So I just crafted a Ornate Battle Axe (Trevelyan Terror) with Dragon Bone (DPS 263) with 50% Critical Chance and 21% Cirtical Damage Bonus. I equipped it with a Superb Demon Slaying Rune for total DPS of 320 or so.  I used Ornate Battle Axe as it has the most leather slots of any 2H weapon.  I used a pommel with 6 total leather slots and a Masterwork Haft with 8 or so.  All in all my Crit Chance is 65% with Cunning and Varric in my party.  I also used a 4 Hit Hidden Blades on the Weapon along with a 3 hit Hidden Blades in my 309 Def Dragon Bone Armor.  Went around Hissing Wastes slaughtering Wyverns.  I still can't tell if I am dealing more damage than I was with my Suledin Blade with a Superb Lightning Rune.  My Strength went down 46 points or so since the new weapon is Critical Chance based. I hope it pays off.  I am done crafting I think.

You better check your attack. it seems your attack would be pretty low. also your weapon damage is only 233, it is much lower than the Suledin Blade. The 320 DPS is came from the demon rune so don't trust it.

You should also use the +15% crit chance mask, and 2 x crit damage rings. then you will have a very decent damage output.

^^ Yeah Attack is 70% with Suledin Blade, its like in the 40s with my new joint.  But 65% crit chance is pretty good.  Every other hit should be a Crit?

That's why I suggest you use the mask and 2 x crit damage ring. With your current gear, you can get 80% crit chance and +100% crit damage, who cares attack anymore XD

^^^ God the Mask of the Grand Dutchess is fugly tho....I love my Venatori Helmet with 18 strength.  But these are compelling points.

I would try out different gear setups and find the one that feels right to you. I wouldn't go any lower than 65% crit chance, I feel like the cool down reduction drops off a bit and can adversely affect your usage of walking fortress making you vulnerable for longer periods.

As far as the mask appearance, can't help you there. Also, that axe sounds well crafted

^^^ Seems like most of my swings on these Wyverns in the Hissing Wastes are hitting for 900 or above.  I am basing this off of Whirlwind.  The first hit is usually in the 400 or 500s, then up around 900-1200 after that.  Not seeing 2000.  I usually hit em with Charging Bull, Fortress, TDD, then Whirlwind.  Wish I could start seeing damage like your video Alren.

Dropped back in to say I did finally succeed in getting my 2Hander into Skyhold on Nightmare. Currently Level 11, and have Stilled the Waters in Crestwood, found the beacons and freed the prisoners in Fallow Mire. Also explored the Exalted Plains to pick up supplies for my Champion specialization. Getting ready to head to The Western Approach and Emerald Graves. It is still not as smooth as my rogue archer at this point in the game, but improving nicely.

Thanks for the help.

Just a small correction. The best schematic for this build is the War Hammer, not the Ornate Battleaxe. It has the exact same slots, except its Damage slot has 22 metal instead of 20, the same as the Anderfels Cleaver and the highest amount there is.

I wouldn't trade in my AoE ability with an Axe for slightly higher damage with a Maul, but that's just my preference.

The hidden blades feature in my crafted axe is really good.  Seems to hit at least one if not more in any encounter.  I took down Kaltenzahn pretty easy, hitting for upwards of 9k in one round of whirlwinds.  Seemed like about 3 or 4 swings in a row hit for that much.  Crazy.

17 Damage is more than a little. And I thought you got Clear a Path to keep spamming whirlwind on multiple enemies instead of auto attacking.

Did you change the build specifically for the dragon fight? I see you have invested at least 5 points in battlemaster on the vid...

Also, at which point in the game should one respec to your build? I am on the early levels of a 2h nm run, and I plan to give your build a try.

I changed a few things around, specifically to get combat roll to assist with staying in range of the target to keep TTD up, and to swap out war cry with challenge for stamina regen. That and by the time I recorded that dragon kill I had more skill points to work with. I typically ran with block and slash over combat roll and war cry over challenge during actual gameplay. The rest of the build is pretty much the same as the guide.

Also, I respecced A LOT during the play through to test out different setups, and to try different strategies. I'll have to load up some saves games and try to develop a more comprehensive progression guide to assist with that pre champion period and to give advice on when to respec and how to respec

Thanks for the input. It would be really helpful this mentioned progression guide!

I've been playing around with your build ( more equipment-wise), and I just wanted to say that I think instead of a superb cunning amulet, that a superb cd amulet might be of more use. In my experience, I find that I can spam WF more often than I am with +10 cunning amulet. Just something that I thought you might want to try out for yourself.

I'll have to try it, that's a good tip

Hey all. Just wanted to pop in and say I'm really enjoying this build. I made a slightly better video than OP had just for proof-of-concept. It's nothing special, just a normal mode Kaltenzahn 1v1 kill with mediocre gear. Basically, even regular people without a whole lot of time invested in the game can pick this up and wreck face!

I'd like to apologize in advance as it took me quite a while to kill it and in order to make the video shorter I sped up the footage, but the in-game sounds were lost in translation. If you want to check it out, it can be found at:

I think the best equipment for this goes

Ornate Battleaxe/War Hammer crafted with the most crit chance you can

Mask of the Grand Duchess / Arishok Vitaar

Superior Prowler with the most Dexterity you can craft

Superb Amulet of Dexterity After you get 50% crit, dexterity is the best attribute you can stack offensively after you exhaust your offense slots

Superb Tonic Belt Obviously if your big damage is gated by the mighty offense tonic, you should carry around as much as you can.

2x Ring of Crit Damage

I have some questions as im switching over from a rogue

Early gear-do you use the early dragon gear you get in haven. Is dps less important and should i be keeping weapons that do better crts early on?
Is prowler armor better even if you have a dwarf? They do have dwarven armor options

As a rogue i use stealth to avoid random spawns as they are time consuming. Any way of doing this as a warrior

Heres a tough 1. When running around hinterlands/exiting hinterlands for first time what is optimal gear for champion. If you still have a savewhat did your warrior have equipped
At what level are people searching for tier 3 schematics and the ingredients for them

Even on novice there have been times ive gotten wiped out

2 Things

1)  This thread is OLD.  And 1.10 and Trespasser changed a lot of things.  That being said if you play on normal or casual it shouldn't matter too much.  But don't be surprised when some of the stuff doesn't work the same way anymore.

2)  This thread is about a Champion 2H build.  Pre-Skyhold a 2H will play differently.  Don't expect to be the tank IMHO.  Something like this works fine pre-Skyhold even with the changes.

http://dragoninquisi...d_Warrior_Build

Although this works well too (even after the changes):

http://forum.bioware...skyhold-builds/

The key is control.  Use skills like charging bull to knock your enemies down.  Matt liked to upgrade grappling chain and mighty blow, and this works great in early game.  You pull them to you, knock them down, and then get some juicy 800% 2H weapon damage on them (which is a lot btw).  Pommel Strike does good damage, is fast, and cheap to use.  Just lots of ideas, but don't expect the game to play the same once you become a champion.

Just wanted to post to say that this thread served as my inspiration. I was torn on which specialization to choose and after seeing this I ended up electing for going a 2H Champion build with high crit. I tweaked some things here and there (found an axe with 48% crit chance and an amulet that increased my chance of landing a crit each time I didn't crit) but all in all I am pleased with the gameplay.

It is VERY fun and I can say that it is still viable if anyone wants to try it.
