I know that this is a touch obvious...but this game is SO HUGE.

I'm a lvl 14 archer assassin who's 45 hours in, I've only just discovered The Hissing Wastes. I still have Western Approach and 3 or 4 areas to discover. I've only killed one dragon (Crestwood). I plan to do the Wicked Hearts mission when I hit lvl 15, but, as I want to do as much exploring as possible before I finish the game, I may delay that.

My point is, does anyone think it's overwhelming? In a good or bad way. I find it stressful trying to think where to go next.

It's not overwhelming if you do one area at a time.

Seems that way, but as large as the areas are, there's very little that really needs to be done in the areas. But yes completely filling in the empty spaces is a huge undertaking.
My completionist playthroughs are generally slightly over the hundred hour mark.

They can be overwhelming, which is one reason why I would've preferred more story-focused areas, but fewer of them.

yeah problem with an excess of optional content is they can't spend as much time developing it meaning it's just there with very little meaning.

It's one of the problems with the game. Too much space but no meaningful content. For the most part, you'll be doing the same bunch of side quests in each of those big areas.

It does get easier if you do one area at time, though.

Took me over 250 hours to finish my first playthrough.  Felt like a total grind for, oh... only about the middle 150 hours.  I (finally) realized that after I'd acquired enough Power/Influence to advance the plot, almost all the side quests were a waste of my time.

Absolutely loved the final 20 though!

Now that I'm in my second run, I'm having much more fun. B)

There is no need to try and explore and complete everything in a single campaign; simply do those quests and areas that fit your Inquisitor.

True that. I've finished both my games with 160 power or so with everything unlocked.

Yeah, I'm trying to focus on one area at a time, but there's always something that pops up elsewhere to distract me. For example, I've done the bulk of the Hinterlands, The Fallow Mire, The Forbidden Oasis and The Storm Coast.

But, I need to think about finally defeating that ****** of a dragon in the Hinterlands, opening all the shard doors in the Oasis, the red lyrium in Storm Coast etc. It seems that to do EVERYTHING in an area, I need to go somewhere else to level up or get something. I'm a bit of a completionist, so becomes pretty stressful.

The game is incredible, but the side quests could certainly be better. The main side quest of an area is usually very good, but the tangential ones seem like fillers (locating a lost party etc). I guess they force you to explore the map, but they're not as creative as, say, Skyrim. Having to make sure that everyone in the party has the best gear is another issue!

This isn't a complaint, this game is an exceptional achievement, just blowing off some steam.
