Seconded. I've read books from big names that weren't worth a fraction of the price(Stephanie Meyer's The Host can go to hell.), and read
Fan-Created works that I'd buy in a heartbeat.

I have one that qualifies vaguely as fanfiction, though was more of a Text Adventure-y...thing. Only have it on my other computer, though.

As far as my personal favorites for reading, they're virtually all from the MLP Fandom, so be forewarned.

2014 was a slow year, but it's still going, last update was in November.

I'm honestly impressed.

I actually haven't read it in a while, I read most of the fic in a week long binge, and that wasn't too hard, because while it was pretty awful, I was able to build up some immunity to the awfulness over time. But now, the length of time between releases is greater than the time it took me to lose all the immunity I had built up over the first 50 odd chapters. I may have to wait for a few more to come out before I power through the rest of them, or else inoculating myself against all that edge would just be a waste of effort.

Hmm, I've only ever written fanfics back in the old BSN days, started in 2009 on my first account. Those sometimes would also involve people from my friendlist, thus they were pretty popular. I do enjoy reading a good fanfic, preferably one that doesn't take as long as Fallout Equestria lol.
