I spent most of the afternoon searching the web and this forum with many conflicting ideas.
ABSTRACT: you’re playing the Dragon Age Origins DLC called Warden’s Keep. After entering the castle, you go up to the 2nd floor to find a Rage Demon surrounded by 4 supporting skeletons which are firing HEALING bolts to the center Rage Demon. Priorities here are obvious.
PROBLEM: after killing the bad boys, the door nearby (to the Shrine) remains locked. You're screwed.
RESEARCH: There is much talk about this being a LEVELING problem; that is – if you (or one in your crew) accumulates enough points to start blinking “level up” – this is supposed to cause the locked door bug.
Then thinking in retrospect on past games; it made no sense. The bug cause should be a LOCAL issue and either a CO-requisite or PRE-requisite event for the door to unlock. To debunk this, I left camp ALONE – nowhere near leveling up -- with godslayer weapons. Result: same locked door.
After further research I found two articles; one on this forum & the wiki (probably by the same guy) – I can’t find it (again) to give him credit. The solution is as I suspected – and he said it plainly. Let me elaborate so as not to be ambiguous:
If you & crew are “walking death” and kill the Rage Demon too quickly, a PRE-requisite does not occur. Putting my squad on HOLD in the next room doesn’t work. As you approach the area, your squad accompanies you and when the action starts, too late (Rage Demon) dies too quickly.
MY SOLUTION: you might find another way to do this. I left camp ALONE. Make sure you bring some LESSER swords with you (9.5 or 11.5). Use Demon Slayer or Excalibur to get to the 2nd floor. Take out the 4 corner healing skeletons FIRST -- and be careful not to touch the center Rage Demon. Then switch weapons, amulets, rings (whatever) so you’re not so “deadly”.
Go easy on the bad boy. As his health deteriorates to a certain level, he will summon two “lava” demons. When that happens, then you can switch to “tough guy” and after taking those down, a cut scene will play and the door will be UNLOCKED.
