I love the tension delivered between the opposite ends of the dichotomies in Dragon Age.  I'm trying to think of all of them.  Can we work to put together a list?  I'll start with some very unscientific points of tension:

 

• Freedom for mages vs. Mages are evil and must be controlled/neutered/eliminated
• Yay, Chantry!  vs. I'm an unbeliever
• Grey Wardens GOOD vs. Meh... Grey Wardens?  Nah.
• Orlesians' poop doesn't stink!  vs. I hate those stuck up jerks!
• Dalish that hate humans vs. Dalish that think humans are OK
• Surface Dwarves vs. Below-the-ground dwellers
• Follow the Qun?  vs.  Nah... I don't follow the Qun

 

 

What others can you guys think of?

Sexuality is a personal matter, separate from faith (per Codex) vs. You must act hetero to carry on a noble family line.

Dalish don't care about the affairs of humans vs. Dalish sent someone to the conclave.

Avaar hate the Hearld vs. Avaar joined Inquisition.

Blood magic is evil vs. magic is just magic, including blood magic.

There is/was a pantheon of Gods vs. There is only one God.

Tranquility is a last resort only vs. it's a suitable punishment for a mage.

No Freedom under the Qun but freedom elsewhere vs. it's all the same, status and wealth give freedom, not religion.

Females shouldn't fight (per Iron Bull) vs. Females are equal to males when it comes to fighting.

I think the first one is more like freedom vs security than freedom vs evil.
