Which map did you like best? And why did you like them?
If you are to chose the three maps you liked best which ones would it be?
I'll start with my choices, in priority order:
1. The Winter Palace. This map really impressed me with its design and interior, music and ambience. You had an intens feeeling of being in a palace with a large crowd. The music was well chosen.
2. The Hissing Wastes. A dark, empty and dry place. Almost suffocating. It had an aura of ancient mystic sorrounding it.
3. The Emerald Graves. It was like stepping into a fairy tale. And you could almost smell the leaves and flowers.
The Winter Palace
The Hissing Wastes
The Emerald Graves
My personal choice is first of all based on design and atmosphere. My second priority is how well the textures and their colors are harmonically arranged. It must also give me a feeling of realism. I want an illusion that doesn't break.
I also liked Crestwood a lot because of the rainy weather and Skyhold for its architectural design, but I can only chose three and leave them out.
The design of a map is extremely important for the experience a game gives you.
All in all I would rate the maps in Dragon Age: Inquisition very high. On a scale of ten I would give it 9.5. Not just because of the visual design but also because of the repeated use was well camouflaged.

So...a collection of amber colored corridors, a big square of nothing and a map out of Kingdoms of Amalur. God, those 3 were disappointing. Not as muchb as Val Royaux though.
I like Hinterlands, Crestwood and the Western Approach because they actually felt like open world maps. And Crestwood had that cool change.

Walking around the Hissing wastes at night was very atmospheric, makes me wish all the areas had a day/night cycle.

All have great things to love, but I would have to say Crestwood wins for the things it has over the other maps.
I really like Hissing Wastes too. I didn't even go there in my first play, so in my 2nd game it was all fresh. I had no idea there was a dragon there, so when I found that, it was a great moment.

Have to agree with those three. I also like Western Approach, even though it sucks you have to leave to Skyhold twice to unlock all of it.
Hissing Wastes is probably my most favorite map. It's big, dark, has dangerous enemies and a real reason to use a horse. Also i like how you can see the initially distant Sunstop Mountains from everywhere in the map. And then find out the map actually stretches behind them.
Emerald Graves is my second favorite, just look upwards, the sunshaft effect trough the tall trees is beautiful.
The Winter Palace... well it's a palace. Lots of shiny
Mostly i like it because of the quest that happens there.

Well i say Western Approach, Emerald Graves and Empire DU Lion.
Western Approach had that deserty cacti moutainous region look and seem very well detailed with the constant sand gusts. Even when you open more of it up it still seem pretty big. I still like how from up close and from afar how the two statues take a commanding presence.
Emerald Graves is very big, open, rocky and colorfully green. It looks very lush to me.
Empire Du Lion is very cold looking but with the red Lyrium pillars almost everywhere I get a rough sense of dread and how I am expecting evil people around every corner. Fort Drakon makes me expect a big ugly dude too.

Empress Du Lion
I liked the coliseums on the other side of the bridge. I liked the lengths you had to go through to take the fort. Supply caches were few and far between on that one.
The frozen lakes, the caves, tunnels, ruins. I just thought the whole wintry scene was awesome.

1. Emerald Graves, because it's the first time a DA forest has really felt like a forest. It was gorgeous, and I loved the light effects through the trees.
2. Hissing Wastes, because I loved how big and desolate it felt.
3. Emprise du Lion, because the snowy forests, ice, and red lyrium shards everywhere were intensely beautiful. Plus, dragons in coliseums!

Loved the red lyrium spikes everywhere, really made me feel like something nasty was always nearby. Then crossing the newly repaired bridge and seeing two dragons circling....

Hissing Wastes at the top of the list. More than any of the others, it felt so vast. Also, more than any of the others, it made me want to use a horse to get around.

- Crestwood for being the most dynamic (change in weather and daytime, draining the lake, etc.)
- Emerald Graves for the beautiful forest landscape and some actual exploring quests without markers or such
- Emprise du Lion because the snowy old trees looked really great
But all the maps have their charm IMO. There is not really a countryside map I didn't like.

I loved the atmosphere of the Hissing wastes. It's a shame there wasn't a bigger story quest there.
I also liked:
Emerald graves - the vibrant colours and Orlesian mansions are awesome
Emprise du Lion - the snow was a welcome change from the other areas and I loved the old bridge and ruins. The quest of gaining ground against the Red templars and Michel with the demon was also quite interesting imo
Crestwood - the rain and lighting was great and I also liked the change after the main quest ends
Storm coast - again different from the others and I loved the waves. I also liked that it was a smaller area where you just travelled along the coastline.
Least Favourite:
The Fallow mire - a bit boring imo. I thought the undead in the marsh were very similar to Crestwood and also used a lot in other games
Exalted plains - more undead again and again... and again... plus most of the area with the battlements is really depressing imo. I like the more vibrant part with the dalish clan and elven ruins though

They're all fantastic imo, but my absolute favorite is the Emerald Graves.
Runner up would be Emprise du Lion.
Southern Orlais is absolutely beautiful.

Emerald Graves: Lush, and a nice balance of things to do the manor was a surprise.
Crestwood: Huge map but so well balanced with the main quest.
Storm Coast: Love it, rain rain rain.

Emprise du Lion. Although I tend to love snowy maps in most games I play. I also really like the Hissing Wastes, mainly for the ancient places hidden away in the deep places of that map. There was something very eerie about the Hissing Wastes. Maybe a mixture of the silence, the ruins, and the fact it stretches away forever into nothingness.

I love Emprise du Lion as well but when I think about it all I can see is red lyrium. ![]()

Like them all so it's hard to choose.
Hissing Wastes - where's my Fremen suit?
Wish there's a night/day cycle, imagine the glaring heat.
Emprise du Lion - snow and ice
Arbor Wilds - lost in the lush colours and beauty. Too bad it's a small map

Now on my fourth character (although I've only fully completed with one) and though I loved the Emerald Graves initially it's charm has weakened.
I think the Hinterlands is probably the favourite, though Hissing Wastes has a claim.
