the game is locked looks like in DA2, dont forget you are not playing your Inquisitor, its BioWares proprety.

If you want to go by this token, you weren't playing your Warden either.

99% of the robes in DAO looked either incredibly plain or incredibly stupid. 99% of the mage gear in that game, period, looked either boring or stupid.

I think it's because of the physics. The only armors that are vaguely robe-ish (like the free army set) have no physics, and they look awful.

Given how limited the simulation is for the armors we do have, I'm not sure it could handle a full robe.

Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of the jacket (nor the fact that most of the arm upgrades clip through it), but I will admit to not missing the robes at all.

I don't care about clipping or physics, I just want stylish hair and man-dresses :(

I think the real crime is the lack of DA:O mage cowls. Clearly fashion then was far superior. :P

You have to admit it was a better solution than the creamy white turban.

Am I the only one that finds it amusing that for the longest time people have complained about how mage attire has been almost nothing but robes, and now that they've changed mage clothing to something more practical, someone complains about not having robes?

Well presumably it's not the same people. I was really pleased they got cut for example.

What's wrong with robes?

I can understand you wanting some non-robe options, given that you don't want to wear them, but why be enthusiastic about losing an option (an option some of us like)?

Because I actively dislike them, and the options are not unlimited. Then inclusion of robes remove an entire model from use. Aesthetics are an incredibly big driver of my item use.

At least you can go potty in robes easier. The same can't be said for some of the other stuff in the game, which would be a nightmare to get out of. Not to mention that a lot of the clothing is way too skintight which would hamper mobility.

Well, damn. That's at least one playthrough with a mage named "Dresden", then.

Given that robes do appear on NPCs, clearly the model is already in use.

In that regard I do think it was silly for Bioware not to have craftable mats that let you use the NPC models. They do it for the Keeper robes, for example. I don't know why they don't do it for the Circle mage robes.

That said, I would have preferred those to also not be part of DA. :P

This always seems to be the problem when Bioware fixes something people didn't like in their previous game. They'll fix something, and should just stop at that point and move on to something else. Instead, they overdo it, they'll have fixed the problem everyone was complaining about but go even further and butcher other things along with it and create new problems for themselves in the process. As always it's one step forward, two steps back.

Why do they always do this?

Dragon Age was never good with any king of clothing. The only acceptable thing was warrior's armour, rest just sucked and it stayed as a rule in all games.

I think the point i that 1) basically every mage in the game has robes except you and 2) why take away the option?

Its very true Hero.:)

Though I have to admit I didn't like much the previous games robes but mostly because there was little design choice, it was just robes with some small detail changes. This time its fairly similar in that there are maybe 4 different options for mages and all pants and some designs repeated the whole way through the tiers.

For me would be good to see a range of robes and pants especially for such a  huge game, I like some of Viviennes robes and those little asymmetrical tunics that Sera wears. Our companions have unique looks for each design, Id rather they stop that and give us at least ten armour sets to find and collect and enjoy! Who doesn't enjoy getting a new look?

Over my many playthroughs and spending hours in the trenchcoat I really wish for some variety, sadly our modders have their hands tied so I am hoping Bioware will sell us some new designs as dlc.
