Skyhold is a nice place to have your Inquistion. The downside of the place is even as the game progress, the place still looks dumpy and not to mention the “Build this quest” are downright…well dumb amoung other issues.

So here are some suggestions:

Those Build Quests:

I for one am fine with the choice when it comes to The Tower and The Garden-it does make sense. However when it comes to improving the Courtyard, the choice is ridcilous. Really? Imfinmary or a Sparing Ring? They do not even use the same plot.

So could be done?

Remove the choice all together. There is enough room in the Courtyard and enough Quarries and Lumber piles to make BOTH.

Beyond that the choices you make SHOULD apply to your advisors.

Garden:

Chantry Garden: Lilly gets a 5% time deduction on War Table Missions

Comfort Garden: Josie gets a 5% time deduction on War Table Missions

Tower:

Templar Tower: Cullen gets a 5% time deduction on War Table Missions

Mage Tower: Lilly gets a 5% time decution on War Table Missions.

Coutryard:

Imfinmary: Josie gets a 5% time deduction on War Table Missions.

Sparring Ring: Cullen gets a 5% deduction on War Table Missions.

The Walls:

Nothing like finding all these quarries and lumber piles only to have a major of finding them pointless.. Not only that depending on how you chose the woman’s fate from Sarni you get 500 tons of granite.

As in “Awakening” there should be a dwarf who is offering not only to fix your walls but reforce them. He gies you a quest for “X” amount of lumber and quarries need.

Once you get to a certain point on the walls, the dwarf will give you a war table mission. The mission is basically him neededing extra materials to reinforce Skyhold’s walls.

The finish project ends up making the walls look sturdy and new. Archers are posted on the walls, trebuchets are scattered about.

Basically it looks like walls a castle should have.

The War Table:

First of all the War Table needs to be cleaned-up. Once a mission is completed there is NO reason to have the marker there.

Cut the timers down please. I already run long missions while I am sleeping. However by the time I get late in the game and have an overabundance of missions, they generally take presedence. When I see the “Contact the Hero of Feredlan “ takes 16 damn hours to complete, I end up skipping it. Four or Six hours, sure, but 16 hours? Come on. Simply put: War Table Mission should not exceed past the 8 hour marker.

I was looking through my DAI art book and I found out you could change the style of the War Table. Uh, I do not understand why this feature was removed but it should be put back in.

Day/Night:

Bioware this is 2015, not 20 or 30 years ago. I understand and can accept there not being a day/night cycle while wandering the open world. However Skyhold should have this.

This simple feature could add a lot of realism and depth to the game. You can add in quests that only take place at night. Or if your romance is “cemented” and its night time you can ask your romance to go to bed with you (AKA smexy time).

Your Inquisitor’s Quarters:

As it stands now The Inquistor’s Quarters ARE pointless.  Granted it could be used as role playing purposes, but even as a light role player myself, I find it difficult to do anything here.

You have a desk, it should be useable. Sit down at your desk every once and a while to get: speical war table missions, letters/notes from your romance.  This is one thing I enjoyed about Assassins Creed:Unity. Your assassins sitting down at his chair reading new letters.

Your couch should be useable too. Sit down and read a new book someone was kind enough to drop off for you. Thus it unlocks a new codex.

If its nightime and wish it to be day or vise versa, sleep in your bed.

Walk around your room to find random stuff to click on, like in DA2. Maybe you walk into your room and find Sera smeared jelly all over your bedding. As time moves on in the game, these interactions change.

The “hole” in the hallway.

I find it downright tacky and perplexing as to why in the hall inbetween your room and the exit there is this pit that you cannot get too.

A ladder or some stairs could lead down. Here you will find a storage chest, manquiens to display arms and armor. There are even bookshelfs to where you can store codex’s  you have found on your journeys.  Yes, it sounds rather Elder of Scrolls, but at least Bethesda got a lot right when it comes to storage and understanding the hoarders and/or those who wish to role play.

More Agents:

I really, really do not understand as to why The Hinterlands has a dump fest of agents then after that it becomes scarce to even run into an agent.

There should be more base agents for the advisors. Beyond that there should be more merchants you can recruit. There is so much space in the courtyard to add in some more stores. Not only that the ability to improve the stalls making them much more appealing.

Improve the Stable:

Considering you got horses for The Inquisition the Stables should reflect this and not just for your Inquisitor. A few more stalls with horses seen in them. Also fix Master Dennet. I would like to see him  doing his job. Feeding the horses, cleaning the stables, brushing the horses etc.

