Disclaimer: I am a HUGE fan of N7 Piranha. It is literally the only shotgun I uses on anything. (I use crusader too but that's not a shotgun) Note that this is only a preference and no hate on claymore is implied.

 

So what do you think? Which kits do you use the claymore on and would you consider replacing it with other weapons?

 

Things that piranha does better than claymore:

1. piranha guarantees headshots due to recoil.

2. piranha can (and in many cases, will) kill more than one target be4 reloading.

3. reload canceling every 1 second isn't exactly the most fun thing to do. (dependent on the player tho)

4. more shots on the same target means he's more likely to be primed for combo if you're using incendiary, cryo, disruptor ammo

5. missing a shot isn't so big a deal on piranha.

6. If you're using adept/engineer and you want to keep your cdr (and please dont tell me cdr is overrated. piranha Has advantage over claymore in some area and that's what I'm saying)

7. If you're using kits with fire rate/magazine size modifiers, eg marksman eg devastator mode

 

another disclaimer: none of my arguments are supposed to prove that piranha is better than claymore. In fact I do not believe that piranha is better than claymore, as much as I don't believe a good weapon has to be either superior or inferior to another good weapon. As for all the analyses out there bombarding on my lame arguments, you can have your win. I wasn't trying to convince you into using piranha in the first place (rather, as suggested by the title, it is exactly the opposite: trying to convince myself into using claymore)

I will drop the claymore if there is a volus in the forum. The claymore is constantly reloading, and a shield boost while reloading breaks the gun. Of course, you don't know it until you pull the trigger and nothing happens. If the volus is shield boost spammer, as some PUGs are, the claymore is nearly worthless. 

 

I also drop the claymore if I have marksman or ARush, in favor of piranha or wraith. And if I drop down to silver with more husks and such running around, the claymore is just too much work.

The Talon is the best 'shotgun'.

 

Seriosly though, I like using the Pirahna on the Juggy.  Pure weapons build and just murder everything.

I don't give these out often, but here's a serious answer: you might consider using a different weapon when you want to use mods (i.e. omniblade, high velocity barrel) on a shotgun and not have the weight affected (for cooldowns). They are bugged and won't add weight to most shotguns, like the Claymore (or Wraith, which makes the most of it IMO).

One case I can think of is that the 80% bonus dmg from TC is better off placed on a shot that hits harder. But I can also argue that the lightweight nature of piranha allows power usage more often, and not having TC when a horde finds you really sucks.

 

So what do you think? Which kits do you use the claymore on and would you consider replacing it with other weapons?

You only you use the Piranha and the Crusader?  And what kit don't you use Claymore on, at least every now and then? I can't think of a single kit that I use (i.e. I rarely if ever use Volus... like, ever) that I never use the Claymore on.

For me I'd say the only time I'd take the Piranha over the Claymore is on one on one battles with big armor enemies since then the ROF of the Piranha really shines. But even so a reload canceled Claymore can probably keep up anyway. Claymore OHK most mook enemies, and if being used with Tac Cloak Claymore wins every time because one shot gets the damage bonus whereas with the Piranha it loses out of that damage near the end of the clip. But look and feel play a big part for me as well and the Claymore and Raider just sound amazing and feel like they do a ton of damage. GI Piranha is still probably the most damaging setup in the game, but between the two I'd take Claymore 95% of the time, unless it really really screws my cooldown.

I use the Piranha on the KroDept though; with your CDs being increased from Barrier the last thing you need is them being cripped by chucking a heavy weapon on as well.

Possibly, though the Piranha recoil would still be an issue on big maps, except for the turian soldier.

Ordinarily - I'm with you; I use the Graal (best shotgun in the game IMO) on the Krentinel and KroLord and the Striker on the Kroldier.

 

The KroDept (Piranha) and KroGuard (Raider) ... I ... yeah. Space Magic Krogan can borrow other people's shotguns OK!

 

 

 

 

 

 

... apart from the Reegar. Never the Reegar. Especially not on the KroGuard - it takes all the damned fun out of the kit.

I have stopped using the piranha, i wonder why. Maybe cause of the weight bug and HVB and reload cancelling. The clip feels very smal too on HM/MM kit.

I am a big  Claymoar fan and IMO it the best gun challeneged only by the Talon, But i will try not to sound as fanboy.

I will not use Claymoar on classes like Human Engineer where I would want to detonate my own Tech explosions. But then, when cooldowns are that improtant for me I would not use Piranha either. Or any other shotgun for that matter. Pistols or SMG with power mod are much better choice.

Otherise GPS, Graal, Crusader, Wraith, Raider are very good shotgun too. And I would use them for variety.

One exception however. I would Use Pirahna over any other guns on N7 Paladin. Because He needs Omni blade attachment yet able to detonate own TB, Cryo, Fire explosions. Also lore.
