WTF I have been farming the chests in Western Approach for a whole day and I can't get helm of the inquisitor to drop. Will it ever drop? Will I ever get the damn helm? I feel like I am back in WoW days raiding week in and week out for one damn thing to drop. Are there ANY strategies to getting the thing to drop. I almost regret getting this game just because of the schematic system.

 

Also, how in the Maker's name do I get the Hissing Wastes merchant to reset? I wasted points on short list perk because the thing never works. WHY IS THIS GAME BROKEN???????????

 

Do I have to get this game on PC and mod everything to work?

I have an Xbox One. I farmed the Hinterlands chest for about 2 hours before i finally got it. I had just about every tier 2 item you could get prior to that so 2 hours should be max but if your lucky it will be sooner.

Kill the Dragon in Emerald Greaves and you will get a Rare level 15-16 Helm of Inquisitor...

Ya loot system is broken...It's designed by some idiot...Worst loot system ever...

No proper mods to fix loot system yet...You have to use that 3rd party CheatEngine to make schematic appear in your game...It can break your game if you don't do it properly...I don't like to use CE..I want proper mods like Skyriim to fix broken **** in this game...

I wasted 2 hours in Unadin Grotto to get Dalish Warrior armor schematic but **** never dropped....:|

Imo the Helm that drops from the dragon is better stat wise from what you can craft but still a schematics to get. Took me roughly an hour of farming the Hinterlands chest til it showed up (even saw the Dalish Warrior schematics but couldn't take it since it was all that was in the chest). Only schematic I want at this point is the MW Tevinter sword, and of course I play on 360.

What works for me consistently is:

 

1. Zone out (might need to enter a zone where there's a vendor - I use Griffon Wing Keep)

2. Exit the game completely (i.e., not just to the main screen)

3. Restart the game

4. Go back to the Hissing Wastes vendor

I have been having the same problem with the merchant. And yesterday, after doing this **** with jumping between maps and restarting the game it finally happened...

the vendor had updated his stock! There were new schematics! A yellow one! "Superior battle..." MAGE armor?
Fuuuuuuuu.... I need the superior battlemaster armor for my warrior! I've been doing this since saturday!

 

Anyway...besides my rage of how this is no way to play a game. I've put a point in to the rare stocks, the schematics are really expensive - enough! Don't make it random as well! What kind of merchand does not put out his best stock? Does he like spin a wheel "what stock will I sell today?"

Anyway, I did notice something. This was the first time, EVER that he had updated his stock (since then, nothing) and it happened right after I hade claimed the last camp and closed the last rift in the Hissing Wastes. I have no idea if that has anything to do with it but I would give that a try if I were you and then continue to try and get him to restock.

 It's why I prefer playing pc games, if something is wrong, you can go in and fix it. The schematic system is indeed crap, After spending hours trying to get the plans I want legitimately (or as legitimately as resetting an instance over and over can be) I just said F it and added the plans I was looking for.

Thank god we can use Cheat Engine.

 

4th playthrough and I used cheat engine to get my favourite schematics back after trying to farm them for hours on a previous playthrough.

Which chest in the Hinterlands are you all referring to?

This one. As long as you do not remove all the items from the chest.. save reload will reset the chest and keep doing this until you get the helmet. You can do this to all the chests in the hinterlands for T1 items, and a couple for T2. Search the forum for early T2 schematic farming.. T3 schematic farming.. or anything that contains the words schematic.. and.. farming.

Oh man. I REALLY hope I didn't loot that one yet. The loot system is so damn frustrating in this game. I only found out about the method of leaving something in the chest recently, so everything before that is gone. I hope it's still there.

How quickly does the Hissing Wastes Merchant refresh his stock with the "Short List" Perk?

Yeah I just got this perk.  I haven't been back over there since I found it.  Hope the right stuff is for sale now.

So I went to both Sulevin Keep Merchant and Hissing Wastes Merchant after I unlocked the perk....and neither place had anything new.  Did I do something wrong?

After 4 playthroughs I actually found it in some random chest in the Forbidden Oasis f*cku RNGesus

Of course I was not really looking for the helm but doing tier 2 chests to find the elusive dalish warrior armor that still escapes me .

But yesh it`s a very nice helm!

Yep. I farmed the three chests near the Fereldan Frostback with my Level 4 Rogue for ~ 1,5 hours to get the helm. Really awesome to have it so early in the game. Lots of screentime for it.
