Now that would actually make it worthwhile. Kill the DarkSpawn companion sidequest, in gruesome tortuous fashion. Otherwise no.
I will master my taint and kill this darkspawm

Yes. Darkspawn LI. Sign me up.
I'm with you OP. I think an Awakened Darkspawn companion could make for a really interesting story.

I was disappointed when we got Legion in ME 2. And I'd be disappointed if we got a sapient darkspawn in the future too.
**** you Dave, Legion was amazing!

The responses are what I expected to the suggestion but as I said, I already acknowledged that the taint would probably make it impossible. For me, it would be an interesting way to get more depth on the dark spawn from an actual dark spawn lol Not that we didn't learn anything in Awakening, but like with Legion, you learn more by befriending the "enemy." To the guy who was disappointed about Legion, you should be tar'd and feathered for that ![]()

Maybe in the next one we will see that darkspawn side of the wardens come out and become a hybrid more darkspawn than human. Remember that cure your da1 charecter is tracking down hmmm.

To anyone who does not know the lore darskpawn have a natural aura around them called the taint. Basically anyone who is around a darkspawn long enough gets sick and there is no known cure other than becoming a Grey Warden, which makes you immune to the taint. Of course Grey Wardens are few in number and the ritual to become one is often fatal, which makes it a very poor choice for a large population of people who are exposed to the taint.
So what dose the taint do? Well if you are lucky it drives you incurably insane, in fact it eventually does this to Grey Wardens as well. If you are not, you die a very slow and painful death.
So given this we would see what the result of having one as a companion would be. You, your companions, and everyone in Skyhold would either slowly going insane or die a slow painful death simply because you are near him.
Now if you think this is a good idea by all means bring him along so he can spread a magical plague that will whipe out everyone in the castle. If not, I think the OPs idea might not be as wise, or well thought out, as he believed.
Edit:
If you are simply looking for more insight into the darkspawn society and what makes them what they are just simply play Dragon Age: Awakening, the entire plot revolves around this. Alternatively there is the DLC Darkspawn Chronicles.
Either way the OPs idea was not a very good one.

I also think it would be amazing if they were a poetic snob, or a jousting enthusiast, or maybe really loved Andrastrian theology or something like that. So it was half a joke reply half legit. Give me a companion who throws a wrench in the lore and our concepts of Darskpawn but like, also is weird and personable and funny.

If the next game has you playing as a warden again then yeah darkspawn ally
,but the lore maniac/logical part of me is clashing against the idea.
Unless the darkspawn ally is special like a prototype or something with a taint that doesn't taint, like a cobra with no venom.
Yes that could work. ![]()

Bioware has a known track record for wittingly or unwittingly (don't always know) retconning lore. Sometimes it's disguised as a "surprising plot turn" ("curing" tranquility, for example), sometimes it's just some elaborate version of "because we felt like it" (e.g. healing magic). There's nothing to say that if tranquility can be cured, and that if the Calling might be cured, there's nothing to be done about the taint.
<Joker voice> Just throwing it out there. </JV>

I'm starting to question if people have actually read what I said. I pretty much said the corruption would make it impossible, but if it weren't for that then it would be interesting. As someone else said, they could work around the taint. Idk how they'd do it but Bioware's thrown us curve balls before that we didn't expect rofl
To the one bringing up Darkspawn Chronicles, that was before the Darkspawn became "intelligent" in Awakening. You didn't even have dialogue in that lol bunch of monster noises and gestures
I agree with veeia that it is kind of disappointing that Bioware hasn't done anything further about that story. We learn about the Architect, how the darkspawn can become awakened, and then nothing more about it after that

It would be great...only if I get to betray them to their own and watch them die a slow agonizing and horrible death while they watch their own corrupted brothers and sisters eat them alive.

I imagine him to be brutal and bloodthirsty, but also naive to the workings of the world. Make him a mage so we can say he developed a spell to protect others from the taint.
Everyone who says it's impossible due to the taint, is kidding themselves. Like you must be new to the fantasy genre if you think things like this limit the writers.

Well, we learned in DAI that the Taint doesn't affect non-living material, so if the Darkspawn wore complete head to toe armor then it could theoretically be possible since the Taint won't corrupt the armor or anything the armor touches.
That could even be a plot twist in the character's story. At first you just think it is a guy who doesn't want to take off his armor but near the end of the recruitment mission he gets hit and the helmet falls off, revealing the ally you've been fighting with for that mission was an Awakened Darkspawn.

Doesn't the taint have to do with their blood? I can't recall. A Darkspawn mage could be interesting. Arrest that Darkspawn apostate! ha
