So yes. I tried rift, an necro.... scrappe my necro, was gonna go for KE this time.

I honestly have no clue how to play this.  I began with Viv..... use that blade move..... she drops like a ton of bricks.... this isn't like the AW spec, I can't put her in armor.... her attacks were barely giving me over 100 dps...................

So..... help? Please?

Thank you  :D

I believe Fade Shield is one of the things that helps, as it's barrier return on damage.

But I think on it's own it's decent, but most seem to group it with Fire Tree's Clean Burn and Fade Cloak upgraded for the damage. Spirit Blade works with Clean burn in that it reduces cooldown, which means you can use Fade Cloak (make sure you position yourself right though, since apparently you have to be inside them). The damage returns your barrier.

It's a bit slow and boring though, but it's not bad to start if you're still getting the hang of it. You can do the same without Fade Shield, but you'll be casting barrier and getting out of melee a lot more.

Yep, fade cloak is your go to move at first to keep your barrier up, clean burn to reduce cooldowns, and eventually you can weave in things like firemine to replenish your barrier as well. Kill snoufleurs for the hide, crafting medium armor with this stuff allows you to equip medium armor onto your KE. I found it better to wear prowler armor for instance and stack cunning to boost up my enchanter's critical hit rating. Farm obsidian nodes for the guard on hit fade touched variant (or silverite if you're high enough for emprise du lion) That will provide you with an extra safety cushion but with a little practice and gearing you won't really need it.

What they said...

Basic summary:

1. Take Spirit Blade, Fade Shield, upgraded Fade Cloak, Clean Burn

2. Get into melee range and pop Fade Cloak

3. Spam Spirit Blade whenever Fade Cloak is down to reduce cooldown

4. Repeat 2-3 until everything is dead

Craft the highest damage staff you can, because it doesn't work well until a certain damage threshold.  Tier 2 with T2 metal in the main slot should be fine.

Boring at first, but as you level up you'll get more points for things like Rejuvenating Barrier and other damage spells, so you'll have plenty of mana to hurl out a lot of DPS.

Yep, and ultimately a KE becomes a very powerful, multifaceted mage that can do ranged or melee with equal skill and damage. He has the barriers and, with crafting the right armor can wear heavy armor and, generate guard as well - all but invincible at that point. Yes a mage that can tank a dragon and take ZERO damage doing it. Okay that takes a level 16+ KE and some careful crafting but, they can let you play as if you have god mode only you don't need mods or cheats to do it, just a well built, properly equipped KE and, you have to know how to make it work and keep the barrier or guard up at all times in a fight.

KE can also heal the entire party at will so, no loosing companions in a tough fight. With KE doing his job, the rest can peck anything to death with only basic attacks if they wanted.

KE is the ultimate solo/cannot be killed class in this game. For me it is all about a good offense is the best defense. I would suggest trying to get high grade crafting materials crafting a max Seer Staff (I had one crafted at 207DPS utilizing the masterwork Dragon Tooth and Dragon Bone for damage and adding a Superb Demon Rune).

Next spec the KE with Spirit Blade, Combat Clarity, Fade Shield, and Fade Cloak (w/ upgrade). I also like Barrier (w/ upgrade), Peaceful Aura, and the perk in KE branch that makes your barriers decay more slowly (can't remember the name off top of my head).

At its very core, that is darn near all you need. There are other great perks to pare with passive wise like Clean Burn and cool moves to vary your combat like Fire Mine. But once you have the basic setup with a strong DPS staff and gear generated to boost your magic, willpower, crit chance/crit damage, etc... you are good to go.

The most crucial part is the Fade Shield. What I meant by a great offense is the best defense is that damage dealt by KE with Fade Shield passive takes a portion of the damage and generates barrier. So if you are hitting with Spirit Blade at a high DPS (base and crit) you essentially get unlimited barrier which makes you completely invincible as melee mage.

Also the upgrade for Fade Cloak does insane damage generating a ton of barrier as well. I generally would run at a group of enemies, cloak near them and start spamming Spirit Blade, decloak in them to deal massive damage and generate a ton of barrier, continue to Spirit Blade melee until cloak regened, and rinse and repeat.

You can solo dragons using this approach easily with a KE (easily the most OP class in the game). Even on Nightmare!!

Fire Mine is cookie-cutter and the highest damage build, with Chaotic Focus.  Not sure how well Fire Wall does.

Schematics can be farmed using any of multiple methods that you can Google.  Top staff is probably Seer Staff with Hilted Staff Grip and Dragon Staff Blade (+Attack and +Crit Chance or Crit Damage in appropriate slots).  Armor probably doesn't matter, but there are lots of options.  If all else fails, you can buy the First Enchanter Staff schematic from Suledin Keep, which is T3 and not terrible.

[Edit] More specifically, I consider cookie cutter to be something like this (8th slot for Mark of the Rift or any other ability of your choice)

Melee priority order is usually Fire Mine > Fade Cloak > Spirit Blade > autoattack

Ranged priority order is Fire Mine > Energy Barrage > autoattack, with Fade Step to close into melee or just to reduce cooldowns vs. hard-to-reach enemies

Barrier for "pure" ranged situations or emergencies, Dispel for utility (vs. barriers or to stop burning/poison, or as a detonator)

It only works well with Rejuvenating Barrier, though.

Obviously you need to adapt it to the situation, i.e. use Energy Barrage (non-Fire staff) vs. Rage Demons and not vs. Pride Demons.

Generally speaking, the consensus (and I personally agree) is that the best staff for KE is the Seer Staff. It is a random dropped T3 schematic and it is believed to be the best because all it's crafting slots are geared towards offense and raising the DPS the staff can deal (which as I said above is the basis of making your KE unstoppable).

The best way that I have found to farm for Seer Staff schematic is in EDL at a location known as Valeska's Watch. It can be accessed just after a camp you capture early in your trip to EDL. Entering the mini dungeon is easy and there are darkspawn to defeat. Once you clear the area, there are like 6 or 7 T3 chests that can be looted over and over.

Essentially you use the chest inventory glitch to loot the chests and you don't have to fast travel anywhere to refill them (which is what makes this place ideal). You simply loot the chests while leaving at least one item behind in them for all the T3 schematics you can... save game... load that save (only takes a couple seconds)... and repeat the same looting process until your heart is content.

I was able to get my Seer Staff schematic in this manner in about 30 mins of looting.
