I have an issue with the PS4 version of Dragon Age Inquisition regarding the (frequent) loading screens...  An issue that I have been told from users on PC and XboxOne is exclusive to the PS4, so I would assume a simple patch could correct.

On the loading screen, the game initially cuts to a beautifully rendered fullscreen information page, with the three tabs including fascinating lore from the game.  This is a brilliant way to make the frequent loading screens more bearable.  However, on the PS4 version, the information screen stays up for an average of 5 to 6 seconds (I know because I have recorded and timed these screens), then the screen cuts to a black screen with the loading icon in the bottom right corner.  This black screen then stays onscreen for an average of 25 to 30 seconds.

I have been informed by users on PC and XboxOne that the information screen stays displayed for the majority of the load times, leaving the black screen up for only a few seconds.

This inconsistency on the PS4 has all but ruined the game experience for me, making every single loading screen a battle in frustration as I try to read the information provided, which would not only make the load times bearable but improve immersion due to learning more about the lore of the game world, but am unable to get more than one or two sentences in as the game cuts to black, where it stays for 75% of the load time.

HOW CAN WE GET BIOWARE TO FIX TO THIS (seemingly minor, but essentially game-breaking) ISSUE  (for me), SO THAT THE INFORMATION SCREEN STAYS UP FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE LOAD TIME ON PS4?

Thank you.

At this point I'm honestly just curious...  Am I the only one who has noticed, or been affected by this issue?  I was shocked that I didn't find a million posts regarding this...

I've also have this issue on the Xbox 360 every time the loading screen pops up. I wouldn't mind how long the load actually takes if it actually kept the information screens up for more than a few seconds.

Ok phew, so I'm not the only one.  Does anyone know a way we could get this minor issue added to the next patch??  Anyone know how to contact Bioware directly with QA issues?

I have this black loading screen issue as well but it doesn't bother me at all.

SilentShadows,

I completely hear you, I realize that many will not be bothered by this, but as someone who works in the industry, this is a basic QA issue that should've been addressed before release, and honestly just frustrates me, probably more than it should, but it is such a simple yet glaring oversight that it has impacted my enjoyment of this product, and I believe it should be fixed.

Well, let me assure you that the same happens on PC. Guess what? On my PC. And sometimes it just sits there for minutes and i need to 'hard-kill' the game. -_-

There has been so many problems with PC version of this game that I feel so lucky that there hasn't been any major problems with PS4 version of this game. Besides I tend to overlook these kind of issues and even more severe issues if I really like the game. And I think DAI is the best game ever :)

I think it's great that you are enjoying this game, but from the perspective of someone in the industry, and who has been playing video games now for almost 30 years, when we start overlooking minor issues like this is when we start seeing broken and incomplete games becoming the norm and not the exception...

It's important that consumers don't let game publishers get away with selling us shoddy or poorly tested products.  I think that's why this issue bothers me so much, because it's such a simple oversight, and easy to look past from a user perspective, but could have (should have) been so easily fixed by just acknowledging that this is not the state a game should be sold in.  It's one of the first screens you see when loading up the game, and from anyone who knows anything about development, it's so obvious that the intention was for that Info screen to be up the entirety of the load time, thus solve the frequent loading screen issue.

For me, this breaks the game, mostly because I know it shouldn't be like this, and I have to stare at the black screen over and over and over again, and it's just like salt in the wound.

Hmmmm, that is unfortunate, and odd that my associate indicated that it wasn't the case (especially since he's a game developer).  Maybe he's in the SilentShadows camp and just wasn't affected by it ;)

Well at least we can all suffer together.

I was a bit disheartened when I couldn't read it all either but then I noticed that all that info is from all the codex notes you pick up so you really aren't missing anything .

Its the same issue on the 360. Im a fast reader but not fast enough to even read one card. It makes me sad.

I have both Xbox one and PS4 versions, and yes it happens on both.

Its great in conversations to have a loading screen between switching camera angles in a conversation, or a 30 second - 2 minute pause between conversation and gameplay.

Yeah I know the content is available in the codex, which is great, but doesn't really eliminate the issue created by presenting it during the loading screen and then cutting away from it before you can actually read anything.  This not only crushes my interest in reading the content, but just a bit of my soul as well.  It almost just feels like a slap in the face everytime that screen shows up, and then the 30 seconds of black is just the insult to injury.  So instead of mostly ignoring the loading screen like I do in every other game, this makes the loading screen stand out and draw attention to itself, actually pulling me out of immersion in the game.

I guess you haven't had any other issues with the game? In my opinion this loading screen issue is quite trivial issue because it doesn't prevent me from doing anything and in general I don't find it that annoying. Because I see it as a trivial issue I don't consider the game poorly tested because of it. It could also be that they know that this issue exists but they don't have time to fix it because there are so many other bugs which are more severe than this. I don't know how much time and money should be spend in testing before the game can be published because more you test and fix things the more it costs. Because the game is playable in PS4 so I think there weren't that many major issues which needed fixing in the first place and after patch 2 it is more playable. I think PC players might disagree.

Yeah I totally hear what you are saying...  For what it's worth, I think DAI is a very polished game.  I haven't experienced any noticeable bugs other than some occasional difficulty connecting to the EA servers, which is (sort of) fine.  I do have other issues with the game in terms of systems, story, and gameplay, but I didn't want to bloat my post about the loading screen with other gripes, so this post is purely regarding my complaint about this issue.

I think my point is, that for such an incredibly polished game, this is a glaring oversight.  You are completely correct; this is a fairly trivial issue, and in my opinion, that's exactly what's so frustrating about it.  It's an incredibly minor issue, that the player will see more frequently than almost any other content in the game.  If you put that game in front of any QA tester, they would notice it immediately and flag it.  I'm sure their testers did notice it, Bioware simple chose not to fix it.  This is my problem with this situation.

Before patch 2 there were some bad freezing in certain scenes. I had to skip dialogue so that I could proceed. I think there are still some problems triggering some sidequests but anyway comparing those problems with the loading screen then it's quite minor thing :) But I think I understand why you think it's important.

Yeah of course freezing is an actual game-breaking bug.  I guess my point is that these are not mutually exclusive.  Their team can fix significant bugs and gameplay experience issues as well.  Its a dangerous road to start picking and choosing what QA issues should and should not be fixed, so I think it's just important to shine a light on this issue that doesn't seem to be getting talked about.  If I don't who will!?!!  :)  And ps, I appreciate your respectful discussion on this issue...  more gamers should be like you!

Well I was trying to say that the major bugs should be fixed first and then the minor ones. So they should be done in order if that is possible.

And thank you :)
