It seems that Rift Mage + Storm and Rift Mage + Inferno are two very good combinations. For example, Fire Mine and Static Cage pair greatly with Pull of the Abyss. So, my final question is...

Will people come after me with pitchforks if I do Rift + Storm + Fire, if its even possible?

I used all three elements with Rift.  Immolate, Chain lightning, winter's grasp, and Barrier.  I then invested in passives to get the plus 3s in magic and willpower.  My remaining four spells went into the Rift Spells and focus ability.

I also brought another mage that went deep into an element for access to fire mine, ice mine, and static cage.  This build has been too easy so far for me.

Ideally you will want basic attacks from as many elements as possible, including winter's grasp. However, the problem with your combination isn't the possibility to do it, just that it'd take most of the game to get in a position where you can cast PotA, Static Cage and Fire Mine, as they are all in the far end of their skill sets. Still, I don't see why not.

Upgraded chain lighting works great for rift mage. Winter's grasp is pretty expensive mana wise so i ended up using it for enemies that i miss and charge towards me  tho i started finding ice mine more useful since its more of a fire and forget spell just leave it under where your stand work well enough. If you want frost damage tho then a upgrade fade step is a better way to go.

My rift mage is rift/storm/fire with a cold damage staff  for energy barrage so I have all elemental damage types to choose from. It can be done and it can be VERY effective if built and geared right.

I've been doing a ton of mid game combos with Archer+Solas Rift Mage. Usually cast Barrier on my group to intitiate I have the bonus to Stamina off of It, Cast Stealth then;

Full Draw/Stone fist to Ruture

Winter Grap/Long Shot. to shatter Let archer finish to regain Stealth

Knockout Bomb/Dispel Causes Nightmare

Veil Stike on Tanks target, recast Barrier when available

Meanwhile Archer regains a new position takes shots at Tanks target and gets ready to finish units coming out of nightmare.  Its been alot of fun its some tac caming but thats only to call up spell combos in difficult fights.  In run of the mill stuff Solas casts Winters Grasp and Stone Fist combos on his own.
