I absolutely love them too. They're tarot cards, and you can learn about their character if you know about Tarot card similarities... Very cool.
Also, spoilers/speculation:
Spoiler
Solas' starting card has the exact same pose as Shartan, and a picture of Shartan shows a ragged looking elf holding an orb. Solas was Shartan. Also, Sera's second card (Where she is shooting an arrow behind her back) looks extremely similar to Andruil's mosaic... Could she be her vessel?

I collect Tarot card decks (all purchased!) and would buy the deck if it were available. I really hope they sell them at some point - are the Inquisitor's editions even still available? The analyses I have read comparing the cards to various trumps have been very thought-provoking.
Regarding the card and certain elves... I just read some fascinating discussions about Sera's card: (spoilers ahoy)
I was most affected by Dorian's romance card change - it was the first card change I saw in my first playthrough (I was playing full immersion, no spoilers), so it caught me by surprise and I just stared at it for a while.
The second emotional kick was seeing Blackwall's card change.
Spoiler
Seeing him riding a griffon just made me think of Bellerophon, Sturm Brightblade, and a bunch of other tragic-heroic legendary knights, even Don Quixote. Since griffons are extinct, it felt mythical and aspirational, as if his desire to become a better, nobler person embodied the true spirit of the Grey Wardens, and through that desire he could even bring back the griffons to join in the fight for Good. I'm a sucker for redemption stories and I'm not afraid to say I got a little lump in the throat when I saw it.
I'm also a huge fan of the gorgeous mosaics, murals (Balckwall's barn at Skyhold, Solas' mural, various Dalish rock paintings, Dirthamen mosaics etc.), and Orlesian portraiture.
Well over all i loved most of DAI concept art and thats not just limited to character cards. Personally i'd love if there was some book with collection of it, as in game one and scraps that didn't get into game but ah well...
Also PS. MP character cards (could say class?) are awesome too only shame is that actual in game representation of said cards is major disappointment XD
My favourite was the rogue archer one, when you have to choose your class. Then it was Vivienne and the grand picture of her somewhere in Orlais. And now after a certian amount of time my fav is this: it is no character card but a tarot one that is shown during loading times

I'm curious to know if the Inquisitor's Edition comes with all the tarot cards as they are in-game. I've heard it comes with tarot cards, but I'm not sure how many or what kind.
I hope they sell stacks of them separately at some point.
I love those cards. Would buy them immediately if I had the option.
And if they were indeed in the Inquisitor's Edition, I'll just weep silently in a corner thinking that I should have bought it.
There is a tarot deck in the Inquisition Edition. A lot of the cards from the game is in it, but I don't think all of them. I can't remember seeing the one for romanced Blackwall, for instance. The romanced Dorian card is "The chariot".

Even if it's not all of them, I wish I had bought the Inquisitior Edition: they are so pretty.
It would be great though if they published them separately in a deck that contains all of them. Through buying from the Bioware store from Europe is a little painful.
Yep, I also love the cards. Generally, DAI's visual art is top-notch, both on the maps and in the more abstract elements like this and the murals in the rotunda. I think they've been trying to find the "DA art style" for some time, and here they finally found it.
I'd pay a collector's price for a full set of cards. I would've bought an inquisitor's edition, but I missed the announcement and then it was sold out.
I really was so happy to see all the lovely cards and how they changed. Also, did anybody else not notice at first that you can flip cards in the loadscreen? I felt a bit sheepish having missed even more there! Although I think they come from the codex you unlocked...

Other than the amazing Dorian romance card, I can't stop looking at this:
One of my favourites.
Honestly, I miss the tarot card changes for the advisors (Cullen and Josie). There is no change at all if they are involved in a romance with the Inquisitor.

Same! I also wished Leliana's card changed when hardened or softened.
