On the net rigth now are circulating a set of rumours concerning the whole "Here lies the Abyss" plot path, stating that, in Bioware original plan, it was supposed to be the Hero of Ferelden who would revealed to be Hawke contact in the Grey Wardens instead of Stroud/Alistair/Loghain. It would later be forgotten due to the Warden implying to much of physical/personnal variations, unlike Hawke, and that it would be too difficult to take all these variations into account.
Now, apart from the idea that it would have been awesome to see all of the PCs at once in the fade, it made me thinking about the end of the quest and the sacrifice that has to be made. And I wonder, what if... ?
Yeah, what if, at the end of the quest, YOUR inquisitor was suddenly force to choose who, between YOUR warden and YOUR Hawke, which one would be left behind to fight Nightmare ? Take this choice into a whole new light, isn't it ? Is your choice would have been different ?...
See, in my party, after a short but not hard reflexion, I allowed Loghain to stay behind, partly because I found it rather poetic to finally give him the redemption my warden denied him 10 years ago for his acts in DAO, also because I think that even without a senior with them the orlesian warden could reconstruct themselves, but much more because after all he's been through I wanted to give MY Hawke a chance of living Happily Ever After with Merril.
But if this warden would be MY Cousland ? Damn, I don't know !! Would I had to break Merril's or Leliana's heart ? Would I consider my HoF to be sacrificable due to the joining gaining on him ? Or rather considering he has a lot more political weight than Hawke (he is the Hero of Ferelden, commander of the Grey and personnal friend of King alistair and Queen Anora after all), let the Champion dying himself ?
Now THAT would be a hard choice that could have left me in tears, I confess. What about you, guys ? If it would have been YOURS characters involved in here, what would you have done ?
