This post is mainly for my sound issues but if posting my specs helps the connectivity issue in any way then great.

CPU: AMD 64x2 Dual core 6000+
Clock Spd: 3012 Mhz   Phys Memory: 2.99GB
Display: Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX 512mb
Driver: 195.62
Sound: Speakers (realtek High Def Audio) 5.1
Version: 6.0.1.5809

OS: Vista Home Premium
DirectX: DirectX 10.0 (aug2008)

Ive tried going to configure and enabling Audio on. And also tried enabling Off, and default.
Thanks for any help.
Also I confirmed that I should be running in 5.1.
As a bandaid, Ive tuned music down to 10, and effects to 40, with voice up at 100%. With this setup I can here whats happening, but the voices are echo-y.

I am having the same issue. I think that all I am hearing are the 'echos' not the actual voices. Going to try durning down the other sounds and keep up the voice volume.

I had the same issue. When I went into the configuration tool, I found it had set my speakers to 5.1 surround, when I only have 2 speakers. I clicked on the option to change sound settings, changed the speaker option and rescanned and it worked fine

I had the same issue. When I checked the audio option in the configuration tool, it had set my speakers to 5.1 surround. I clecked the change audio settings option and changed it to stereo desktop speakers (which is what I have) and reran the configuration tool. worked ok for me

I think I fixed my low voices problem. I went into the Windows Control Panel and looked at my Sound and Audio Devices->Volumn->Speaker Settings->Advanced Button. Somehow it was set for Dolby 7.1 speaker set up. I use headphones so that was odd, I know I always change it to headphones. Anyways, changed it to match my speaker configuration and I heard voices at a natural level. I only tested it for a short time, I hope it doesn't return.

Bioware, if you come up with a fix for this or need any other information I would like to request that you make it a sticky for what is needed. I actually use 6 speakers and 5.1 is the setting needed to run those, so I know that at least I have that correct.

Thanks again

My configuration was working well, using headphones. Played the game all the way through once, no problems. Started a new character and when I was talking to the scout to start Moridin's loyalty quest, the voice dropped out and now I have the problem. When using surround speakers all is well (I rarely use that since I am in an apartment. Neighors get grumpy with the bass thumpy). If I try to use the headphones now, I don't get voice audio. I've tried all the tricks listed by changing my audio setup to Stereo 2.0, using reference MS drivers and manufacturer drivers. Rerun config, rescan, No joy. Headphones don't work. 5.1 surround works great (grumpy neighbors, remember?) Headphones work great on every other game/whatever, but not ME2 anymore. What happened? Why did this automagically break? HEY BIOWARE, Gimme a Surround checkbox in settings so I can override whatever code is borked in the autodetect. Please indicate which Config file I can edit to override! I can handle EOL conversion or even Hex editing!

In Summary,
Voicees worked fine though headphones, then stopped working midgaime. Win7-64, Realtek HD. Multiple drivers tried. 5.1 voices work fine through speakers. Disabling speakers, setting to Stereo and using only headphones, rescanning, resetting, reloading = Stuck in 5.1 mode. Gimme Control!!!! Image IPB

Thank you for your time

I had the same problem (5.1 sound system with low voice volume). I solved it by un-checking "Center/LFE Swap" AND "Speaker Fill" on my VIA HD Audio Deck control panel. It appears the Center channel signal (voice) was going to the subwoofer (LFE = low frequency effect). Speaker Fill also needs to be un-checked.

I don't know if this is causing the low voice volume problems with Realtek HD audio drivers, but maybe it's worth a try. I have no idea how to navigate the Realtek HD GUI to find these setting.
