This isn't my first thread about this and I think it won't be my last until BioWare finally patches the retardation out of the companion AI.

It's already bad enough that we can no longer use our own tactics like in DAO or DAII, but if we're already deprived of that tool, I at the very least expect that the game's AI is capable of telling its bloody archers/mages to NOT run right in the thick of combat and try to kiss every damn melee character Orlais-style.

It makes combat so headache-inducingly asinine I can't even play the game for extended periods of time because I just need breaks before I break something myself. I haven't even finished my first playthrough (last main quest was "Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts") and am only playing on hard, ffs. I don't even want to imagine how it would be on nightmare with FF on.

BioWare, please ...

Expect to keep making threads until at least Dragon Age 4. Fixing Companion AI is too big a change for patches.

I am under no illusion that this is a huge request, but the current state is of the AI is so abysmal with the limited strategical input the player can choose (not even a "stay behind" option, just "follow character X" in the behavious settings, really?!) that I feel it is some that has to be adressed in some form. Because in its current form, I don't see me ever finishing a single playthrough because it's so bad. I finished every other BioWare game I bought up to date within the first week because I hardly could stop myself from playing, but with DAI I have to motivate myself with "you bought the game, give it a chance, finish it at least ONCE" -> *stupid AI goes suicidal in combat again* -> "f*ck this, I have better games to play" -> Alt+F4

Play the game the way it was intended. On Casual with friendly fire switched off.

The combat isn't fun. It stinks. Best get it over with fast.

... and then what? Finally tackle all those tough skill checks? Oh, and all those tricky conversations?

Gameplay in DA:I is all combat. If you get "over it fast", you have no gameplay left. I do enjoy the stunning vistas and talking to people, though.

They should AT LEAST fix the "HOLD POSITION". What the heck happened to the AI-scripting/coding like in DA:O where you could leave your party members behind for 'miles'. Stealthy Leliana who went for a reconnaisance for instance. And what's with the 'DEFEND' option in DA:I? Does it even work?