The Courtyard Entrance needs improvement:

Nothing like getting to the end of the game and see a corpse still laying out by the tents. You should have a quest to improve the Coutyard Entrance. When the upgrade is complete the tents are removed as are the dead and/or dying people. Stone benches are placed, as well as a beatiful four-tier fountain topped with the Inquistion’s symbol (of course you can change the style of the benches and the fountain in the Undercroft). Now random people will be gathered sitting and talking. Some maybe sitting and reading. Others will be standing talking.

More Judgements:

In Awaknening you had the chance to judge those within your Keep. In DAI it comes off as feeling like everyone is holding hands, skipping through a field of daises and singing. How about a person who started a bar fight? A solider who abandon his post to go get drunk? And depdending on the sentence it MAY unlock a War Table Mission.

Treasurey Table:

I’ve said this numerous times and I will say it again, this should be in the game. The Requistions are pointless, The Inquistion does not actually use any of the stuff.  However they could be used.

The Requistions become important by making them important. So if soliders need anti-venom, the requstion is filled you have healthier soliders. By not refilling this requsitons soilders become more sick and it reflects this by visting the infirmary and over hearing soilders in Skyhold talk about “sickness” going around.

Once a Requistion is completed in that area, its done. There is NO need to repeat it for a a power point and xp over and over again.

As for gather metals in the area, these should be used too. Once you fill a requestion, it unlocks a War Table mission. Miners want to come out in that region and mine. Thus they are recruited into Inqusition, improving trade and coin within Skyhold. Again once a metal requstion is completed, it no longer appears.

Down within the depths of Skyhold there is a room with a giant book. There should be a gentleman sitting/standing there who is the treasurer of Skyhold. The book has been updated to let you know what Skyhold needs.

So lets say you click on the book. Well Skyhold’s coin is a bit low, send an advisor out to gather more coin.

Well, looks like Skyhold needs more cloth, send an advisor out to gather more.

Letting the treasurary book slide, will result in consequences.

Using the cloth example above. IF your Inqusitor does not help with it, people around Skyhold will start to look ragged. Healers will complain there is nothing to use for bandages. IF you ignore it for too long your Power Points suffer and you end up lossing one point until it is filled.

If you do not help with the Inqustions coin again Skyhold will show. Food will have a hard time being delivered, people will complain they are hungry. The walls will start looking a bit worse for ware. Soilders armor will start looking ragged etc. Again waiting too long to fix this issue will result in losing power points until it is filled.

**********************************

At any rate, I’ve rambled on long enough. Remember these are just suggestions. All I know is as of right now Skyhold needs help and to make you feel like your Inqusitor is actually running an Inqusiton.

Giving your Inqusitor a castle for the organization is one thing but not having them do anything to really improve and have that improvement reflect within the game, makes the purpose of having Skyhold pointless.

In the words of Cullen, “Not saying this is the answer, but something needs to change."

*snips all the wonderful suggestions*

Agree 100%.  Skyhold should be more than what we get in the game.

The upgrades should do, something.

Heck, just make building them create an Inquisition Perk for example. Upgrade to a garden = better cuttings. Upgrade to a chantry garden = chantry knowledge or something like that. The problem is they are purely for looks and the looks aren't that good - especially the sparring ring which creates a ton of issues with cut scenes taking place in that part of the keep.

I like these suggestions! I hadn't thought of half of them myself :P

It'd be great to see some of this implemented in patches or future content

I completely agree with these! I had noticed that after some key missions, the castle gets tidier (scaffolding is removed, etc.) However that's never completely finished. Even after finishing the storyline there is rubble everywhere and holes in the walls.

I also completely agree with the quarters suggestion. I mentioned it in another thread, Bioware have clearly spent a lot of time developing some really brilliant unique weapons and amour only to have them sold after a level up to free up personal storage space.

Also, Dragon head trophy room in the room outside the library or the 'room with the big book'.

I've run into enough things to see that skyhold also lost in the schedule to meet launch, similar to Crestwood which appeared like a major step back.  There are also areas where the frostbite boundaries need some 20% extra space to allow the Characters to move properly throughout the game.  Hopefully much of the missing and broken will be addressed in the next patch/DLC.

It is in Bioware's best interest to make DA3 a test bed for their newer products while developing DLC for DA3 as there are a lot of system issues that need to be addressed like stability with the frostbite interface, the battle model and NPC behaviors, to name a few.

You may also want to look at the quest suggestions for skyhold, most cover mining, history and additional battles.

For once that was a long post I read all the way through, and I agree 100%. Haven is a nicer place to be until it gets buried of course.

100% this. Fantastic suggestions.

It really urks me that Gatsi (the guy responsible for the repairs) is standing around in the main hall for the bulk of the game talking about researching mosaics! WTF. There are still holes everywhere!

