Oh yeah, but you're not supposed to fight those until at least lvl 8-9. It's easy to just run past them to the Horsemaster. They don't bother you if you don't engage them.

Yup, I agree.... but, well, in my first game I thought, "ehh, it's just another rift! What's the worst that could- d'oh!"

I fought one of the battles in the winter palace 4 times, dying horriblly each time before realizing that my party were wearing their formal uniforms and therefore entirely unarmored. On the plus side, I did better each time and almost succeeded the last time because it really taught me to maximize my use of abilities, lol.

I somehow missed the tutorial part in my first pt about the search button. I played for a solid 5 hours unaware that I could actively search for stuff.... Not my proudest moment.

These were my biggest "d'oh" moments, too. I somehow completely missed that there was a search button. It drove my crazy to look for Adan's note in Haven. I mean, the location was on my map but I couldn't find the bloody notes. Finally, I did a Google search for that. Felt like an idiot afterwards. LOL.

And I had similar experience at the winterpalace. Right before the fighting began there was a pop-up window telling me something about how to change my characters' armor. And I was like: "Really? A tutorial? Now?" So I closed the window without taking a further look. Then the fighting began and my poor mage, Cassandra and Cole barely survived the first fight. They kicked the bucket during their second one. I was really disappointed with Cassandra. She was supposed to be my kick-ass warrior. What had happened to her? I think I reloaded twice before I realized that it's sometimes worth it to read the text in a pop-up window ;).

Yep, I did the 'didn't change out of formal gear' too, but I did it again when you enter that area after you've re-equipped your companions and you have to give Quizzie back their gear. Really happy I noticed before I entered the last room.

I'd heard about the dragon in the Hinterlands and how people kept finding it before they could fight it and getting fireballed. I couldn't find it. I looked around out of curiosity but never found the area. I was wondering where it was because I'd done a good deal of walking around and hadn't seen it. Then I did the quest that leads you to the camp in front of the area, went 'Never seen this before' and got slammed when I got out of the cave. Thank goodness for barrier.

Couldn't figure out how to upgrade Bianca until I saw the character tab at the top of the crafting screen.

And for some reason I didn't realize that killing the (spoilers for Solas' personal quest) Pride Demon in All New, Faded for Her, would kill his friend (it attacked me and... stupid) I got rid of the pillars but nothing happened because I didn't realize that I missed one at the back so I figured that it would end the battle. It did but I had to reload because I figured that killing the spirit was not the best outcome.

It took me way longer than it should have in my first game to figure out that you didn't have to go to the war table in order to travel to different areas...such an idiot. :P

I spent about half a playthrough in ignorance of the significance of the compass flash and direction indicator when using the search function. I thought "Why the heck do they expect me to do completely random searches in a large territory? I'll never find anything except by random chance!"

Then I entered Chateau d'Onterre and got a second chance at viewing the tutorial. *facepalm*. I had missed the tutorial the first time because there were so many other things I had to learn.

It took me a couple of playthroughs to realize all schematics gained a Masterwork Slot once at Skyhold with Dagna. And, it has taken many hours to figure out the armor naming system (did they make it difficult on purpose?).

Also took forever to realize I could cut through Solas' room to see Dorian and turn in research items. And, the first door to the left across from Varric lets you hop out to the garden.

And, on my first time through, I spent forever trying to craft my Specialization item, til I finally figured out it was a Recipe, and needed to be made at the Requisition Table. I am not the brightest bulb in the socket.

I didn't figure out to how effectively deal with the guard mechanic until very late in the game and so many boss fights took a lot longer than they needed to.

I've have had two big "D'oh" moments. The first was in the beginning and I went to explore the outskirts of Haven in the tutorial and I found those Shades by the fire, well, the last one somehow ended up inside a boulder and my party chased after it and went through the boulder. I...could not go through the boulder, lol!

Then my other "D'oh" moment was when the Hinterlands dragon kept blowing fireballs at my mage, I even used Fadestep a few times and I still got a face full of flame.

There is a large gate, the Gate of Toth, I think it's called, in the Western Approach, that can "only be opened with some sort of mechanism". In my first playthrough I spent a good 5 hrs looking around the Approach for something to open that gate, then another hour trying to hop up the damn mountains to go around it, only to learn on my second playthrough that the way to open it was a damned lever attached to the gate. I threw a big fit after that. :?

I thought there was no way to get to Redcilffe without defeating or running past that dragon in the Hinterlands. So I went away and leveled up for hours, and then realized there's actually a path directly to the village.

Yeah that gate got on my nerves too, though I never guessed that the gate was meant to be opened after you complete the zone and arrest the bad dude, basically. I figured I would get the mechanism while questing somewhere and when I opened it from the other side after almost completing everything I had this face on:  .

I didn't bother with the War Table so much my first playthrough and completely missed Dagna and subsequently the side quest to investigate Samson.  That was a pretty big d'oh moment for me.

Thank God I'm not the only one that did this. I hate crafting so I didn't miss the fact that I had no way make runes either. I just kind of had this little thought of " Hey, wasn't Dagna supposed to make a cameo?" so I googled it thinking maybe she only appears on the Templar path. Nope, just gotta do the farmville missions in order to get her.

I once forgot how to spell "of."

Wait, you mean in-game:

On two occasions in the Western Approach, I put my poor party through some crazy parkour-attempts to reach a hidden secret/ocularum ...

Had I walked two dozen meters or so further and paid some bloody attention, I would have noticed the ladders leading up ...

I feel your pain.

I fought one of the battles in the winter palace 4 times, dying horriblly each time before realizing that my party were wearing their formal uniforms and therefore entirely unarmored. On the plus side, I did better each time and almost succeeded the last time because it really taught me to maximize my use of abilities, lol.

Yours too. It took me, longer than I'd care to admit, why I was running through Health potions like candy and why fights against cannon fodder took minutes.

Craft armor with really cool enchantment......Finds out current gear has better protection.

I made myself a spreadsheet of what weapons & armor they all had equipped because I was tired of doing this.

For me, I'd add using Sera's Leaping shot to fly directly off the map.  Or worse, when I finally clear out the corpse archers in the Fallow Mire, who spawn when the character you're controlling goes too far in the water, I use Leaping Shot again, which takes me back into the water and the fun starts again.

As far as I understand, the throne accessories are an upgrade added automatically to all thrones except the one from the deluxe edition. (It is suppose to increase the resources you advisers gather from those repeatable missions)

As for my d'oh moments:

Only in my second PT did I learned that you can unlock operation to access even more maps. For example: while I planted that flag to unlock the operation for Ghilan'nan passage, I didn't noticed the text prompt, not did I made the connection between that and the new area to unlock on my war table. I jumped around like a mountain goat on those rocks for hours, trying to get to that camp and kill the templar for Cassandra's quest. And I still can't find the mage tower. Not my best moment.

Wait, what? So you get the accessories by doing the resource missions? Like, Hissing Wastes Resources and Gather Leather and stuff?

Pretty much. You can read here and here for some details, if you haven't.

I found out from the forum how to hold-click a character to revive them during combat. I'd already beaten the game once without it. I'd probably still not know, if I hadn't seen it here.

Think I was midway through my 2nd playthrough when I discovered this.
