People have been expecting this for over two years now, but Creative Assembly and Sega have finally gone and announced a Total War: WARHAMMER game. In about the most anticlimactic way possible.

The studio has put together an art book, covering the history of the Total War series, and it wasn't due to ship to customers until the end of this month. Some early copies are heading out now, though, and one fan who already has one found something in a section written by CA's Mike Simpson:

Yeah I look forward to this. I'm not a fan of 40k but I am of the fantasy universe of Warhammer. There's so much potential there and there's only been three strategy games made in this universe. This game has been a long time coming. Hopefully undead and vampires are a playable faction (they existed in one or two missions IIRC in Mark of Chaos).

Interesting. Creative Assembly's first ahistorical total war game, if you don't count that expansion to Shogun 1. It looks like GW handing out its license like no other will pay off.

i wonder if they could do games in other settings if this is a success, obviously GoT with games coming left and right might be a possibility

I have never really had the interest to play the Total War series outside of total conversion mods because of the historical 'mundane' settings. This game may change that.

I just hope that when it comes to Chaos its not just simply KHORNE with a side dish of the other Gods.

I really hope that if we play Tzeentch we can use manipulation to us others as puppets and get them to do what we want. Although this is pretty heavy speculation for a game which hasn't even been formally announced.

The 15th anniversary video teased at TW: Warhammer. At around the 2:33 mark, there was a certain beast-like sound. Either that or Smaug DLC 6.99 pre-purchase now.
