I wonder how people argue so much about Inquisition not being what it is.

People deny the MMORPG nature of quests.

People deny Skyrim influence.

So much denial...

DAI is a DA MMORPG that failed. The DA3 will probably be the next one. We will have either DA3 or the properly finished DA MMORPG, perhaps both sometime in the future. But the point is that they were going to make a DA MMORPG and it was so awful, it was so ridiculous and despicable in the testing stages that they decided to sell us because a trashing can did not deserve so much garbage.

Yes, I read that article a few days ago. Can't say I was surprised, DA:I is pretty obviously a re-purposed MMO.

It is easy to make out while playing the game. A singleplayer MMO feel which even KOA had. The quest design, capital text everywhere, fetch quests, checklist of environments.

Yup, DA:I is a MMO without anything that makes MMOs fun, like player interaction, PvP, group content, player trading, expansive customisation, player RP etc.

The main quest is kinda fun, but it feels so detached from the 'main game' it hurts. Basicaly you click on MAIN QUEST icon on war table and you are teleported to MQ map.

Meh

I think I will force myself to finish the game for the sake of story, but I don't really have an intention to have a 2nd playthrough.

Um... no. Read the article again, Particularly this bit:

"That became the core of what became Dragon Age Inquisition, the techlines, more than any of the development, so we've actually been looking at [multiplayer] a long time."

They're talking about the tech, not the gameplay or design.

If you'd read this article carefully, or the other articles debunking this myth, you would know that it began life as a different game entirely, and it went through several cancellations and reiterations before the remnants were incorporated into Dragon Age: Inquisition, which was intended to have SP from its inception.

But hey, who cares about the truth when you're complaining.

You really took that story and ran with it, didn't you?

Also not to let fact spoil a good rant but, 'mulytiplayer only' doesn't automatically mean MMO. Shadow Realms for example - multiplayer only, not an MMO.

You have to be online to play it. The game is mostly just grind quests and fetch quests. Insane limitations on each class. Spawning enemies.

Sounds like an mmo to me.

whether they changed the design direction early, or late seems moot, when the entirety of the game feels like youre playing an mmo, but in single player mode.. Edler Scrolls Online, feels very similar...

My feeling tells me that we won't see a single player DA game again.... it will go MMO, so we should enjoy this one while it lasts. By reading the article it's clear as day that consolized games is what we are going to play on our PC's in the future.

Spot on. DA:I was a beta for a DA mmo. Said MMO will kill the franchise too. Kotor all over again.

let's hope that we are both wrong, eh ? B) MMO's usually kill every franchise, but they are a source of milking cash over a long period of time. They are form of legalized theft because it's crazy that I pay 50$ for damn game. I play for like 30 days for free and then If I want to continue playing it, I have to pay a monthly fee. My unpopular and retarted view... but that's how I feel about MMO's.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Elder Scrolls ONLINE already an MMO and was created with the sole intent of being an MMO?

I would also like to point out that multiplayer and MMO are not mutually exclusive terms, as from reading various posts around this forum, it seems that many people don't realize that.

Actually, and I say that without any irony, this statement intrigues me. Could you elaborate?

(AFAIK MMO = massively multiplayer online. Are you referring to those old play-by-email strategy games that would be multiplayer but not "online" in today's sense?)

This isn't even news... We've known the original tech was multiplayer only for a long time.

You have to be online to play it.

If I understand you mean. MMO massive multiplayer online like GW2, Secret world, WOW, ESO .... there 100 and more people play at same time.

And you don't count games like Moba(LoL dota) as MMO because it's not massive but only 5vs5 or basically all multiplayer shooters.

Not necessarily play-by email, but yes, massively multliplayer online. general multiplayer has general limits to the number of people in a gameplay session. Like Diablo 3- you can only have 4 players at a time in a MP session online OR hotseat, therefore there is nothing massive about it. With games like WoW and GW and even Everquest, you can run into hundreds of player characters who may or may not be playing with you in your session. I hope that makes sense. I just woke up and my coffee hasn't fully hit my brain yet.

Pretty much exactly.

Sure, if NWN or Baldur's Gate fit those categories? Note here: I'm not talking about the MMO Neverwinter. NWN had an online component where you could run through the campaigns, or through player crafted material. You don't have to take my word for it, however, or even leave the BSN: Neverwinter Nights forums.

MMO is short for "Massive Mongoloid Overload", I think.

I guess this is the multiplayer project that article was talking about.

From 2011:

That's right, Dragon Age is going multiplayer. The role-playing franchise is, according to an insider, going beyond singleplayer for the first time, and warriors won't simply face off against each other in combat.

Apparently, dragons will also be playable in Dragon Age multiplayer, giving players the chance to go head-to-head with foes in fire-breathing, swooping-through-the-air dragon form.

The insider wasn't sure if Dragon Age multiplayer was going to be part of a full, stand-alone title (ala Dragon Age 3) or available separately as a downloadable game. It is apparently being developed on DICE's Frostbite 2 game engine (used for Battlefield 3), and even early-on the game apparently looks stunning.

The multiplayer is supposedly an arena-based affair and features player versus environment (PvE) elements as well as player versus player (PvP), as well as humans fighting dragons. Details on what PvE battles entail are scant.
