High: completed my 2nd gold solo with another exorbitant time (less than an hour, barely). Both were using "easy" mode with Kroguard/Reegar/incendiary ammo. One on Giant and one on Vancouver. I am a true testament to persistence paying off. And enjoying trying to play multiple characters. So I will be sporting my shiny new BotB banner which I expect to confound most pugs when I play with my usual scrubbiness.

au contraire, when I see a BotB banner I expect them to suck

If you can solo gold, then you deserve to sport that banner. B)

I've only played with you briefly, and no scrubbiness was showing at all.You seemed like a solid player.

Worst of the Worst, as it is known among our friends. I have come to expect them to not do missions but there are some pleasant surprises among them.

You clearly don't know him at all. He rage gels, rage quits, and in between he missiles swarmers. Also, no one is safe in the reactor.

Well sure, that's what being "respectable" in this game means. How could you respect someone if they don't even rage-gel or bbq their teammates?

Phantoms never get old. One can melee through obstacle and slice my Asari vanguard in pieces while being invisible and in cover. In that case I guess she had also tac cloak bonus.

Low
When I stopped laughing after that.

High: played a few games on my sweet new PC. Rocking my awesome new manifest, Turian Soldier with Hurricane I ! Only one more game until the magical 120 N7 ranking.

Low: SalInfMR was 'Away' the entire time I was online. :(

HerpDerp: forgot what key I had bound Medi-Gel to, and couldn't get up.

Usually when I am "away" I am just doing something else.  Send me a message and depending who you are I may reply

Nice...

Maybe you've already talked about this elsewhere, but what did you end up with?  Is this a build or a purchase (or hybrid customized purchase)?

Just curious since I recently put together my first complete build, myself.  I live near a Microcenter, and I took advantage of one of their sweet CPU/MB package deals (AMD FX 8320 & ASUS M5A99FX respectively).  Threw in a Zotac GTX 950 GPU too.  Basic 1080p capable system.  Oh yeah, cooling off the 8320 with a trusty CM Hyper 212 Evo.

Good stuff. Got a deal like that from the Egg, but for the 6300 and a couple sticks of G-Skill 1600 memory. Does great for video editing and recording with the same cooler and a mild overclock, and runs the few games I still play without a hiccup.

That's a lot more than a "basic" 1080p system, when a GTX750 handles FullHD with ease.

I'm envisioning something like Witcher 3.  Even at 1080p, a GTX 950 system's game settings will need to be throttled down...at least from the benchmarks I've seen.

But for now, it's been easily handling a steady diet of Minecraft and Roblox from my little guy.

Edit: fixed the mis-wording

Interesting. Out of interest -from the GPU/CPU/MB/RAM tradeoff perspective, which of these components are your first bottleneck in the chain under load ? (For example to handle something heavy like assassins creed)

The CPU spends most of its clock cycles waiting for RAM, the GPU spends most of its clock cycles waiting for VRAM (this has been the case in computing for about the last quarter century, maybe longer - for common processor designs, anyway). Most of the graphics load is borne by the GPU. If you want to build a gaming system, for example, most games won't be able to use the numerical capabilities of an i7, so an i5, even a modest one, is fine, and since the compute load is fairly light, 8GB is enough for nearly all games presently around. You'll get the most benefit from getting a graphics card with more VRAM, the second most from getting a faster GPU, slight benefit from more RAM, and the least from a faster CPU.

Well since this thread has temporarily turned into 'brag about the size of your computer's e-peen', here's mine:

Processor Intel Core i5 4690k Haswell 3.5ghz
RAM G Skill 8GB (2x4GB) 1600
Motherboard MSI H81M-E33
Power Supply XFX 650w Gold
Graphics Card GeForce GTX 750 Ti
SSD Samsung 850 250gb
Monitor (HDMI) Seiki 23"

Obviously more than enough to run ME3, and since I don't plan ever to play any games that burn down my processor or graphics card, this should last me a good long while.

But doesn't that depend on the game and your resolution?  If you're at 1080p, any more than 2GB of VRAM probably won't offer much benefit.  Same with 4GB at 1440p or even 4k.  Unless of course it's a VRAM gobbler title like Shadow of Mordor -- played at a higher resolution.

Well judging by some of the systems I've seen described around here by other posters, they likely don't see our machines as e-peen bragging.

Although you do have yourself a Dirk Diggler-esque PSU.  Nice.  Mine is a Bronze certified 450w job from Solid Gear (kinda cheap).

There's more than just size/volumn to consider. The only reason why a PS3 manages to function/do what it does is because of the transfer speeds. The individual component sizes are utter junk, but they operate are far higher frequencies than normal.

I'll back out now though, since I have no right to enter a PC discussion as I haven't had one in.... 3-4 years? And for the time it was also old, 2.8Ghz C2D with an HD4550, 4GB RAM. It was OK, I got the base computer really cheaply quite a few years back, and upgraded everything as far as the motherboard could handle it.... which wasn't man, the motherboard was a POS. I ran KOTOR and Firefox though, which was good enough for me.

I have to say after years of my old potato quality PC, the new one with its SSD and mega PSU is so quiet and so cool (*) it's unbelievable.

(*) of course my reference for 'cool' is an XBOX 360, so....

And now back to the topic:

High: Platinum game with Brannigan, ctc91, Drake on Vancouver vs. Cerberus. Playing as the Asari Justicar Adept, I placed the sphere near the ladder up from the LZ and we got to explode a ton of Cerberus twerps (and Hunters) in there.

Low: the Phantoms downed me a couple of times. Ph*cking Phantoms!

High: at least they didn't synch kill me.

Extra VRAM will allow the GPU to spend less time waiting for VRAM, especially since most GPUs are massively parallel, but still have a relatively narrow bus to access the VRAM.

The consoles of the last generation were carefully designed for balance, and the PS3 doesn't actually stress its CPU overly, but it does run everything pretty much flat out all the time.

Oh, get a room  toaster thread, you guys. :P Actually not a bad idea, if not existing yet.

Highs: constantly playing Gold now, mostly with friends. Haven't gone to bronze for a few weeks, this is clear progress for me honestly.

Still need to branch out to more kits, and some of the guys suggested going on Platinum with them. I dare not yet (yeah, I'm a wimp), but will let that thought simmer.

Lows: too much work this week, limiting my gaming time! *Grawrr* Will need breaks from work though, so will unwind my brain by killing some reapers.

Low: every Silver (I'm doing promotions) PUG I joined was laggy as hell, which makes learning to volus pretty difficult for me.

High: decided to get Solo Mastery done with two consecutive Geth White Gold Incendiary Reegar Kroguard. They were my first two serious gold solo attempts (i had tried it once without equipment just to check it out, back when I didn't have the rares maxed).

Higher: both 10WS.

Highest: didn't even use any consumables (that is called flawless, right?) in the first one, and it took less than 30 minutes, which makes it quicker than my regular silver solos.

Low: I've discovered that enemy AI is affected by your FPS, which means that in my case they are quite stupid as my laptop runs the game at 32-35 FPS  :(.

Lower: effin promotions still in my way to BotB (along with some of the alien challenges too, but those are fun)
