I always thought the squadmate that was used least will tell Joker to leave. Ashley said in in my playthrough, and she also complained in the Citadel DLC about never getting picked.

I had LIara, Javik, Garrus, James and even edi say that in the dlc

That makes sense and from vague recollections of my previous playthroughs, my experience is the same as yours.

 

It was certainly never Liara, but she gets used the most. Of course, by the time Normandy leaves Sol, she's already confined to the med-bay, her having been hurt in the beam run, since she's always my LI.

And here I was thinking that there could be an argument between Javik and Joker, and Javik tells him to GTFO.

I always got Ashley for this scene put in my playthrough that kind of makes it a really profound scene.

 

As Ash was my Shepard's LI in Mass Effect 1 but not in the sequels, I always took seeing her telling Joker that it was time to go was her finally letting go of Shepard but in the most tragic way possible.

 

Kinda glad I got her and not any of the others. Especially Javik. I thought instead of leaving he'd demand to stay so he can watch all the Reapers BURN!!!!