I really want to be able to have more to do in my chambers. (No not that! Well I mean that would be ok but I digress).

It is such a beautiful room I just want spend more time in there doing something. It just seems so wasted. It also needs more stuff. A few plants here and there. More furniture as well.  And a way we can add more of our individual style/taste.

Definitely. It was such a great room, it just felt wasted. You only ever end up in there a couple of times.

Here's another one who agrees! It has always bothered me...a lot. Mostly the walls and towers, I mean come on, Cullen your general sleeps in a tower with half a roof?

But the most bothersome thing is, like the OP wrote, what I do with Skyhold doesn't feel like it matters at alls :S

I think that there was supposed to have been a battle, like in Awakening (oh what I would give to have that..).

Corypheus arrives and attacks, you have to defend Skyhold or Skyhold needs to stand on it's on while you face Corypheus.

Depending on how many upgrades you made the battle goes a certain way, your companions and/or advisors could even die (Another thing that bothers me, except for my first time in the Redcliffe caste time travel thing I have never feared for a companion! I want to be able to lose them, that would make every descision harder and mean more) Now I walk through the game, feeling like I could never lose. (Spoiler for the Fade now, spoilertags just doesn't seem to work for me :S : I have to give them an applaud for making you choose between your Hawke and Alistair, that was damn tuff! Lesser so with Stroud or Loghain, but still. Bravo, give me more of that please!)

I agree Everything the OP wrote, let the requisitions at least be a mix of seemingly useless stuff and some things that actually matters.

Let us fix up Skyhold properly! The resources are there, it's just stupid not to.

Although I don't totally agree, this is one of the complaints about DAI in general, all style and no substance. Many. many times I felt "dressed up with no where to go." :(

Oh, and another thing that I completely forgot about...

"My" room! Like others already have said, we have this amazing room and yet nothing goes on in there! Other than Bull mysteriosly showing up wanting to have sex even though I did not romance him, Blackwall showing up once...and the romantic end scenes. Thats the ONLY thing I have done in there. And you know...change my bed that goes sadly unused..

Yes, bring back the "click on random stuff and have a laugh" from DAII. And let there be some random cutscene or conversation in there, maybe not that many but something that makes it worthwhile to go in there. And I don't know, have your companions stand there at random sometimes? And just for a short talk "I like our room" or something...it doesn't have to be big.

And yes, something to do mission, like reading letters! Hawke got letters. It doesn't even have to trigger quests, but like for your Trevalyan "your parents miss you" or something, personal letters to the Inquisitor. And as the OP wrote, letters from your loved one. That would be so awesome.

Excellent suggestions!  Even small things like Dennet actually taking care of the horses would go a long way to add to the feeling that this is a living, breathing community.  Skyhold is nice at first glance, but there is very little attention to detail and there are too many wasted opportunities for it to truly stand out as a headquarters... if even half of these suggestions had been implemented, it would have improved the experience greatly.

I agree with those suggestions too. Allow me to add my own: instead of lowering the time for war table missions, why don't the agents we recruit give us Inquisition perks? The gathering of influence feels so artificial. How does making Dwarven puzzle boxes for my soldiers to play with give me influence?

For example: that merchant we recruit in Val Royaux after meeting with the clerics there, why doesn't she give us one of the connections perks? It would make recruiting agents more worthwhile than just cutting the time on the war table.

Frederic in the Western approach could give us the perk that increases experience from creature research. Michel de Chevin could give us the increased combat experience perk, etc.

Just reading this makes me bummed that we didn't have half of these things.

I know people are probably tired of the Skyrim comparisons, but the way Hearthfire treated gathering supplies for improvements was ace.  It's odd to me that I had more options to customize a random, unfortified woodlands house, that's home to 4 people, than I do a massive castle that's home to hundreds and the headquarters to one of the most powerful forces on the continent.

I ran out of likes before I found this.  Wow.  Wonderful bit of thought into the various aspects of the game.  If Bioware implemented even a portion of these, the game would be immeasurably more entertaining.  :D

Love these ideas.

Another thing that felt like a gaping hole is the inability to actually USE Skyhold's little chapel.

In Origins your Warden can donate to the Chantry and show respect to relics.  In DA2 your Hawke can repeatedly ask for the Mother's blessing.

In Inquisition the freakin' HERALD OF ANDRASTE can't pray, meditate, receive a blessing, or even pick up that candle stand to make it look tidier.  :pinched:

The hole in the roof of Cullen's room. XD

We can make Skyhold look pretty, but we can't fix a damned HOLE in the ROOF.
