It's no secret that, with sheer diligence, a player and/or group of players can essentially hit a gearing/promotion level that makes the current iteration of DAMP trivial. Yes, even on Perilous. This is something I came face to face with not so long ago. I really like DAMP. There aren't many 3rd person shooter/adventure co-op games out there and even fewer set in a fantasy setting. So I didn't want to just up and quit or come back a couple months later because, chances are, I doubt I would. I'm not really like that.
So, craving that challenge, I began setting self imposed limitations on myself in order to artificially create more difficult environments. I'm just that kind of person. I crave that challenge. REALISTIC challenge. Goals that push you to become a better player. Not goals that are simply overcome by RNG (i.e. loot) or mindless tenacity (i.e. promoting 'til your eyes bleed).
Because, to me, the reward is in the satisfaction of accomplishment. It's not the title, the gear or some prestige number that, literally, amounts to nothing. To me these things (like gear) are tools that unlock new challenges and when those challenges are no longer, well, challenging then it's time to move on.
Anywho, I digress.
I've noticed some posts these last couple nights from forumites that reflect my own disheartenment (<<--- I just made that up, you like it?) and original craving for legitimate challenges to not only push yourself as a player but as a team. Here are a few of my favorites that I like to do either solo or with a few of my friends (when I can talk them into doing them
):
Gear? We don't need no stinkin' gear!
Objective is simple, solo Routine with default gear. No accessories. If in a group, go for Threatening.
Send in the recruits!
Solo Threatening with only one ability. If in a group, go for Perilous.
The 'One Health Bar' Challenge
My personal favorite. Solo Threatening with no healing potions, no healing gear *OR* recovery stations. If in a group, only door rezzing allowed.
So, if you're like me, try giving these a whirl. Or, if you've invented some of your own, let me know and I'll try 'em out. If you decide to give these challenges a try I guarantee you two things:
A.) You're going to find good uses for some of the lesser used pots/grenades and...
B.) Many laughs will be had. Especially if you're doing the 'One Health Bar' with a group of friends.
Thanks for reading.
