Would it be practical to use Corrupting Rune over Dragon Slaying Runes since Damage versus Living captures a broader classification? Same goes with Demon Slaying Runes too. I'm thinking, aside from Undead, every other encounter in the game is against living. UNLESS the damage cap for the specific Slaying Runes is much higher than Corrupting Rune I feel like staying with Corrupting Rune in general is practical. Any advice? Thanks.

To me I think it's practical but there are some considerations to investing specifically to the other Runes like I said. If Corrupting Runes Damage Cap at maximum quality is less than that of either Dragon or Demon-Slaying, then I would probably go with specific Runes. I haven't compared the Runes in-game to see if this holds true. But for basic definitions of the Rune, Corrupting affects a lot of other foes in general. In terms of Lore, Red Templars shouldn't be affected by it, as these Runes are crafted from Red Lyrium.

I don't even want to discuss Elements anymore because these are more flexible, as you can just have Mages handle elemental damage. With Elemental Barrage and its upgrade, I don't think I would need to stock up weapons with Elemental Runes. I can just switch Staves depending on which encounter I am about to face.

the most useful rune is superb demon slaying rune because

1) clear rift faster, all mobs from rift are demons.

2) demon slaying includes undead which is bonus as it encompasses 2 groups

3) all maps benefit from this rune

corruption (edit: name suppose to be Cleansing Rune)

1) not so many darkspawn except some quests

2) useful late game whereby red lyrium Templars are around but red lyrium mobs are standard and not many boss levels mobs

3) only 2-3 maps benefit from this

living (edit: name suppose to be Corrupting)

1) thrash mob rune; almost no boss are considered under this category except some bears ( cant remember offhand)

2) all map benefit from this; for hunting purposes

3) minor bandits, animals and normal humanoid including Templar and mages but still not worth using because without this rune, they die slowly as well

dragon

1) helps 10 encounters

2) for min/max

3) not useful outside the 10 encounters. wyvern doesn't count as well

4) only certain map location (where the dragons resides) are useful

5) for testing purposes.

Okay. Got your point regarding Demon-Slaying.

Got confused a bit the next two - so you have Corrupting (#3 by your definition) and Cleansing (#2 by your definition).

Corrupting Runes is a bit ambiguous given its Tool Tip. It's damage against "Living" supposed to be, some sites read it as additional damage to Humanoids, Beasts, and Animals. Red Templars and Darkspawn can be considered Humanoid (by your clarification they aren't normal Humanoid). While Dragons, well, nothing is more beastly than they are if you ask me. (But again I guess, the specific overrules the general descriptors, in this case)

I think they should spell it out more: "Additional Damage against anything other than Dragons, Demons, Undead, Red Templars, and Darkspawn. (This is just me nitpicking on the writing.)

But thank you for clearing that up. I guess Demon Slaying is indeed the priority, since it's the whole point of the game. To keep out demons from the living world.

Corruption does not work on red tempalrs, you need cleansing for the, Red lyrium has the blight in it, so cleansing for them.

thanks for the clarification.

I type it off my mind in my office so might not be 100% accurate but you guys are smart enough to get the point =)

edit 1: yeah the actual name is cleansing rune. I am home now will log in game and edit the correct name in my post.

edit 2: by the way, if the rune works, there will be 2 numbers showing with 1 hit. base damage and bonus rune damage. each deals critical separately.

edit 3: I have corrected my post on the name of the rune.
