularly appealing to use CE to get the Archon staff schematic without sacrificing the Chargers.

Not sure why you want it, it's not that good and has  a wasted metal utility slot that you can only get str, or con on. I digress though, aside from using cheat engine there is no other way to get rng based schematics. You either save scum at chests or you zone out of an area to reset  chests. I don't find it fun either, or gathering resources, I did it in my first playthrough in the interest of being a completionist, and farming schematics and the appropriate resources easily added 20 or 30 hours onto my playtime. There are static locations for some good weapon schematics in the hissing wastes, you can get plans for the spiked longbow, serrated greatsword etc etc from the various tombs. In addition you can get arguably the best armor schematics from the canyon vendor there as well.

It's pretty if nothing else... the Seer staff is the ideal one for me IMO though.

Oh eff it. Thank you guys for trying, but I don't like the look of the cheating options that I can find. Too much work in its own right and too involved.

I suppose I'll just live with the Reinforced Battlemage Armour you can buy in the Hissing Wastes. I still miss my badass longcoat, but I just found an advantage: You can hide the terrible "Dragon Orange" with it - and decide the colour of the leather freely because it's an almost irrelevant defense slot.

I would say this: I hope Bioware drops the randomization thing, at least with stuff like schematics. It feeds people like me who honestly care too much about inventory.

One thing that bothers me more than it should on the cloth armor is that if you use dragon materials the color of your palms is that dreadful orange regardless of masterwork materials. I also have that problem with dragon bone. Why did it have to be gold? it just plain painful to look at my warrior wielding that gold and orange greatsword I would soo much prefer the dark red color dragonbone had in origins.
